How old would someone be to like this handbag?

I ask because I bought it as a gift for a friend and someone else has said it's too old/young for them (don't want to say which so don't prejudice any answers!)

What age to like this?

It’s not to my taste ( it’s horrible) I’m 50s, I can’t image DD or her friends liking it. I’d say the elderly might like it but only because they’d had it since 1981.

BarbaraUsher · 26/10/2026 15:08

And yellow is a bold colour for a handbag. It wouldn’t go with many outfits.

Undones · 26/10/2026 15:09

It looks nice but not for me im a backpack person.

parsleydog · 26/10/2026 15:10

I can’t believe other people don’t like this bag! I love it and would have loved it when in my 20s and 30s too (sadly am now middle aged)

Nayone · 26/10/2026 15:11

i don't know anyone personally who would use that bag and i'm considering all ages. it's an unusual style with the pattern i'm afraid. not many women would use it IMO

Freda69 · 26/10/2026 15:17

I’m an old lady but I don’t like it at all. Nothing to do with age - I like leather cross body bags. The yellow is a real turn off.

mysoddenbananabread · 26/10/2026 15:22

This shows up as a free bag on Nextdoor.co.uk - is this where you got it from ? Honestly it's horrible but might have been fashionable in the 1960s.

ToadRage · 26/10/2026 14:43

Not for me. It looks like an old lady bag.

I'm 74 and I don't like it.

mysoddenbananabread · 26/10/2026 15:24

And on Gumtree

What age to like this?
Hyroplate · 26/10/2026 15:26

It's the sort of thing that would look old fashioned on me but could look really good on an edgy yonger person. So, I think for me it would be both too young and too old!

CatAsstrophe · 26/10/2026 15:28

ToadRage · 26/10/2026 14:43

Not for me. It looks like an old lady bag.

What's an old lady bag?

TheLastSilverSaint · 26/10/2026 15:28

A young person might like it only if they were into ironic vintage/retro looks.

Otherwise I think it’s very much skewed to an older demographic. Of course that doesn’t mean all older women would like it - my mum wouldn’t and nor would I! But it definitely reads as older in terms of style.

Uppitywoman · 26/10/2026 15:28

I'm 62 and would never use a bag like that. Not my taste or style at all. I honestly don't know anyone who would. I agree with other PP's who say it's more of a taste thing than an age thing, to be honest.

Daffodilsinthespring · 26/10/2026 15:29

I’d say over 80s. I’m 58 and dd 30 and we wouldn’t use it

koffielepeltje · 26/10/2026 15:31

What does "an old lady bag" look like, anyway?

MellowSubmarine · 26/10/2026 15:31

I’d be extremely surprised if the issue was someone told you it was too young for someone.

MsAlignement · 26/10/2026 15:37

I was going to ask if you’d bought it pre-owned, @Blues321. To me it looks …relatively inexpensive, (the very cursory strap and the quality of the materials,) and also, as others have mentioned, rather dated, so it wouldn’t appeal to me at any age.

But all this seems harsh, when you presumably bought it with good intentions?

Why?

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 26/10/2026 15:48

I suspect my very trendy 19 year old would love it. I’m not keen, but I am very unstylish.

Floisme · 26/10/2026 15:54

Theresmagicwheretheflowersgrow · 26/10/2026 15:01

Well this old lady doesn't like it at all I'm afraid Hmm

You can't be an old lady then. Didn't you know we all dress alike?

Charlenedickens · 26/10/2026 15:59

It’s a very niche taste, I’m 57 and wouldn’t use it snd my daughter is late 20s and neither would she, my grandmothers wouldn’t have worn it either,

it looks inexpensive and , I’m sorry I don’t like it at all, the shape design etc is very dated,

I would recommend buying something neutral when it’s something the person has to effectively have visible on themselves,

but that would be a charity job for me, I’d suggest the person saying it’s too young or old is being kind, what they mean is it’s bad,

HoldMyWine · 26/10/2026 16:00

I’m 55 it’s not for me

Happyjoe · 26/10/2026 16:00

It looks like it's come from the 80's - nothing wrong with that per se, fashion comes around. Not sure about age, just personal taste? I always steer well clear of buying any items such as this, clothing or whatever for friends because so easy not to get it right.

notantordec · 26/10/2026 16:03

It’s the ugliest bag I have seen today so no age
