Anyone have a recommendation or a few for shorts that cover these…

  • enough arse covering that my cheeks aren’t showing but not so long they look frumpy
  • no iron / easy iron
  • flatter a big tummy
  • comfortable waist band
  • don’t cut your fanny in half when you sit down
  • on trend / young ish fashion
  • not adversed to something funky

Thanks everyone, very helpful!
I’ve gone for a couple of pairs of Adidas shorts and a couple of skorts.
i like the look of the h and m ones but they seem to be sold out, I’ll keep looking x

These shorts are very similar to the H&M ones, I’ve tried them on.

New look also had similar last year. Search for linens pull on shorts.

Lidl had a nice pair of paper bag shorts, so cheap and flattering

Weneednewnames · 20/06/2026 09:33

As a fellow middle aged midsize woman (in my case also quite pear shaped) the only flattering shorts I have ever found are the sweaty Betty explorer shorts in the slightly longer length (5”). They are non iron, don’t show any bum, have pockets and although they are in a synthetic sports fabric they look good enough for wearing out and about. I’m wearing them right now with a blue linen shirt. I’ve even had compliments on them, which is a first for me in anything short as my legs are definitely not my best feature.

Bellarose53 · 20/06/2026 18:09

Lucy & yak have some nice shorts that look comfy and are on trend which seems to still be 90s y2k 😆

Bromeliads · 20/06/2026 18:16

Sweaty Betty Explorer shorts are my favourite

Nowthatshuge · 21/06/2026 07:07

Slightly off topic but I went into Asda yesterday and got some lovely very flattering dresses

For me you can't beat a decent pair of denim shorts - ive got my eye on a couple of pairs on tiktok shop of all places. One pair from Katch Me and another from Rela Rela. Ive got jeans from both of these are they are really comfy and stretchy, I've had to size down on both. You're looking around £20ish for them.

Difficulty101 · 21/06/2026 09:33

I got some men's shorts, in cotton and linen. The length is good and with a belt so is the shape.

WhisperingAngelisnotbad · 21/06/2026 11:08

I have double layer shorts from Hollister. They don't show anything and they don't look frumpy. They also have a useful pocket for my phone. And they come in quite a wide range of sizes.

Tauranga · 21/06/2026 13:45

Boden linen are lovely, long, flattering.

Next boy fit denim shorts

mine have waistbands like these but are patterned. I never thought they would be ok because of my tummy but the best shorts I own.

I also have these in three colours, really comfortable and look lovely on.

size down though! If you have anything remotely heavy in your pockets they will fall down otherwise.

Is 67 too old for shorts?

Is 67 too old for. Jumpsuit?

Holdinguphalfthesky · 21/06/2026 17:29

HRTFT but I got some leopard print shorts, elastic waist and a drawstring, in Matalan for about £16. They’re great, pockets aren’t brilliant (my phone falls out if I sit down) but they’re comfy and the right length and cotton. Think they also had them in black.

Boden's linen shorts are great. I like the Belgravia style, you can choose leg length, but there are others:

They're a bit more expensive, but I've got a couple of pairs that must be over 10 years old.

These are really nice! Being linen, do they crease a lot during wear?

I think Trinny and Susannah once said above the age of 40 women should not show their legs above the knee.

I am inclined to agree.

Unless they look really youthful maybe?

My shorts are all knee-length and I have never worn minidresses even when very young as my thighs are on the athletic side.

That is ridiculous though!

FFS- those women were horrible with their stupid style rules and judgements.

I merrily show my 48 year old knees because shorts are comfortable, practical and sometimes even stylish. I can’t bear knee length shorts on me, they make me feel like my mum in about 1992.

Comtesse · 23/06/2026 14:07

The views of Trinny and Susannah from 25 years ago are frankly irrelevant!

In more positive news I bought some nice shorts in Mango at the weekend thanks to this thread….

Hedjwitch · 23/06/2026 19:04

My suggestion will be frumpy but I live in Cotton Trader cotton shorts all summer. Longer length, smart enough for work, wash well.

babyproblems · 23/06/2026 19:48

I just bought some casual shorts from the men’s section of H&M. I couldn’t find any shorts that weren’t almost bum showing. Women’s shorts are cut so short! I don’t like the tailored shorts unless you’re dressing up for somewhere. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to find just casual Jersey women’s shorts with a flattering cut and slightly longer leg length!

Oldraver · 23/06/2026 20:12

I've just bought these, I don't usually wear shorts but these fit well. They are massive though and had to get two sizes down

I like Passenger and have the Carriso shorts. Wore them all last weekend for a festival and they were so comfy. They took a lot of battering too and have withstood it all.

These. I'm short, middle aged and midsize - i think they look nice and they are super comfy.

These look really nice. I love that type of double cloth. Think I'll treat myself to a pair. Thanks for linking to them.
