Say like size 14 but curvy or size 10 but no arse and just like a stick.

From your references to skinny/slim women as 'sticks' you can tell you're a thin shamer

Sandytoesies · 22/07/2026 12:41

Pic 2 is far from slim- I’m amazed anyone can think that and it shows how our perception of what is normal has shifted. She looks lovely, but definitely chunky and any bigger would be fat.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/07/2026 12:41

I used to be curvy or more accurately fat. I had nice boobs.
Now Im skinny a size 10 which is skinny on me and I have fried eggs. Im happy thinner but I do wish I had a decent size bust. I may get them "done". I havent decided yet.

Hopefulsalmon · 22/07/2026 12:41

As a size 16-18, I'd happily take either option but if I had to choose I'd go for skinny because it fits with the type of clothes I like.

I can't imagine why ANYone would aspire to be skinny (no curves, no hips, very small breasts, just rail thin.) I know some people are like this naturally so bashing being skinny isn't cool, any more than bashing being fat is, but the OP asked, and IMO I would NOT want to be skinny...

I also don't understand how anyone can possibly be happy with being fat/obese either. It doesn't look good and it isn't healthy. I don't believe anyone who is fat is happy. I mean actually fat, like 4-5 stone overweight or more. Not the Mumsnet fat where you're fat if you're over a size 10, or more than 9 and a half stone. 🙄 I also struggle to understand how being skinny can make anyone happy, because the skinny people I know/have ever known rarely eat, and are constantly watching every single morsel that passes through their lips.

Me personally, I would much rather be curvy than skinny.

I would hate to look like the woman in pic 1 here OR the woman in pic 3. The woman in pic 2 (in the black bikini) has the perfect figure IMO. Fortunately for me, the woman in pic 2 (in the black bikini) is the closest to what my body is like, and I am very happy with it. I could maybe do with losing 10 pounds, but I'll do for now. Smile

i have issues with my body and for me, thinner will always be better. I think picture 1 is what I would aspire to look like. If I looked like picture 2 or 3. I would be deeply unhappy and I consider both to be overweight (my personal opinion). My impression of Mumsnet is completely different to you, where all I see is size 24/26 being described as curvy or being described as you have a ‘neat’ waist.
I think we have lost grip of what is healthy, as evidenced by a lot of people on WLI’s who were happy being curvy and didn’t want to be stock thin, are now hell bent on being as thin as possible and desperate to get their maintenance jabs and terrified of not being prescribed them to keep them thin.

dudsville · 22/07/2026 12:44

I was straight up and down thin until my early 30s. A size 12, slightly curvy for my 30s. I was a size 14 by my 40s, and I felt happiest with my shape and body generally then. I recently crept up to a 16, and I'm not happy with this so I'm working to get back to a 14. I think lots of other people can look good at size 8 and 10, but it didn't suit me.

TwoCatsandAnxiety · 22/07/2026 12:45

Pic two is overweight and any minute now will be fat. Pic one is ill, pic three is pre mounjaro.

FartNRoses · 22/07/2026 12:45

I hate the words ‘skinny’ to describe others.

stargirl27 · 22/07/2026 12:45

My ideal body type is the body type I have - slim size 8, muscular but not bulky (more ‘toned’) small boobs, big bum.

I wouldn’t want to look like any of the 3 photos a pp shared

Magicpaintbrush · 22/07/2026 12:48

I'm 12/14 (size 13!!) and I would love to be a size 10 BUT if I lost enough weight to get down to that size my boobs would disappear. I am only a 36B as it is, I can't afford to lose any more boob, so I feel sort of stuck. As to curvy vs skinny, I really think it depends on the person and how they carry their weight. You could be curvy with beautiful smooth skin and in proportion, or skinny but very sinewy and bony - or, you could be a size 14 and not very toned like me and wobbly in place you'd rather you weren't, or a slim size 10 but toned with lovely skin. It's really hard to say what looks best when there's more at play really than just dress size.

Rugrats100 · 22/07/2026 12:54

Skinny 100%

bananaapplepears · 22/07/2026 12:55

What do you mean? You can see she's overweight.

I’d agree she looks visibly overweight

Slim waist but curvy. I am unfortunately an apple...

Snufkin88 · 22/07/2026 12:59

I’d rather be curvy personally though ideally a size 10 and curvy . The person saying a size 10 is “chunky “ is absolutely ludicrous 😂

Sandytoesies · 22/07/2026 12:59

From nhs Lanarkshire - I know bmi isn’t ideal, but this is a useful guide - pic 2 is at least heaviest normal.

Would you rather have a curvy or skinny figure?
Sandytoesies · 22/07/2026 13:26

In pic 2 - You can see the curve of her tummy against her arm, her thighs and upper arms are chunky and she doesn’t go in at the waist - she’s angling her body, wearing v high rise pants and crossing her legs to make her look slimmer - if she was standing straight on in jeans and vest top you’d see it more clearly. She is very attractive though!

You might not be able to understand it, but one look at the last red carpet Hollywood event would show you are in the minority, very slim is back in fashion. (You could easily argue that in the fashion world it never truly went away).

DoneAndNotDusted · 22/07/2026 13:37

Size 10 isn't "like a stick", especially with vanity sizing. Not all size 14s are curvy; it all depends on body shape. I find that lot of clothes hang better on women with small boobs. I'd like to be an athletic shape, sadly I'm not at the moment!

Edit for typos

I am the same as you. Pic no 2 and also feel like I could lose 10 lbs but don't dislike myself

Whatwouldyoudoif · 22/07/2026 13:42

I've been both- Currently a size 4/6 and loving the freedom of being able to wear whatever i want, however i miss having boobs.

At a size 12/14/16 i felt more insecure when clothed but enjoyed my feminine curves when in the buff.

Proof right here that you're never satisfied/happy with your lot lol!

Define skinny in this context? If you mean very underweight and unhappy or unwell then that's an issue. If you mean slim then I don't think you know a representative sample of healthy/slim people.

There are very, very many naturally very slim, healthy people who exercise and eat full, balanced diets.

OP, are you the same poster who pops up every now and then with a weird question like this? Always the same kind of language and inability to engage with actual comments.

Not proof, just a sample.
Many people are happy with their body.

pastadish · 22/07/2026 14:00

I’m size 10-12 5’5 and not a stick. I am curvy always have been because of my body shape I have a figure 8 body type and will never look like a stick or athletic doesn’t matter how little I weigh.
I’ve lost weight and my arse has gone down a lot so from the side I’m not as curvy as I’d like (have to do squats) but from the front and back there’s curves and I have boobs even though I’m quite slim. My bmi is bordering on overweight at about 63kg ish but I don’t look overweight at all
