what do we think about TU clothing?

Not somewhere I usually look as we don't have a big Sainsbury's near here with a clothing section, just the little convenience stores.

Saw they had a sale on though and ordered a few things and I'm SO impressed. Ordered this dress https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc148498351 which admittedly is not the most fashion forward item on the planet but I was looking for a comfortable dress for holidays and smart-casual occasions. It's such good quality - really thick, 100% cotton and has pockets! £7.80 absolute bargain. Also bought a grey cardigan/vest thing which is very thick and will keep me cosy in winter.

So did I just hit it lucky or is the general quality of TU better than Asda, Tesco etc?

I used to love Sainsbury’s TU clothes and still do - but it don’t live as close to one that does clothing now as I used to. I find their sizing perfect and consistent, which I don’t find with Tesco F&F which I now live closer to - but I do like F&F clothes. I always liked Sainsbury’s colours and prints and the quality is good, eg, their jeans and knits - I still have and wear stuff I bought from there 15 years ago! I don’t like how many supermarkets don’t have changing rooms anymore, especially F&F whose sizes I find unreliable and not as well proportioned as Sainsbury’s, so I end up having to return stuff which can be a pain.

Love TU clothing, and still wear ‘the marmite’ dress discussed on mn in great length a few years ago (no, it hasn’t got marmite on it, but a retro, curtain-material pattern). Great underwear and good for basics. Usually good for seeing what’s this years fashion trends are also.

i wear around the house but wouldnt wear out

tealpanda49 · 24/10/2026 20:23

Love their clothes and I'll be buying this dress, so thanks OP! They're great for kids stiff like cotton pyjamas and socks too

DoneAndNotDusted · 24/10/2026 20:38

I've bought a few things, either in the store or online to collect. A few real bargains too eg. a pair of jeans reduced to less than a fiver - the sales are really worth looking at! I'd prefer more natural fibres though. It's not far to Sainsbury's for me, so collecting/returning things isn't a problem.
I find their stuff tends to come up big.

bababamama · 24/10/2026 20:40

Tu is definitely the best of the bunch when it comes to supermarket clothes though they all can have good pieces.

FofB · 24/10/2026 20:57

Yep. Order it in, delivered to my local Argos, try it all on and if any issues, take it back for a super fast refund.

All my work clothes/tops come from Tu and they last for ages.

I agreed with the posters who say they should have kept the changing rooms open though- used to take the kids up during the 20% sale and get everything they needed.

Back21970 · 24/10/2026 21:08

My nearest one that does the clothing is a bit of a trek but any time I go I generally buy something - got a lovely bang on trend checked dress last month for £27.

I think it’s better than the other supermarkets and if mine was local I’d definitely buy more - agree the lack of changing rooms is annoying though.

Some weird clothes ATM in our local Sainsbury’s. I’ve bought tops, hoodies, sweaters, cardigans, swimsuits, a coat and other bits over the last few years, but apart from undies and nightwear, I’ve found nothing that I fancy recently. Like M&S they seem to be aiming at younger shoppers. I want winter sweaters with long sleeves. I don’t want bits of glitter on my cardigan, or nylon lace on the bottom of a jumper. And I really don’t want trousers so wide that I could make two skirts out of the legs.

ArthurChristmas22 · 24/10/2026 22:00

I used to buy a lot but then had some real issues with the quality after washing.

However i popped in today and have bought a new top which was a total steel at £14 and have decided to give them another go! Watching to see what people recommend.

hby9628 · 24/10/2026 22:03

Love sainsburys tu. Their jeans are the best.

tiptoptoemaytoe · 24/10/2026 22:03

I’m a big fan for children’s clothes- they wash and last well. I also rate their bras highly- so comfy!

Empress13 · 24/10/2026 22:15

They have some nice things good quality too. Their PJ’s are some of the nicest around. With the rising cost of clothing their prices aren’t too bad

I like it but it's a shame they closed the fitting rooms. I hate the faff of buying, taking home to try and then return for a different size or refund. I'm not a regular supermarket shopper and not loyal to any of them.

I agree, they closed them during covid (for obvious reasons) but assumed they would have opened them again.
Another cost cutting reason I suppose as one of the staff had to manage them😏

I got married in a suit from Tu! Navy velvet.
I've got a pair of tan real leather knee high boots that are at least 10 years old, had them heeled and resoled last year. I think they were less than ten pounds in a sale.

Busybeemumm · 24/10/2026 22:43

The best of the supermarket clothing choices esp the jeans. Kids clothes are great as well. I've had a few bargains.

Sizing however is inconsistent - some too large or too long.

I'm OBSESSED. I usually only shop at La Coqueta, Pepa & Co, Jacadi, Self Portrait, Boinpoint, etc. Was so obsessed we all these new "tu" cardigans, shoes, pajamas etc and was wondering who was gifting them all to us as so beautiful. Found out nanny was buying clothes at Sainsbury's. Not a snob. They're amazing. Also M&S's boys linen trousers are made at same factory as Pepa & Co. I was gutted when my son sized out of Pepa around 8 because tall. The woman in the shop who knew me took pity and told me they're basically the same but go up to older ages.

ExOptimist · 24/10/2026 22:52

A new big Sainsbury's opened near me about a year ago and I now do all my supermarket shopping from there. I've had some great clothes from there and have received compliments on them. This summer I bought a long brown linen shirt dress, linen culottes, 2 pure linen shirts, few pairs patterned wide trousers, and my best bargain, complimented on by my Toast and Cos living sister, a dark denim shirt in the sale for £5.

As well as the t-shirt dress I linked I also ordered a long skirt - says its midaxi but as i'm a short arse it's pretty long, seersucker sort of material with a check pattern, will be great for winter with boots and tights, think that was £5.40. Also ordered a grey knitted sleevless cardi with cables up the front for when I'm fancying myself as Claud in the traitors.

I think also of course you're not going to like everything. I don't think there's one single shop I could walk into and love everything. I don't really look at the kids' stuff any more as mine are all grown up. DH rates their t-shirts and pyjamas.

I have had great jeans from TU and it has been my default place to get underwear for the last ten years, not M&S. Also had some pewter ankle boots that I absolutely wore to death.

Tulipvase · 24/10/2026 23:08

I have that in black. It’s not quite the right length for me but I kept it.

I normally buy a lot from TU but at the moment, it’s shit.

We have an Argos close by and I order stuff click and collect - the returns process is very quick and easy. Lots of other shops could learn from them.

TheFriendlyCabbage · 24/10/2026 23:12

They are going down the Instagrammers route now. The quality has gone down in favour of more gimmicky stuff. When I look in there there were invariably a few bits I liked (and have kept for years) but now I look and leave empty handed.
