Opinions on these sandals please?

I'm eyeing up these sandals but can't decide. Thoughts please?

I am terrible for buying fugly sandals as I want something comfy, then they arrive and I decide they are awful and send them back 😅

I want something closed toe with a back strap for driving/ walking/ work in the summer (my work is quite casual though). Just something I can wear with casual dresses and shorts. That line between comfy but vaguely fashionable is hard to find.

Also welcome other suggestions!

I have 2 pairs of these I've bought on Vinted and eBay over the years as they no longer make them. They are brilliant

No one is saying elderly have to put up with hideous clothes, what’s being said is people of different generations make different clothing choices. I’m in my fifties, I absolutely do not dress like an 18 year old. I still wear current clothes, but I am not running round with my socks pulled up and wearing sliders with some jorts. I am not wearing short shorts with my arse hanging out.Could I yes, but like many people my age I am not.

and when we get to our 80s and 90s, very often fashion becomes secondary to practicality, do you need a sturdy sole for stability or foot problems, Velcro straps due to dexterity issues etc, these shoes encompass this hence why a couple of folks have said they are more suited to the elderly.

but you know this, you just haunt these threads derailing them with some odd angst about age,

Isn't it in the tone of what's said?

There is a difference in saying "eww so gross, only someone in their 80s would wear those!" or the like, vs saying "that seems like a style for the older generation" or something. One's more derogatory than the other.

I had no idea so many women were so judgmental about other women’s sandal preferences till I read this thread.

Girlintheframe · 17/07/2026 07:40

It would be a no from me

When I clicked the link, I thought, hell no, but they've actually grown on me pretty quicklyGrin

I'm looking for sandals for the first time in years, and can't see any I like.

Me too. I looked again and actually..... the leopard print ones have grown on me.

barleyfruits · 17/07/2026 07:55

I’m wearing these for closed toe

Iwiicit · 17/07/2026 09:28

Well I really like the leopard print ones and I'm not ashamed to admit it! I'm in my 50s. I also absolutely love those pink Moshulu shoes up thread.
Many of the alternatives posted her strike me as far, far more hideous but it wouldn't do if we were all the same.

I wanted a closed toe and strap and I hate fisherman’s sandals so it’s been a real struggle to find something non fugly. I got these:

https://embassylondon.co.uk/products/gigot-red-multi?_pos=2&_psq=Gigot&_psid=14ec7988f&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Not strictly sandals but they’ve fulfilled what I wanted in a summer shoe.

Oh my,

I don’t think you hit the non fugly brief….

I don’t think it’s judgemental to give an honest answer to a request for an opinion. Otherwise, what would be the point of asking?

3luckystars · 17/07/2026 10:40

They really are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen.

I like sandals on other people but not me. I have given up. I hate them all.

Overthecherry · 17/07/2026 11:17

I think the key is to switch your aesthetic, to allow your eye to enjoy good design. Op linked to well designed sandals.

all the people who derided them Didnt say why. Maybe an explanation of exactly what their imaginary offence is would be enlightening. I’ve the sense it’s all brainwashing that ladies have dainty feet.

wheresmeaircon · 17/07/2026 11:22

@OverthecherryI don’t like the combination of the wedge cork footbed & the style of the upper, particularly the cut outs. I find it jarring.

I like all sorts of sandals, today I’m wearing Birk Arizonas.

You must be new to this board then as fugly sandals are one of the biggest bones of contentious things here along with Botox.

Mary46 · 17/07/2026 12:18

Very dated I think but I do like the fit flops. Maybe their good support but they awful!!

GreenLemonade · 17/07/2026 12:20

I don’t think OP is coming back after these comments…

TheSquareMile · 17/07/2026 12:33

I think that there are sandals out there which will be much more flattering, OP.

One thing I would say about these particular ones is that the sole looks really thick and solid, making them an unsuitable choice when driving.

Why not? What’s jarring about it?

wheresmeaircon · 17/07/2026 12:43

As I said I find them jarring, I don’t think the uppers suit the soles. Why do you like the design?

Spottyvases · 17/07/2026 12:46

Ironfloor269 · 16/07/2026 07:47

It’s a fuck no from me. You’ll look like you are wearing cooked chicken breasts on your feet.

😅😂😂

Marmalademorning · 17/07/2026 12:50

If I saw those on someone I would think yoghurt knitter

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 17/07/2026 13:09

wheresmeaircon · 16/07/2026 19:31

As if older people should be expected to wear clothes which are too hideous or ugly for anyone else.

But surely when you’re 90 you can’t wear the same footwear you did when 40? I don’t wear the same footwear I did when I was 18. I don’t do slingblacks, mules. heels now. I assume at 90 I will have to give up very flat, ankle straps & platforms.

Why? Why would you “give up” what you like and what suits you just because of an arbitrary age?

I wouldn’t be caught dead in ankle straps at 18, 48 or 88. I wore Converse at 18, I’m still wearing them at 50something and I don’t know why I wouldn’t be wearing them at 80. Likewise cowboy boots, Adidas trainers and ballet flats.

wheresmeaircon · 17/07/2026 13:18

@FlatWhiteExtraHot because age brings changes to your body. I don’t think it’s rocket science 🤷🏻‍♀️

You're missing the point. No one is suggesting or said age doesn't bring changes. That's such a straw woman. As a PP said it's s the derogatory tone.

Hideous unless you’re in your 90’s

They’re horrible! Unless you’re 80+

As opposed to "not stylish but probably good if you have mobility issues"

Can you really not see the difference? This gets trotted out time after time - something is hideous but it'll do for older women.
