Do you wear knickers with chub rub shorts?

Sorry was the easiest way to describe them. I love summer dresses but need the shorts underneath. I’ve always worn knickers but was thinking that actually it’s an extra layer. If they have a gusset then I assume they’re designed to wear on their own?

In my late teens I wore thick leggings without knickers in the summer, if I didn't I'd get stinging type pain. My bits did not like to be hot! But obviously, like knickers I'd only wear them once before washing. I can't see the issue not wearing knickers, esp as it's under a dress.

Could you try walking with your feet further apart?

Ah, I chucked out the sloggi ones because unless I got the two legs exactly even the lace rubbed against the other leg causing yet more soreness and defeating the object. My current ones are M&S.

As for not having room to take multiple pairs on holiday, these ones are so thin and light they take up less space than a pair of normal cotton knickers so I do take a week’s worth of them with me.

I find the comments about needing cotton odd too, breathable man-made fibres are far fresher than cotton which just stays damp, same as sports clothes in technical fibres are vastly better than cotton shorts and teeshirts for staying dry.

Come back and discuss it when wearing anything but cotton gives you yet another UTI!

ExquisiteDressing · 22/06/2026 22:19

I haven’t had a UTI for about 40 years and have been wearing chub rubs for the last few summers, so not worried!

ExquisiteDressing · 22/06/2026 22:22

Seriously, they stay far fresher than cotton, you should try them.

I couldnt care less about freshness as I am not that sweaty. They work for my sister, but not for me. Every womans body is different....who knew?

I was first in hospital with a UTI at 19, and most recently at 51 followed by the two week pathway, because of the symptoms. As soon as I started on 100% cotton.....no problems.

ETA I was 100% cotton for years but when I got into fitness and started wearing gym gear they came back. So.....

Who could forget this mum running in school race and falling over ? Should have had her chub rubs on 😂

I get thrush unless it's cotton. I'm very prone to thrush unfortunately.

To all the posters who recommended Wirarpa anti chafe shorts- THANK YOU!

I bought from Amazon this week on the back of this thread and I'm finding them far less sweaty than the nylon ones I had before. Quality is great and so comfortable, that I'm wearing them as shorts around the house. Currently a size 16 and ordered a L size which is perfect.

So I just caught sight of the snagg advert and they definitely require underwear and the models wear underwear. I’m guessing others are different and may not require undies. My sister wears a different one (possibly M&S) and wears them as knickers. I guess it’s brand and person dependent.

I wear knickers under means I can get a couple of days wear out of them, the thought of no knickers with them is a bit grim but I suppose if I had enough to change daiky its not that different

PurpleSky300 · 21/06/2026 21:50

Of course I wear knickers. Anti-chafing shorts aren't underwear.

They are underwear.

HeartySloth · 26/06/2026 17:39

It very much depends on the type, some are more opaque and they are made from all different fabrics. I get mine from the Big Bloomers Company and their website calls them both shorts and knickers in the same paragraph:

These Slip Shorts are the ultimate solution for skirts and dresses. They're soft, lightweight and breathable – you'll barely know you've got them on. Our Anti Chafing Knickers have been specifically designed to stop chafing thighs and chub rub. The ideal summer solution. Sizes UK8-36+

To clarify, there is only 1 type they do, not both shorts and knickers.

Depends on the type.

I have some that call them self underwear and have a gusset and more that call them "shorts" and don't have a gusset.

If someone only has the type that aren't underwear,.it's not unreasonable for them to think they aren't.

Do you need underwear with them?

No. They are long legged knickers. It literally says underwear in the label.

latetothefisting · 26/06/2026 23:46

StarlightLady · 26/06/2026 05:48

They are underwear.

then why are they called anti-chafing shorts and not anti-chafing knickers/underwear?

StarlightLady · 26/06/2026 23:54

Shorts are a style of knickers. Even M&S describe some of their knicker styles as shorts.

l suppose it depends on whether you are expected to wear them under a skirt or a dress (in which case they are underwear) or just with a top (then l concede outerwear).

BabblingBiddy · Yesterday 10:27

The Snag website says they are designed to be worn without underwear. But I wouldn't wear tights without knickers (not since my ballet days), so don't wear chub rubs without them either.
