I hate this manicure

I really hate this manicure. It's builder gel, I go every 2-3 weeks. It's so thick and lumpy. I did ask for extra short. I have been going here at least 15 years, same woman. I really like her, should I say something?

BTW has anyone ever found a place that does builder gel that doesn't wreck your nails? I love the look (not yours OP, sorry!) but the filing ruins my real nails and I have just left them alone for six months to recover.

I got BIAB at a salon a few times and didn’t realise they were really brutal when removing etc. My were completely trashed and took ages to recover. I now go to a much better salon and nails are completely fine despite having it done loads of times. They won’t do infills and also remove it very gently. I didn’t realise the other place was so bad until I went to the new place.

Those of you who are complaining about damage i need to tell you about my revelation 😆
I was getting Biab and loved the results but three issues with it:

  • expensive
  • maintenance (every month get it either taken off or reapplied)
  • damage: i used to sit there absolutely wincing as they sanded or drilled or whatever the hell it is they do to remove the BIAB. Not because it was painful but just it sets my teeth on edge and feels horrible

I decided to investigate press on nails - not the cheap shit ones you get on Amazon or Boots but the premium ones you get from specialists.
I love them. I have 3 sets and cycle between the 3. I dont use their shitty press on stickers, I use nail glue, and whenever I want to take them off its a case of soaking my fingers in hot oily water and prising them off gently. Then I clean and store the nails and use them again some other time.
They look incredible and they also give me the freedom to take the fuckers off whenever I see fit rather thab rely on a salon.
Just thought Id share because I always thought my options were BIAB, my own shit nails, or crappy mass market press ons. Actually you can get some beautiful press ons that last and last

My goodness, they look like my nails when I first starting doing my own BIAB! However, I am now a pro and have mastered it ;) Just apply very very thin coats, hold nails upside down for a few seconds and then cure. Saves a lot of time and money doing it yourself and the nails come off very easy. I can just pull them off in the shower - no damage at all! Unlike gel which is a bugger to remove.

OverpricedCupcake · 13/09/2026 18:53

I buy gel remover, you just paint it on and the gel bubbles and softens and can be gently removed with no nail damage.
Great stuff.

What did she say OP?

She fixed them for free. Then I went back a few days later and had it removed. Nails are quite sore now but condition is not bad.

Brilliant OP. At least she didn't try to blame you as some do.
I had to replace mine after 1 day and was told I need to be more careful with new nails and I 🤔 😅.
