looks like something the chorus in a panto would wear to me, the villagers. Unless you are very slim around the rib cage and not blessed of boobage it is unlikely to be flattering imo and might make you look like a 1950s nun on her day off - Sound of Music vibes.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/06/2026 21:17

I’m 55 and have one that shape/style from Sainsburys but it’s green gingham.

I think it’s a lovely dress.

lljkk · 29/06/2026 21:35

I strongly don't like it. But that's me and maybe you'd hate what I wear, too.
Age has nothing to do with whether it suits someone.

Zov · 29/06/2026 22:05

I'm in my mid 50s and I wouldn't wear this if someone paid me to.

But if you like it, then wear it @barcodenotfound

Same. I’m 53. This dress would make me feel really dowdy and depressed.

AppleTheStoolasMom · 29/06/2026 22:37

It looks like a summer primary school dress, but if you want to wear it, or anything else for that matter, go buy it!

Is it from the school uniform section?

mondaytosunday · 29/06/2026 22:39

I don’t like it but if it’s your thing then wear it! It is quite frumpy though.

Zov · 29/06/2026 22:42

I thought summer school dress too.

Mid 50s, is this ok?
AlgaeDreams · 29/06/2026 22:52

I'm 50s and if you like the dress then go for it. It's not personally my style as I hate anything puffy sleeved. The thought of elastic round my arms just makes me feel odd.

If you like it, go for it.

It reminds me of a long night shirt my grandad used to wear in his 80's - same colour stripes.

This is what I thought but - each to their own.

I am now thinking it's a plug for a brand as mentioned upthread.

It just needs a Wee Willy Winkie hat.

Don't do it, I ordered it and looked like Marie Antoinette in her milkmaid era. Dreadful.

NB would like to add that I ordered it in a moment of desperation for an event with a blue and white theme!!

Iheartmysmart · 30/06/2026 07:00

I’m 58 and wouldn’t wear it. A bit too reminiscent of a nurses uniform from the 1940s. But then I’ve been wearing denim shorts and band t-shirts in the warm weather and have a general dislike of dresses so what do I know.

Jk987 · 30/06/2026 07:04

Age is irrelevant. I think the dress has too much material round the middle so could look bulky/unflattering on.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 30/06/2026 07:10

I think a striped shirt style dress is better. I’ve seen more stylish versions of a striped dress.

Ha ha
I just bought a vertical striped midi tie waist dress shirt collar style.

It looks like the woolworths uniform I wore for my Saturday job in the 90s. Epic fail.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 30/06/2026 07:44

The blue shirt dress is always a good choice. Most of us have no idea what Woolworths staff wire! A traditional shirt dress is shirt materiel and obviously cut like a shirt!

@barcodenotfound These are on the M&S web site. All would look great with espadrilles and a basket bag. You simply cannot go wrong and add a gold necklace and earrings.

I’m 45 and wear whatever the fuck I want. I will still be wearing short skirts when I’m in my 50s because I’ve got great legs.
If you like the dress, wear it.

I agree with you. These laboured, "hilarious" looks like.... comparisons are tedious.

The OP's dress is a copy of Nobody's Child Starlight dress. I like the stripy one in your link-blue and white stripes always look crisp and well turned out.

Wowisthisit · 30/06/2026 07:58

I haven't even clicked the link because I think if you like it, wear it, your age doesn't matter.

They look like old fashioned nightgowns 😂
