Is a hoodie suitable casual wear for a man in his seventies?

My DH wants to buy a couple of hoodies. Now his sons don't wear them anymore two in their forties youngest mid twenties. DH is 76 I'm trying to talk him out of it. Am I out of touch?

Well yeah, if you only wanted people to respond why have the same opinion as you then you probably should have!
Does he like them? Will he be comfortable in them? If they answer to both of those is yes then I’m not sure what your objection is?

My 76yo dad was rocking a pair of combat shorts, flip flops and a hoody yesterday.

For the third time I stand corrected. He should wear hoodies. 🙄

I hate hoodies so I admit I'd be trying to steer him towards something else. Fortunately my DH aged almost 65 hates them too.

But if he likes them there's not much you can do to stop him, really just don't be seen out with him wearing one

Ah it’s you. Every time I read your posts OP it strikes me that you and your DH really dislike each other. What keeps you together?

Why ? Because they’d agree with you ? We always tell women on here there is no age limit to wearing what you want ?

I don't dislike him. I think he wishes that he was with a much younger woman who could still keep up with him. I've recently had two new hips after a three year wait for surgery. He hated my infirmity sticks etc.

He hates that people his age are dying of cancer and we keep going to funerals. We've one friend breast cancer that's spread, another with bone cancer, a third with blood cancer. Another who's forever fighting skin cancer. He really has a horror of it now. It's his mortality he's wrestling with I think.

It's unacceptable that he had that response to your hip surgery. You're his wife, doesn't he respect that? Doesn't he respect you?
He sounds absolutely awful.

My DH wore hoodies aged 73. He wore what suited him which was mostly jeans and fleece tops.

You've had enough responses by now telling you you are unreasonable about the hoodies (I agree) but I think more interesting is why you think he can dictate to you what is 'appropriate' on your body...

Would you LIKE to still wear dresses above the knee? Is there anything you'd still wear if he wasn't so negative about it? Do you still get to wear things that make you feel good? That is important

My dads 80 and we all buy him nice hoodies , he loves them and he suits them , and it not uncommon for him ask his grandsons were they got they ones from !

He’s 76. I think he’s old enough to decide what he wants to wear.

My dad is a similar age and if he turned up to something in a hoodie, I’d burst out laughing.

A 3/4 zip is probably the better option, BUT I think it ultimately depends on the type of hoodie he’d after and colour. No harm in him trying one on and deciding after.

Why would you burst out laughing? Sounds a bit unpleasant. Let him wear whatever he wants.

Because:

1. It really wouldn’t suit him.

2, He’s got a history of saying he doesn’t like them.

Hoodies are pretty much a wardrobe staple a bit like jeans or T-shirts, anyone of any age can wear them. But this isn’t the real issue is it given the turn this thread has taken

So? People can change their minds and wear whatever they choose.

My mum is 80. She wears hoodies and leggings/joggers when shes relaxing at home. She looks great! And more importantly shes comfortable and warm.

Absolutely, it took a turn.

My Dad is 79, last seen wearing a hoodie, sunglasses, shorts, flip flops and a backwards baseball cap. Looked great and was happy.

My dad’s 75 and wears sweatshirts, hoodies, jeans, jogging bottoms and baseball caps. Not backwards. He’s also really feeling his mortality now friends are dying. I don’t think it’s unusual.

My 76 year old DH looks lovely in his hoodies.
Oddly enough, and I've known him since he was 18, he's never worn jeans or trainers.

Some of the patients I care for are elderly and they have hoodies which do look fine, they are just a basic item really.

I’m er, 50 on Sunday (sob) and my favourite hoody is a short black Under Armour one.
