I like it, and I like the pretty colour. It's suitable for any age, so long as you feel comfortable with it yourself.

Not sure what being mid 50s could possibly have to do with it?

It’s a very modest, somewhat dreary dress.

Why do you call it dreary? Because it’s not flamboyant/brightly coloured/provides no scope for displaying inches of cleavage?

abitbloodybrighteroverthere · 28/06/2026 09:21

Why so aggressive, @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER? It’s just a random dress on the internet. Everyone will have their own opinion on it - and is entitled to do so.

I'm not the poster you're referring to, but personally I find it dreary because it looks like a shapeless duvet cover and the colour reminds of the sheets they used in the school sick bay in the nineties 😂

If you found my post aggressive, you must have a strange definition of the word.

I'm also mid 50s and wear whatever I like. I went out last night in a silk playsuit and , horror of horrors, high heels 👠

It reminds me of a long night shirt my grandad used to wear in his 80's - same colour stripes.

Toveylove · 28/06/2026 14:42

It’s feminine, fresh, timeless. Remember that people offering their opinions here may be people that, in real life, you would find badly dressed and never ask for advice, so many pinches of salt required.

I agree with this but some things on S&M are hideous [not this dress] and are fawned over which I for one can't understand but each to their own.
My advice is usually wear what YOU like and what makes YOU feel good.
Be it a bin liner or a £3000 dress to go to Tesco in, it doesn't matter if it's stylish or fashionable, be yourself.

TrixieMixie · 28/06/2026 18:16

Nothing to do with age but this dress is not to my taste at all - looks like a milkmaid outfit!

Lovemycat2023 · 27/06/2026 22:53

I have a personal aversion to puff sleeves, but otherwise I like it - nice clean fresh look

Same. Personally the puff sleeves would put me off but other than that it's perfectly nice at any age.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/06/2026 18:30

It’s a rather boring dress. My only thought was it is it may make you look older than you are.

vincettenoir · 28/06/2026 18:36

I think it would best suit someone tall. But that’s not to say it wouldn’t look good on someone who isn’t.

The same applies to you, surely? Wink

UhOhRatPoo · 28/06/2026 21:03

The dress is OK, if boring, but that “pixiegirl petite” site is full of cheap and nasty crap. I suspect it will be low quality.

pimplebum · 28/06/2026 21:06

Nothing should stop you wearing anything!!
possibly height bust or colouring but never age !!!!!

I think she means working class 😅

I took that to mean shapeless.

jackspratswife01 · 28/06/2026 22:15

Not for me too frumpy

Also cant see the dress but if you like it, wear it.

I cant be the only mid fifties woman who just thinks 'do I like it?'. My age never crosses my mind!

I’m 60 and think the same!

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 29/06/2026 04:34

I think a nun in her 80s could wear that. As could a teenager. It's a very modest, blend into the background kind of dress. It also looks cool and comfortable. What's not to love?

I think you are exactly the wrong age for this dress. Like me, you are old enough to remember old ladies wearing dresses like this when style rules were very rigid for anyone over 40.

Imo a dress like this looks great on a young person in an ironic way; two fingers to the overly naked looks often going around. I think hair and makeup needs to be glamorous to balance this dress. Or it suits a nun etc for it's comfort and chaste look.

Do you know what I mean? I remember approximately 15-20 years ago all the young stylists in the local very expensive hair salon dyed their hair grey. It looked great in contrast to their very fresh skin and dramatic makeup. In my 30s it wouldn't have worked as I would have looked 10-15 years older.

Because you're 59 that irony could be lost on you and you'll fall in between unless you're very good with styling.

StasisMom · 29/06/2026 08:33

HedgeRowsCircle · 27/06/2026 22:25

is it just me or does this look like a plug for a brand?

I know what you mean, I cannot see why anyone would think that might be unsuitable for any age. It's not to my taste but perfectly inoffensive.

EdithBond · 29/06/2026 09:33

It’s hard to advise without knowing your look.

Could make you look a little washed out if you’re light skinned with blonde or grey hair, especially shorter hair. But on someone dark skinned with dark hair (like the model), it’d look OK.

Think it’d look good with red accessories to jazz it up a little: red lip, red bag.

Aslana · 29/06/2026 16:50

Lovely fresh colour and style.
Personally I dont much like the sleeves but it has nothing to do with age. You should definitely wear if you like it.
