Can someone explain the appeal of expensive Hermès bags to me

I don’t know how, but I recently got sucked into watching a bunch of Love Luxury videos on YouTube which features rich people buying expensive Hermes bags. Can someone please explain the obsession with Hermes bags? To me, they look very basic or just plain ugly. I cannot fathom why someone would pay £20,000-200k on a bag which costs a fraction of that price to produce and was mostly made in China. I’d rather get a good quality bag which has been handcrafted locally for £200 or less. Someone please explain it to me?!

Why would you find that impossible to believe?

I’ve met one. He looked a bit like Chandler Bing but he was about 4 inches shorter than me.
He was fantastic company and made me laugh. Was a bit wild though.
He came to my home city once, looked me up and rang the house phone and got my dad.
I took him for a night on the town, he had a friend with him and once the expensive champagne came out the girls came a flocking and I went home.
To quote my late mum, well imagine the life. You could have worn flats and got him some Cuban heels.
He wore jeans both times. He did have a private jet and I knew about his life because who he was connected to my work. But he wasn’t famous.
I can remember talking to him about buying my first house for 35k and he was intrigued - you can buy a house for that? He did ask me loads of questions about my life.
His family life was chaotic. His dad had been married many times. I can remember he was on to my dad for ages as he was thinking about buying a football club. And it was my dad’s club. He bought a different one in the end.
I bumped into him years later on holiday. I was having a walk around a harbour looking at the yachts and there he was. He still looked like a tiny Chandler Bing and was engaged to an heiress.
I still see his name pop up in the business news now and again.
And I look round my very ordinary house and life and think… I should have worn flats and got him some Cuban heels!
