what do we think about TU clothing?

Not somewhere I usually look as we don't have a big Sainsbury's near here with a clothing section, just the little convenience stores.

Saw they had a sale on though and ordered a few things and I'm SO impressed. Ordered this dress https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc148498351 which admittedly is not the most fashion forward item on the planet but I was looking for a comfortable dress for holidays and smart-casual occasions. It's such good quality - really thick, 100% cotton and has pockets! £7.80 absolute bargain. Also bought a grey cardigan/vest thing which is very thick and will keep me cosy in winter.

So did I just hit it lucky or is the general quality of TU better than Asda, Tesco etc?

Two of my children have worked at Waitrose at 16, but I think they need to have completed y11.

Thanks. Unfortunately we don't have a Waitrose anywhere near us.
She's just completed her GCSEs and studying towards her A levels. It just seems so difficult these days...😒

I love TU. I order stuff online and pick
it up from the Argos part of our local Sainsbury’s. I’ve always been pleased with their items. And I don’t think they’re badly priced too. I bought some joggers from there for my son, called Activ. They’re the best joggers I’ve ever bought him. They’re made from a beautiful material that doesn’t bobble, washes beautifully and rarerly needs ironing.

She's 16. I was scouring individual companies websites for her once she left school, and it was literally up for a day, that's how high demand is. They took 4 young people on, she started in August.
Because her college course isn't every day, she's got a bit more flexibility, I think that helped. She does 12 hours a week, and it pays well.

Ah, thanks. Yes I think this is the problem
Things are not up for long and we just keep missing out. I mourn the days you could just walk in with your CV and a cover letter 😢

It really is. My 18 year old has struggled too but now has a job at Tesco. My daughter is at uni and she really struggled too. Applied for so many jobs, she now works at one stop.

my 15 year old is also desperate but doesn’t have a chance.

i often compliment people on their outfits to find they have brought them from TU

HoraceCope · Yesterday 09:28

when dm was in hospital i picked up nighties from sainsbury's for her, she loves them, really good quality

Thank you :) I guess we just have to keep trying (and be quick on the uptake). It's difficult when you're busy yourself ...

They are always worth a look, I like their non wired bras and jeans.

Yes my favourite(now on its last legs) soft bra was from sainsburys. Looked in vain for it appearing again. Got a lovely jacket/cardigan last winter, its really thick and sturdy but washes a treat. DH likes their clothes too(especially in the sales) he got a pair of jeans with a bit of stretch in which are great. Its 4 seasons ago and he is still convinced they will magically reappear.

I love TU, bought a summer navy dress with white polka dots that has had loads of wear to the office all summer and so many compliments. It cost £12 in a 25% off day. Also pyjamas, jeans (reasonably priced and fit well), tops, swimming costumes. It cheers me up getting good cheap clothes with my weekly shop.

CatSquirrelDuck · Yesterday 09:59

You can do well with Tu if you're careful and look at the material. Last week I ordered a couple of their very soft, knit hoodies, great for this time of year.

They can have surprisingly nice things, and their black maxi kilt last year was great. Certainly better than the other supermarkets!

I don’t often go to Sainsbury’s as it’s miles from me, but more often than not something from Tu comes home with me when I do.

I have that kilt skirt and it’s excellent. This year they have an orange/navy/brown checked kilt that is even nicer. Very long, lined and lovely heavy fabric. Really well made for I think about £28! Would recommend.

Aggieforme · Yesterday 10:16

Apologies I see anon22anon has already recommended the kilt.

No but I should be!!!

My niece works for Sainsbury's but she manages one of those little convenience branches with a petrol station.

You seriously should be 🤣
I'm sure Sainsbury's has been given a significant boost in profits since your post!

I like TU but can rarely get my size in store, some sizes seem to sell out really fast.

lazyarse123 · Yesterday 11:25

I like it too. I struggle because I am a 22/24 but I got a long red checked sundress from there last year and a short sleeved white blouse which I wore together and dh asked if he should change into something smarter as I looked lovely and dressed up. Nearly fainted that never happens.

I got 5 White Stuff tops in the sale recently - knockdown prices & far cheaper than M&S, Amazon & W.S. itself were selling them.

Thank you, Aggieforme. Tempting, but I recently scored a genuine wool tartan kilt from Vinted - fully maxi (requires boots) for £20 (!) to add to my collection. Can’t justify another one, however nice.

I do think the plain black is so wearable though - I bet I’ll wear it more than the genuine tartans I own this winter..

BobbinThreadbare123 · Yesterday 12:48

I get a lot of TU stuff for work. I used to live near a Sainsbury's but now I order to my nearby Argos. I do find some of the colours and patterns that they do weird, but I have a corporate goth/alt style so I want black things. Having said that, I bought a short, lined, purple tartan kilt skirt recently and I love it.

I am still wearing a black TU corduroy jacket I got for £5.60 a decade ago.

The customer toilets in our Sainsbury's is absolutely disgusting. You would be trailing the clothes in urine as you tried to get into them.

They closed their toilets in our local branch recently as, despite regular (ish) cleaning, people were treating them appallingly and they were always disgusting.

This must be a Sains policy!
Ours are still open and I have used them to try clothes on (being careful not to touch the floor). They are often closed and they absolutely stink of piss and nappy/sanitary bins, which are clearly rarely emptied.

Redruby2020 · Yesterday 13:08

I think they have some okay bits. Buy things like staple black tapered pull on pants from there, last pair lasted ages, and recently bought some more. Was impressed in the summer hols to find their pack of school trousers 2 pack for £9, Asda’s were £10.
Ours used to do more shoes I thought, but ladies shoes it seems to have cut down.

I was also lucky one Christmas/New Year trying to find bits last minute, I got a pair of leather look trousers in the sale that I ended up wearing out.

FlorenceLyons · Yesterday 13:14

I bought these jeans from Tu a couple of weeks ago. Great shape and slightly unusual design.

I got the teal version of this changing robe last year and my goodness is it a warm cosy thing to wear. Size all the way down because it’s massive and it makes an excellent winter coat.

Wickedwhiskers · Yesterday 13:41

I like it but Im old - mostly get knitwear and casual things to mix with more expensive brands..sizing seems to have got bigger over the last couple of years though with sleeves that are way too long.
