Oh this is interesting. Maybe I’ll forgo the advent and just get a selection of my most desired treats

Apparently the box is re-useable (not that I need to store any more empty advents, I could probably start a museum) - but if it’s a nice size for foodie treats it could be a bit of an investment for future years?

GrainoftuthSalt · 20/09/2026 05:38

IDontKnowWhatYouMean · 19/09/2026 22:45

The Β£100 M&S food advent only contains Β£105 of products (AI actually estimated it as less than that and said I’d be paying an extra premium for the daily advent experience).

So why do I still want it?
Maybe it’s worth the premium not to have to find somewhere to store more beauty products 🀣

I was going to buy the fortnum and Mason feasting calendar. But I added up the value and it was approx something like Β£40 more to buy the advent vs individually - though some of the sizes in the calendar don't exist to purchase, so worked cost out per grams/ml etc.

Decided to just make a DIY one with bits I know i will love.

Insuffishcakes · 20/09/2026 08:07

The Degusta box is only Β£40, worth 60, apparently, so maybe a better option, and less effort. Not tried it yet but some people on MN recommended it

ETA actually 34 with first time buyer discount

MrsOliveAnt · 20/09/2026 08:41

What do people think the tipping point is for buying what you want from a BAC on vinted/ebay vs just buying the calendar? Β£150
worth of a
Β£275 BAC? I’m trying to do my calculations for the space nk one!

hattie43 · 20/09/2026 08:49

More and more of these posts are about the financial spin of the calendars, what can I keep what can I sell , how much can I sell it for , where can I sell it . For me it’s distracting from the enjoyment of a calendar, I choose a calendar based on what I like and will use , it’s as simple as that . It’s starting to feel like an online car boot sale .

In my beauty maths and because I’m a very good girl I only buy a BAC if the products I want to try or know I already love at least cover the cost of BAC at the full retail cost. This means all the other stuff that I’m not soo bothered about are a bonus and I’m happily try and often end up loving.

No, I definitely wouldn't buy a calendar if I only wanted Β£150 worth of it. For me to buy it, I have to want at least the cost of the advent calendar. Selling on vinted is hard work now, stuff doesn't fly off the shelves like it did last year and the offers for stuff are ridiculously low. There's spacenk stuff on vinted, have a look and see if you can pick up the things you're wanting.

Think I will do that instead! I just keep thinking β€œoh but for only Β£100 more I’ll get all this extra stuff” but it doesn’t matter if I won’t actually use/don’t want most of it!

Yeah, you could spend that money on stuff you do want. Hopefully you can get what you want on vinted for half the £150 worth 🀞🏻

MrsBnow12 · 20/09/2026 09:17

My rule is 50% of the items or value of the total advent, in certain instances I will reduce to 30% if I know I will end up paying a premium for the items I want.
I sell the majority of my left over items on the not for profit FB groups so I get my items at the proportionate value. I do also consider the items I know won’t sell and then factor this into whether I will buy it or not.

MandyAndLola · 20/09/2026 09:22

I am a lurker on this thread since last year. I’m here primarily for the beauty chat, and to hear others thoughts on the best products/calendars (I’ve gone for Elle and Liberty this year, and the opinions here certainly contributed to my decision making so thank you to you all ❀️) but I also enjoy hearing the financial spin. The calendars are an investment and the financial aspect definitely helps with decision making as it impacts the perceived value.

Donsyb · 20/09/2026 09:27

IDontHateRainbows · 19/09/2026 22:25

The worst is the bobbi brown ones
..and they are not cheap.

I prefer the lisa eldridge brush on style luquid eyeshadows now.

I had a bobbi brown one that was in a free gift, that one was ok. Thankfully the Laura Mercier one was a set of two mini eyeshadows, so not horrifically expensive. But I also find they’re not very pigmented.

