Is a hoodie suitable casual wear for a man in his seventies?

My DH wants to buy a couple of hoodies. Now his sons don't wear them anymore two in their forties youngest mid twenties. DH is 76 I'm trying to talk him out of it. Am I out of touch?

Isn't it awful that your husband tells you what you can and can't wear...? What controlling behaviour!

Im torn really, I wear them in my 60s but my grandfather and uncles used to dress so beautifully. Always in tweed suits, shirts and ties and morning suits for weddings.
I cannit imagine any of them in hoodies. Id probably collspse with the shock..
I wear what I like though Id never dress like my grandmother did. I think heads would turn if I walked down the high street wearing furs some of them with the head of the animal still attached. And always with a hat on.
As long as his hoodie fits well and doesnt have breakfast down the front. A nice jumper would look a lot better though.

My 69 yr old dh wears Lululemon hoodies and track pants and looks really tidy and well put together.

I've just said I'll insist he goes back to salt rock and gets his hoodies. Give me a break!!

No not always. But he thinks I'm too old to be showing flesh these days. I've thrown out my swimsuits and bought tankini tops and swimming shorts now which to be fair i do prefer. No more adjustments to gussets or straps. So they're a win.

I think you can get some quite smart ones with zips down the front. They can look quite grown up and smart

I think Id draw the line at short shorts though. Is he having some kind of a late life crisis?

I'm okay. I'm not as firm any more so covering up bingo wings etc doesn't bother me.

But it is ok for him to show off his legs in his short shorts? And you have to sit with all the windows shut to facilitate his wearing of the short shorts?

Anyone should wear anything they want to.
This is going back a while, but 20 years ago, I remember hearing about an old man with cancer who insisted his wife bring him a suit for the hospital, and just finding it really poignant. And the staff told her comfy clothes.

It doesn't matter about "firmness". You should wear whatever you want to. He shouldn't tell you what is or isn't appropriate to go out in.

hoodies are just a fleece top, or big jumper with a hood, they are hardly age dependent,

snd if you wish to wear low cut tops and short skirts do so,

id wear a hoodie at 76, not sure id be in a low cut top and short skirt in my 7os, if you are, but if you want to crack on.

No nothing new he's always liked having a tan when he was young his short shorts were almost indecent especially when boxer shorts came in rather than tight underpants which kept everything locked away.

You sound as bad as each other policing what clothes you're allowed to wear. You should both wear what you want and stuff what is "suitable. "

We've two dogs that get smelly in the heat I like the windows open as much as possible to air the rooms. He doesn't like draughts and honestly has no sense of smell. Grandson said the other day what's that awful smell. I said it's grandpa's deodorant he's just sprayed on eau de Lidl 🤣

OP you spend too much time asking mumsnet for their opinions when you should talk to your husband about his boundaries and moods etc.

If she had included her other concern about her clothing in her first post, it would have been a lot more useful. No one should police each other’s clothes, obviously.
