My DH wants to buy a couple of hoodies. Now his sons don't wear them anymore two in their forties youngest mid twenties. DH is 76 I'm trying to talk him out of it. Am I out of touch?

He won't hurt in a hoody. Just don't let him wear a onesie.

No - he was totally rocking it and very happy with himself. Mum (76) was pleased to be seen with him too!

I hate hoodies so I admit I'd be trying to steer him towards something else. Fortunately my DH aged almost 65 hates them too.

But if he likes them there's not much you can do to stop him, really just don't be seen out with him wearing one

I hate hoodies too. On all ages. What is the point of them?

SquirrelGG · 21/08/2026 01:31

Why shouldn't he wear a hoodie? I'm 67 and wear them all the time. I didn't realise there was an age limit Confused

You might as well ask what is the point of any of the clothing we wear. Do you think we should all be issued with a uniform and not deviate from it?

My dad wore hoodies right up until he died at 98. Mainly the ones with full front zip . They look smart if quality and nice colours .

Comfort and warmth…what’s the point of the vast majority of clothing 🤦‍♀️

It's the hood - unless you want to go shop lifting or similar, what is the point of the hood?

PhaedraTwo · 21/08/2026 05:15

Comfort and warmth doesn't mean clothes have to be ugly and dull. To answer the OP's question there's no age limit on them - they will be no worse on her husband as they are on anyone else. It's the hood part I really dislike.

In my case I find the hood is warm around my neck in the winter. What a weird remark, it's just a hood. I have expensive merino jackets with hoods, do shoplifters wear them? Confused

Some very old fashioned people on this thread.

No one is forcing you to wear one.

This is about more than just the hoodie. I’m guessing he’s afraid of getting old and sick given your last post and has double standards with the way you dress in the way he berates you for it. Wear what you like OP but I think you need to address what’s really going on in your marriage

Yello24 · 21/08/2026 05:59

My Dad is 85 and still does regular 10 mile hikes over the cliffs where he lives. His standard uniform is walking trousers with a zip up fleece/hoodie. That’s for every day shopping and pottering and gardening too.
So much more practical than a wool jumper. It’s just normal daily wear.

Wadsworthy · 21/08/2026 06:01

Of course it’s ok if he wants to wear a hoodie.

To keep your head warm? Same as a hat.

Old fashioned nope. Not for myself anyway. I think I should have asked my sons rather than Mumsnet. Never mind.

My DH is alsoin his 70's. Nothing wrong with a hoodie. I like the look better than crew necks or turtlenecks.

madaboutpurple · 21/08/2026 13:12

I am a woman in my late 60's and wear a leather jacket when I can and I get a lot of compliments. I take no notice of age appropriate clothes. I reckon if your Dh wants certain clothes then why not.

MildlyMoist · 21/08/2026 13:16

My dad is the same age and looks comfy and appropriate in his hoodies and narrow joggers or jeans. He also has a waxed moustache and very groomed beard and a modern haircut.

Men of 76 were teens in the 1960s, the first generation to wear jeans, Mods, scooter riders, long hair pioneers. Of course they’d go for hoodies and leisure wear now. Why would they suddenly start wearing slacks like their dads?
