What do you wear under jumpers?

I have got lots of different styles of jumper some loose and some fitted, but it doesn’t always feel right to wear them with nothing underneath. But if I wear a T-shirt, it feels too bulky.

What do people wear underneath their jumpers?

Depending on what I'm doing, where I'll be doing it, and the thickness of the jumper I'll wear either a vest, tshirt or long sleeved tshirt. Usually a tshirt as my shoulders often get cold and achy (rheumatoid arthritis), and then I can take the jumper off if I get too warm (perimenopausal). I'd never go with nothing underneath.

I don't wear jumpers as an extra layer. I wear them as a top. Have I been wearing jumpers wrong all my life 😂

What if you get too hot though? Then you're stuck in the jumper as you've got nothing underneath?

BoogieWonder · Yesterday 20:13

I wear t-shirts and long sleeved tops.

i do wear vest tops underneath jumpers. I would usually layer with a cardigan, not a jumper though.

I only wear Jumpers if it's really cold.

I'm another one who sees jumpers as the extra layer I put on when it gets cold. So, I'm currently wearing a thin cashmere jumper, and underneath I am wearing a vest and a thin long sleeve shirt. I am, quite frankly, cold, even wearing 3 layers! When it gets really cold, I have any number of thermal long sleeved vests and heat tech tops, and thicker, warmer jumpers. Sometimes, i wear a thin jumper underneath a thick jumper. Between the months of October and April I never wear less than 3 layers.

All these people only wearing a jumper, you must heat your houses very well.

A thin vest/camisole, usually Uniqlo Heat Tech. Or a long sleeved t-shirt/henley top.

Ladyymuck · Yesterday 20:19

Vest tops. Bought a few body invisible cool comfort vests from M&S and they are brilliant for wearing under jumpers, blouses, etc.

HoobleDooble · Yesterday 20:20

T shirt as I wouldn't want to inflict my impressive flying squirrel arms on everyone if I got too warm and had to remove my jumper.

mynameiscalypso · Yesterday 20:20

I wear uniqlo or M&S thin thermal long sleeved t shirts generally. If it’s a bit milder, I wear a white t shirt. Jumpers are an extra layer to me and I want to wash them as little as possible so always wear something underneath.

Gettingbysomehow · Yesterday 20:21

I wear very thin and cheap t shirts I get off tik tok shop in bulk mainly because I dont want to keep washing my jumpers every 5 minutes. It makes them last much longer before they need a wash.

SuitcaseAndSecrets · Yesterday 20:21

Just a snag bra.. never thought about wearing anything under a jumper.. l don't wear anything under blouses/ shirts etc just my bra..

A vest - my favourite are from new look black cotton scoop neck vests. Sometimes a t-shirt, I have a couple of v-neck t-shirts from Primark that work well without being bulky. When it gets very cold I wear both a vest and t-shirt.

Same. It’s a tshirt or a jumper. Not both.

BustPipes · Yesterday 20:24

Vest top - used to be from M&S, but the scoop necked ones went weirdly high neck (I wear v neck jumpers) and weirdly long, so now I get them from Next. Prefer a really thin material and tight fit. I have about 10 vest tops, and about six jumpers.

It will horrify everyone on Mumsnet, but my jumpers are acrylic, and I wear the vest tops once and the jumpers twice before washing. It will horrify everyone on S&B, but I have two jumpers each in grey and green and black and one in navy. (I have just figured out I have seven jumpers.)

Dressing for work is super easy!

(I also have emergency long sleeve vest tops and two fluffier jumpers.)

KittyMcKitty · Yesterday 20:24

For work (secondary school) Uniqlo heat tech and blouse - no heating on and it’s very cold!

Fgfgfg · Yesterday 20:27

A bra.

PurpleLovecats · Yesterday 20:28

I just realised reading this thread, I don’t actually own a single jumper!

Depends on the temperature. Where i live, if it's cold enough for a jumper, it's probably too cold for just a jumper.

AutumnMuse · Yesterday 20:29

Long sleeve top or t-shirt.

viques · Yesterday 20:30

Long sleeved thermals from Uniqlo.

Lessisbest · Yesterday 20:30

T shirt, so my armpits don't touch the jumper. I'm not very smelly in the first place, and this means my jumpers can go ages between washes.

LowlandLucky · Yesterday 20:33

A bra.

SwedishEdith · Yesterday 20:35

I cannot imagine wearing a Shetland wool jumper over just a bra. For all jumpers, it's always a long or short sleeved top/t shirt underneath. Otherwise, you'd only get one or two wears out of jumper before it needs washing. Who could be bothered washing them that often?

This! Always a layer underneath. Usually a heattech long-sleeved layer, but could be any sort of t shirt. Not a vest, because I don’t want my bare armpits touching a jumper. Washing jumpers too often means they won’t last as well.

TheeNotoriousPIG · Yesterday 20:41

I usually wear blouses under jumpers, because I like the smart/casual look... and most of the necklines of my t-shirts come above the collar of my jumpers. I avoid anything lower-cut because of stress rashes that flare up unexpectedly, and attract unwanted attention.
