Have you fallen out of “love” with a shop you previously loved?

For me it’s &Other Stories. Granted I looked in yesterday and did try something in but there’s been a change of direction and Inam not liking it.

Know exactly what you mean about falling out of love with an outlet. I've bought all manner of jumpers and tops and dresses from Woolovers over the last couple of decades. I liked that the fabrics were natural and plastic free. But weirdly the older I've got, the frumpier their stuff seems to be. Plus the linen doesn't last as long as it used to. Disappointing. (But I still look from time to time...)

Oh and sloggi. A brand rather than a shop but I splashed out recently and bought a pack of knickers and every pair had torn or ripped within a week because the construction and fabric was such poor quality.They used to last years!( and not cheap, I think a three pack was £27)

Fat Face and White Stuff. All expensive, frumpy and poorly made.

Toast - omg I loved them so much. I'm so old I remember their catalogue from the 90s which was only a few pages long. I bought at least one thing every season for years and years. Then they sold the company and practically overnight the house style became "lesbian land girl meets art school weirdo". The awful yellow and mustard shades, the boring endless indigo everything, the frumpy 50s curtain prints reworked as dresses, the unwearable sizes unless you're over 5' 10", and the overused check patterns that make clothes look like tea towels... you get the idea.

Scamp and dude. Used to be about slow fashion, a few dresses, now they produce all sorts of nonsense and the quality has gone.

Agree! They’re very pleased with themselves these days but really are not as good quality as they were. Feels a bit frumpy too.

Also disappointing now are Jigsaw and Hobbs.

I like mustard. I love indigo. I adore 50s floral curtains in any guise. I'm 5' 10" ... & I still love Toast!!!

All saints - used to love their style and have some of their tops jeans skirts and a silk dress. Their accessories used be disreeetly labeled and high quality leather too. It s all polyester and shouty labels now- awful and natty

Uniqlo - the quality in the main used to be great. They had edgy designer collabs at times and the basics were brilliant. So crap now! I never find anything good :/

Jigsaw - used to be great, simple basics in lovely fibres, I still wear some things that are 20+ years old. But I will not pay £80 for a polyester blouse. I miss old jigsaw!
Monsoon - “ but was a bit more colourful. I have a £30+ year old skirt in a really heavy silk, it drapes beautifully and was expensive but affordable at the time.
Whitestuff/seasalt/fatface - all the same ugly, frumpy prints and overpriced. The stuff never fits either. Used to be quite cool and surfy, now it’s an old lady / primary school teacher shop.
boden - used to love getting the catalogue! Now over priced and skirts too short.
Next - decent basics, now just tat.

TK Maxx. Although that’s been for a few years now. Used to be able to find quality one off random things. Now just racks of polyester nonsense from made up and bought out labels.

I am here to defend M&S though. They’ve got better recently.

Next too, fell out with them a few years ago, everything is the same weird shape and design. I do occasionally buy the other brands through them though.

I agree with every single shop that's been mentioned here and add Hush. Ridiculously overpriced viscose and polyester in drab colours.

The older I’ve got, the cheaper, the more synthetic, the more mass-market they’ve become.

Hush for me. It washes terribly - fades and bobbles after one wash; even the proper cotton stuff.
I tend to stick to Uniqlo for basics as it’s mainly cotton/ linen/ wool. And on H&M / Zara I just search the website using key terms cotton/ linen etc. to wade through their polyester shite.

Zara- had some gorgeous things from there bought from abroad in years gone by, Only got rid of them when I put on weight ☹️. Not the same at all now.
The Body Shop. Absolutely my favourite shop when Anita owned it. Wouldn’t step foot in there now, completely lost its ethos.
Primark. Where do I begin? I wouldn’t risk buying anything from there. Everything disintegrates or falls to pieces.
Matalan. Again, had sone great items from there in the past. I still wear a pair of gym leggings bought 10 years ago. Now it looks like a giant, polyester jumble sale.
Lush, used to be a pleasant experience and great products. Now the staff are like piranhas, they smell you as soon as you step one foot in the door and start interrogating you.
I do buy clothes from M&S though. You have to be careful and check the material though.

Me + Em - all their shirts seems to have victoriana collars or ‘pussy bows’. V tedious

Jigsaw, Hobbs- both seem to have lost much sense of style which is a shame.

I still like M&S but search for natural fabrics.

John Lewis brands have deteriorated I think: missing their Kin range and not always such a good quality choice these days.

I used to live and die in Joe Browns, but now I find the stuff cheap, boring and unflattering. I’ve got some tunic tops from there that I’ve had for over a decade that still wash and wear and are comfortable for work. The last couple of pieces I bought just seemed to fade and die really quickly

What I find frustrating about Reiss is that they can manage to make well fitting clothes for men in natural fabrics but everything for women is polyester.

increase the width of the gusset on the knickers while your at it to end the garrotted muff experience.
