Do you wear knickers with chub rub shorts?

Sorry was the easiest way to describe them. I love summer dresses but need the shorts underneath. I’ve always worn knickers but was thinking that actually it’s an extra layer. If they have a gusset then I assume they’re designed to wear on their own?

Yes, I do. The thought of my skirt blowing up and displaying my bare bum or fanny adams under tights is too awful 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Roll on clear deodorant works so much better, like they use to do years ago.

Could you try walking with your feet further apart?

This has made me laugh for the first time in a while! 🤣

hecalledmecaptain · 22/06/2026 09:30

I do, because I'll sometimes wear chub rub shorts more than once as I'm not a sweaty person.

I tried this and it does absolutely nothing for me.

LettuceAndCarrots · 22/06/2026 09:54

Only if they're 100% cotton otherwise I get itchy. Tbh I prefer French knickers or something loose. Or going commando with a petticoat if the skirt is a decent length (doesn't help thigh rub of course though).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/06/2026 09:54

Of course you have to wear underwear with them! They’re not knickers. The gusset on chub rub shorts is like a tights gusset, it’s not thick enough to be hygienic.

If they’re just ordinary shorts rather than specific “chub rub” ones they wouldn’t have a gusset so I would think would be uncomfortable without underwear.

It’s not hot at all. I wear the snag tights ones and they cool you down rather than “adding a layer” in the sense of making you hotter.

If they’re actually knickers but with legs then obviously that’s different

ExquisiteDressing · 22/06/2026 10:07

Of course not, they are underwear and you don't need two layers.

Focusingonmybreathing · 22/06/2026 10:39

I wouldn't feel right without.
For me it's the same as any shorts or leggings.

Woohootwoo · 22/06/2026 10:43

Like most things in life , it comes down to personal preference. The aim is to reduce discomfort from rubbing thighs. However this is achieved is fine . Also think it depends on what sort of shorts you’re wearing as some are like underwear and others more like normal Lycra cycle shorts. As long as you’re comfortable OP that’s all that’s matters.

Spot on 😂

DressOrSkirt · 22/06/2026 11:20

I don't, but I think they would be needed if the "chub rub" shorts aren't cotton. As well as stopping chaffing I feel a bit "safer" wearing longer knickers incase there is a gust of wind etc

PistachioTiramisu · 22/06/2026 11:40

I may have missed the point here, but what are 'chub rub shorts' please?

Bloomers.

The modern equivalent of.

Justlurking8 · 22/06/2026 12:16

I have recently discovered anti chafe sticks that you rub on areas prone to chafing like a stick deodorant. No longer have to wear shorts in hot weather under a dress/skirt. It’s a game changer!

Giggorata · 22/06/2026 12:20

I use them as if they were knickers, so don't double up. Too hot. Obvs changed at least daily.

ForRedPoet · 22/06/2026 12:23

Def wear knickers.
But now I use an anti chafe stick rub. Waaaaay much better.

WonderfulSmith · 22/06/2026 12:31

TallulahBetty · 22/06/2026 08:44

Of course. They're not underwear.

I checked mine as a put them on today, it literally says underwear on the label.

Livpool · 22/06/2026 12:32

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/06/2026 00:04

Nope because I treat them like underwear. Changed daily and washed before re-wearing.

I only buy ones with a 100% cotton gusset though.

I do this too. I am not going to wear 2 pairs of knickers

Oh ok - mine do not. However, I will continue to wear knickers too (I only wear thongs/g-strings anyway, so not like I have 2 layers of massive pants)

Gettingbysomehow · 22/06/2026 12:55

I don't wear pants with mine, I get the snag ones, It would be far too hot, they get washed after one wear.
Mind you I'm post menopause so as dry as the sahara desert so I don't have to worry about any "staining". Sorry TMI I know.

BridgeBurners2ndArmy · 22/06/2026 13:04

Another who wears the sloggi ones - they are definitely underwear:

BabblingBiddy · 22/06/2026 13:13

I wear the snag ones with knickers.
I've tried other brands that are more "knickers with legs" but they aren't long enough to actually stop my thighs rubbing.
