What age to like this?

How old would someone be to like this handbag?

I ask because I bought it as a gift for a friend and someone else has said it's too old/young for them (don't want to say which so don't prejudice any answers!)

What age to like this?

65?

That bag has never been my taste, although it would have gone well with my school uniform. It might do for someone going to an 80s themed fancy dress party?

Happygirl79 · Yesterday 18:50

I would say thats a very elderly ladies handbag . Someone over 80?

JayJayj · Yesterday 18:51

Definitely more to do with taste than age. I don’t like it, I’m 42. I know my mum (58) and sisters(41 &27) wouldn’t either. My gran (80s) would not like the pattern.

ReadySaltedSquares · Yesterday 19:28

I love it! Early 40s. Stylish (so I’m told by multiple people from various ages and walks of life) but don’t follow trends.

I do think clothes and accessories should be picked by taste not age though. X

It’s quite quirky and retro so I think it’s more for a particular style and taste than age.

Wow, so many replies, thank you.

It was from a charity shop so not expensive (we have a deal, thats where we buy all our presents for each other, £5 max. The laughter that some gifts have caused is often better than the gifts themselves) I bought it as she has a yellow and blue coat and thought it would match!

Reading your replies, I think the comment about it being too old for her was actually a nice way of saying 'its bloody hideous' 😂

I will give it to her as we're always honest if we don't like things and see what she thinks and report back.

Funnily enough I was going to say it would be hard to match up with anything and plain would be better. Now you've said that, it changes it. I don't particularly like it and not sure about the age maybe 40s onwards but with it matching a coat it might not matter. It now sounds a thoughtful gift.

70+ to answer what you asked (I'm 58 and it looks a bit "safe/classic for me) but like so many have said, it's more a taste/personal style thing than an age thing.

spongebunnyfatpants · Yesterday 21:26

Im 51 and im sorry but its not a nice looking bag. I wouldn't want it at any age.

OneTake · Yesterday 21:34

70-80

TwoFastHorses · Yesterday 22:02

I’m 62 and wouldn’t use that bag. Sorry, I think it’s hideous. The colours are not nice and it’s a very dated style. I can’t think of anyone I know from a wide selection of ages (older and younger) who would choose this bag.

FiveEightNine · Yesterday 22:23

I liked this style when I was about 18 (alternative/boho) , but I had many requirements about practicality - too close safely, have inner pocket and be well made enough to bear everything I forced into it.

MaggieBsBoat · Today 06:40

I’m 53 and quite like it, but I can guarantee my 18 year old DD would also like it. Age is not relevant I think.

Dancingintherain09 · Today 07:52

Im 47 and I wouldn't. My DD23 said no so did my DM 68 so I think bits more a taste issue.
Depends if its your friends style

MrsJeanLuc · Today 07:55

Oh dear!

It's VERY like my mum's bag. She's 98.

I don't hate it: I wouldn't buy, it but if someone gave it to me I would probably use it: I'm in my late 60s.

I can guarantee that my daughter, who is 30, would think it hideous 😁

Mcoco · Today 08:43

Its very old fashioned. I remember seeing this style back in the late 70s possibly? But it could suit someone 60 plus.

Moveoverdarlin · Today 08:58

My Mum is 80 and wouldn’t wear that.

TheMauveBeaker · Today 09:00

I don’t think it’s an age thing, it’s a taste thing. I would never use it (age 60).
I wouldn’t have used at any age though, because I don’t like it, and would never have liked it, even in the 80s, which is what it reminds me of.

You feel being over 60 would incline one to want a cheap, old fashioned, poorly made and garish bag?

Right …

Did you mean to be so rude?
