@IlovePond and others, do you do anything to prep your eyelids before using shadow sticks? The few I’ve tried in the past have not taken well or lasted well at all

@Thelifeofawife - I don’t get on with eyelid primer, I just swipe the sticks on.

I really Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier - they last well on me. Elf are ok, (I love their eye pencils), but I bought the wrong colour for the eyeshadow stick but it lasts ok.

Sometimes I swipe a stick all over the lid, then shade with a bit of HG eyeshadow powder.

@TheSunIsAlwaysThere - I also recommend downloading the ELF app - they have lots of special offers and freebies. It can be a cheaper way to experiment with colours. For example, my eye pencil was £4 and I LOVE it!

@IlovePond @Thelifeofawife the Ilia sticks are my favourites.

My 12 year old granddaughter would love a beauty calendar rather than chocolate.

Are there any suitable for young skins? Or maybe nail varnishes or somesuch?

If you visit the Trinny London site that will help you work out whether you’re cool toned or warm toned which is a good start.

sorry to hear your kids are away. It’s tough but try reminding yourself (as I do, sometimes but not always successfully) than you’ve done a good job in giving them the confidence to go travelling x

Why don’t you book in for a makeover somewhere like Space NK or your local department store and they’ll try things out for you?

I was possibly going to purchase if they did. If not, I'll just have to buy another to take its place👀 I regret not getting the JL FAC now.

I always use eyeshadow primer due to my very oily skin, have used Urban Decay for years, works a treat.

Maybe book in for an online consultation with Trinny then. I’m not sure how much it’s now - it was £25 when I did it - but then that gets taken off what you purchase. They will tell you your tones etc and they’re ‘Match to me’ is really accurate - it only give you colours that suit you. Once you know that, you can look at similar colours with other brands.

I booked myself in with a local makeup artist who did a 121 session with me, I researched before and made sure she did the type of looks I wanted. It was £120 but the best money I have soent as saved me lots in the long run with buying unsuitable shades
