Sandals for 20k steps a day on city break

EverytimeItPours · Yesterday 09:59

i really can’t do trainers in very hot weather but I need something very comfortable for walking 20k plus steps a day. I’ve looked at Skechers, fitflop, teva but I think I need a recommendation. Has anyone found any with good arch support and very cushioned soles which might fit the bill?
I know there are lots of actual hiking sandals but I’d like something more attractive if possible

I've sort of forsworn new Tevas (I don't feel like buying Israeli goods at the moment) but ... Tevas are really good! They don't have to be fugly. I usually get the leather ones and they're great. Though some of the ones with a contoured foam sole (NOT the ones with a sole made of flipflop foam) have pretty woven straps and are attractive.

Before I discovered Teva, I used to buy comfortable supportive sandals from Clarks. This was back in the Stone Age but you never know ...

@GlomOfNit Teva the walking sandals brand are not Israeli-owned... Teva History | Founded by Mark Thatcher . Teva Naot (known as Naot) is an Israeli brand. Please check your sources before spreading misinformation on the internet!

I have these Midform Infinity Sandal (which are probably the ones PP says NOT to buy) and they're incredibly comfortable. The straps are tight and can dig in a little if your foot swells but I don't find that uncomfortable. I ended up switching from trainers to these sandals on a city break recently as they were actually more comfortable. They do make that flip flop noise when you walk though which can be a bit annoying. I have the normal Voya Infinity Sandal too but I don't find them as good for walking long distances.

I find the saltwater sandals with soft soles great for walking all day, their more traditional ones are too flat and hard for long days on your feet, but specifically the soft sole range, i have the boardwalk ones and use them for airports and city breaks and they are just great. Not cheap but they are 3 years old so far and going strong

Have a look in mountain warehouse

I wouldn't recommend footware from mountain warehouse. I bought three pairs from them last year (sandals for me, sandals and trainers for my daughter). After less than three months of not daily use both of my daughter's were falling apart and mine were looking really tatty. None of her other shoes have worn through like that, nor come apart. I've gone back to the old pair from Hotter which have lasted about six years, and I've gone back to Clarks for her.

A bit of a marmite option but I have always worn Birkenstocks on holidays were we do a lot of walking and they are very comfortable (I always wear Madrids). I recently got back from a city break in France and we were averaging about 8 miles a day and my Birkenstocks stood up (just make sure you break them in properly!)

Fitflop are great for me. the ones with a red dot on the sole.

I’ve used mountain warehouse sandals daily through the summer and they’ve held up well.

My first pair I used for about 6 years and the replacement pair I got this year but still going strong.

I’ve got a pair of Camper sandals that are very comfy.

I did 25000 steps on Saturday in fitflops.

Tera Tirra Travelers are good for this. Proper sole and fairly nice upper. I have an old pair that I've done a couple of city breaks with 20k steps per day in recently in comfort.

I'm currently stalking websites for colours/prices because I want a pair in a more neutral colour than the ones I have, which are looking a little worn anyway. As far as I can tell there's blue, black, cream and brown available at the moment although some of these are last year's colour so limited sizing.

But google the name and look for different colours/sizes if you like the look of them.

Ive got fitflop f mode sandals, done lots of miles in them and found them extremely comfy- adjustable straps mean they are even easier to adjust to fit properly.

wheresmeaircon · Yesterday 16:04

I have the Teva midform infinity sandals too

Mine are Clarks and the others are German brand, both are leather. Super comfy.

MrsBroccolini · Yesterday 17:57

I like the Teva Hurricanes (has to be hurricane sole!) or the Keen Uneek. Both excellent and stylish while being a little bit ugly, which I like - not trying too hard to be a “pretty” shoe. Watching for other ideas with interest.

Crocs Brooklyn sandals are comfy for walking and they look nice too! People are always surprised when I say they are Crocs.

I never wear sandals for heat or long walks, just for dressing up TBH. There are far too many opportunities for every sandal I have ever worn to end up too tight over the instep, rub at the heel and so on, especially when feet swell in hot weather.

So.... I have two pairs of backless slip on mule type trainers. Got them in Spain, but they are widely available. Mesh/knitted type fabric, not expensive, but OMG they are so light and feet never rub, no straps, no socks needed, and I can walk miles in them. Just my opinion on holiday walking footwear!

cherrypiesally · Today 05:24

Skechers Bobs Desert Kiss are so comfy. I have worn them all day around Disney Parks and look smart enough for work and I can stand up teaching in them all day.

WhereAreWeNow · Today 05:28

Fitflops for me. I've got some old ones which are just so comfortable. I walk a lot on holiday and these never rub. I don't think they still make the style though.

MsDastardley · Today 06:33

Eco off road. I used these when we were walking in US. They have a microfibres lining so don’t rub. https://gb.ecco.com/product/ecco-offroad/069563/02038 gb.ecco.com/product/ecco-offroad/069563/02038]]]]. They come in different colours.

I’ve had lots of different makes over the years, but these are ones I go for if I’m planning on walking far