That’s probably because some of them are very expensive, and if people don’t want half the products it’s not worth it unless they sell some of them. It’s different if you’re paying say, less than Β£100, for a bunch of stuff you might not be bothered by, but when you’re talking Β£300+, the cost is a big factor for many. And rather than waste products you don’t want, it throws them away, it’s better to sell them (for the seller and the environment).

I'll keep and try everything in my calendars but that's because I don't have a huge stash of products and I haven't tried many of the things in the calendars yet. I think most people on the thread do have a huge stash of products already or have tried things and know they're not for them. No calendar is going to be 100% perfect for you so I don't mind people discussing the things they will sell on. Better that someone else gets a bargain than it's wasted I think.

Agreed. Even if just buying only one it's hard to find an advent where you would use everything, so working out whether the overall cost to you is worth being stuck with lash serum and surplus eyelash curlers is a factor.

There's quite a few this year that have tempted me but I've walked away from just because I don't want to be left with with loads of extra stuff to deal with for the sake of 2 or 3 'star' items (looking at you Glossybox).

I'm doing an advent for DS so quite a bit of the hair, body and skincare stuff is going in his DIY one.

keepincool · 20/09/2026 09:35

It looks like the "Β£300" Skin Cycles DNA Repair Cream will be included in the LiB Advent (from an email, I can't find much more online). I tried it last night and it felt a bit sticky for a while, but my skin feels soft this morning.

I wonder how much the repair cream will go for on Vinted? πŸ€”

(...I'm joking @hattie43 )

I feel similar, selling on vinted isn’t as easy as it was, so I’m only buying things that I really want, hence blt decided yet !

Extra points CB today.

itbeginsnow · 20/09/2026 09:39

On the topic of expiring products, what is a reasonable resolution? Asking as my very luxe calendar last year had a product with an expiry of Feb 2026. I have mailed customer service since, but a replacement doesn’t seem to be an option.

Feeling sad about it as my calendar shine fades away when early checking is needed!

SheilaFentiman · 20/09/2026 09:43

@hattie43 I bought a 7 cosmetics calendar for about Β£30 because I’m happy at that price to just be surprised by the every day door. But I would feel pretty gutted to spend 5-10x that and not love most of it!

XiCi · 20/09/2026 09:48

Donsyb · 19/09/2026 21:28

How did you get the coupon?

The coupons are for new TIlTok users or new TikTok shop users so its not a discount on Glossybox but a generic code that some people randomly get. People getting it for Β£65 are getting a huge bargain. From memory there are a few boxes worth that as standalones and I think its the best by far of the Β£100ish calendars of Look Fantastic, Next, M&S etc

AI is telling me JL FAC is available for pre order for members tomorrow so im really hoping that's right and the shop assistant had just got it wrong. The Selfridges box sounds amazing.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/09/2026 09:51

If i like more than about 1/3 of the contents I will buy and sell the rest. I'm an established ebay pro seller tho so I know what I'm doing and have a good rep/ many followers which helps shift stuff.

Thanks for posting this!! It looks really tempting for some reason and I’d nearly convinced myself to buy. Almost like a β€œyou must eat this snack” every day πŸ˜‚

I’ll stick with just getting the Christmas bits I actually want in store!

MiaN · 20/09/2026 10:06

Still here still no advent. Any word on selfridges fragrance?

I’ll not miss the low offers. What annoys me most (sorry if anyone does this!) is people who just message an offer, like they just say β€œ10?” All it tells me is they’ve run out of offers to send as they’re constantly lowballing. Or one I got the other day that offered 60% of the listed price, then came back with a tiny bit more and said β€œbest offer take it or leave it”. I left it πŸ˜„

I had one person on eBay once sending me an offer of Β£70 on a Β£200 item, then asked if I’d move it to Vinted as it was better for her cost wise…of course I will, CF. πŸ™„ I just ignore offers rather than decline, can’t be bothered with people who want a Β£20 item for Β£7.50.

Yes more frustrating for the cheeky lowballer to be ignored.it has seeped on to ebay now you get people offering cheeky prices which was never so much the case previously.
