Opinions on these sandals please?

I'm eyeing up these sandals but can't decide. Thoughts please?

I am terrible for buying fugly sandals as I want something comfy, then they arrive and I decide they are awful and send them back 😅

I want something closed toe with a back strap for driving/ walking/ work in the summer (my work is quite casual though). Just something I can wear with casual dresses and shorts. That line between comfy but vaguely fashionable is hard to find.

Also welcome other suggestions!

Traditional Menorcan sandals might fit the bill - https://solillas.com/collections/original-menorcan-sandals - they are not totally closed toe, but pretty close. Lots of colours.

And these are quite nice

@OverthecherryI like good jarring but not bad jarring. You do you.

Ok, I will. I think if you only like good jarring you’re going against the spirit of jarring and making it mainstream, buy hey. You do you. Too.

I have to confess I am not much of a flat sandal lover. Sweet on young children.

What do you think about espadrilles Op? Though they are very flat and unsupportive.

category12 · 19/07/2026 15:14

So many people keep suggesting totally flat, thin soled, strappy sandals that are nothing like what OP was looking at.

It's obvious it's completely different tastes at play.

Nobody's wrong. (Except the thin soled strappy sandal people 😂).

I like OPs choice and if I had £68 going spare I'd buy a mustard pair out of spite. 😂

Slugfest · 19/07/2026 15:53

@category12

I had a quick look on their website. I liked the cow print mules

The sandals posted on this thread are some of the worst things I’ve ever seen in my life. The only nice ones are the FitFlop ones.

I agree. Why are women’s sandals so ugly. Why do they all look like toddler shoes as well??

There is a summer dress thread going as well. Which is full of the most dated dresses, one after tother. 😂

PropertyD · 19/07/2026 17:38

How long are you walking in them? I have a couple of pairs of Russell and Bromley sandals from years ago. They have lasted for years and they are the only ones where people make comments on them. I brought in the sale and they are flat and have thin straps which you think are going to break but no, still going.

I have some slip on ones from Moshulu which are very comfortable and I walked all around Florence in them.

PropertyD · 19/07/2026 17:40

Bit like these

You're quite right. They're hideous. Great if they're comfortable though, so fine to wear at home.

I keep looking at the OP shoes and can't work out if I quite like them. Some of the colour ways are good. But I like Fly, Art and Birkenstock shoes.

Some of the really flat strappy ones make my feet hurt just looking at them. And foot issues happen for lots of us way before you get to your 80s.

Me too, I like really out there, funky shoes, same brands as you, I love Embassy shoes as well and lots of others that arent particularly well known.

Youspurnme · 19/07/2026 22:20

@Fiendishandfiery I’ve just had a look dear sweet baby Jesus 😂 I’m 51 and averagely stylish (I think) but what in the religious cult is going on with the frumpy dresses and sandals on MN?!

Something strange is happening to me though as a result of this thread. I keep looking at those white Keen Uneek ones & thinking that they're really quite funky & could add edge to some of my outfits ... 😶

Might have to send a picture of them to my sister, so that she talks some sense into me ...!!!

I must admit, I've been disappointed by that thread (& quite a few others of late). Is it the heat?? As it seems as lots of posters don't care much about what they wear when it's hot outside??

I do though!! I'm in Edinburgh & properly hot weather is uncommon. So I am currently getting the chance to wear the one (huge-brimmed, straw) hat I've ever found that really suits me, the giant yellow 70s sunglasses that I bought decades ago from a vintage shop off Portobello Road, & use some of my vintage woven bags. I'm enjoying accessorising for sunshine!

Yup. It’s a really odd phenomenon 😂

When you say comfortable - do you walk much in them? I am thinking like 10-15k step type days?

As you say - they are nice enough and do look comfortable. Always so hard to tell with sandals though.

In answer to the OP - sorry, nope, those are awful.

I haven’t tried these in particular but Fitflop are frequently recommended by Samantha Brown as a good travel/walking sandal. And they have multiple cute-ish styles.

Thank you - that’s really helpful. I’ll take a look at the other styles too

When I was little I used to enjoy designing wacky and out-there footwear and drawing up blue-prints of the shoes, before using old bits of cardboard, rolls and rolls of sellotape, pipe cleaners and lengths of crazily-coloured string to make them. Sometimes my Mum would help me to use the glue gun to make them extra-professional (yknow, just like the real artisans). I was a deranged, preschool cobbler and once I’d made these many pairs of shoes I would put on fashion shows showcasing several pairs at a time for my lucky parents and grandparents.

I tell you this because I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I would rather wear any one of those pairs of shoes designed by my four-year-old self— including a pair that memorably utilised the labels from several cans of Whiskas so that the shoes had a collage of terrifying cat faces on the front of them— than whatever the fuck any of these are. Extra points to @Gateappreciationwho linked to the worst looking shoes in the history of footwear. It was a challenge, but you rose to the occasion. Bravo! 👏🏻

I would wear those Whiskas sandals!!!

I've just had a look at the Embassy website. OMG 😍. Certainly not to everyones taste but right up my street. Thankyou.

Me too! I'm not keen on the ones linked but some of the other ones are very interesting. Talk about dopamine dressing!
