Anyone have a recommendation or a few for shorts that cover these…

  • enough arse covering that my cheeks aren’t showing but not so long they look frumpy
  • no iron / easy iron
  • flatter a big tummy
  • comfortable waist band
  • don’t cut your fanny in half when you sit down
  • on trend / young ish fashion
  • not adversed to something funky

I've just bought these. So so comfy and look nice too.

@Kindnesscostsnothingtryit I’m tempted. Would you say they are true to siz?

Good selection in M&S

I like Passenger and have the Carriso shorts. Wore them all last weekend for a festival and they were so comfy. They took a lot of battering too and have withstood it all.

Boden's linen shorts are great. I like the Belgravia style, you can choose leg length, but there are others:

They're a bit more expensive, but I've got a couple of pairs that must be over 10 years old.

There’s loads of wearable shorts at the moment - I’m middle aged, medium build, just got some H&M high-waist denim bermuda shorts - so easy to wear with a t shirt or floaty blouse and sandals… if you don’t like knee length they have a range of easy styles atm

I have the h&m ones, perfect apple shape ones

ToadRage · 19/06/2026 10:35

I got a two pack of shorts from yours. I don't like short shorts but also don't want to look frumpy, these hit just above the knee.

ToadRage · 19/06/2026 10:40

These ones.

I’m wearing these today from peacocks, 100% cotton and a lovely colour and flattering style.

These are much nicer than the photos make them look. Very comfortable, long enough (I’m 5ft 10)

Ambela jean shorts. I know, you wouldn't normally class denim as checking your boxes, but honestly it doesn't feel like normal restrictive denim. Designed to fit curvy bodies (lots of different sized models on the website). I gave a pair of their jeans a go, sure they couldn't be as good as they claimed, and honestly they are. The shorts too. Works for larger tummies, doesn't dig in, sensible length, don't cling to larger thighs. Really stretchy. A little more on the pricier side for jean shorts (£60), but absolutely worth it.

Just bought a med wash denim pair today from Mango. High rise at waist. Plenty of leg material , Bermuda length. They look great and I hate shorts. £29.99.

Im between a 12 and 14 and risked a 12 and they're perfect.

Another vote for Uniqlo, lovely elasticated waist perfect length!

floralchoices · 19/06/2026 22:59

I find shorts really unflattering. On my middle aged self that is. I usually opt for a skirt instead but perusing these options to see if my mind can be changed!

Hankunamatata · 20/06/2026 01:27

Iv gone for skort. Just feels more flattering

Iftheresawilltheresaway · 20/06/2026 02:00

Matalan have nice ones in various colours..Elasticated waist, £12.50. Really comfortable and good length

These are my favourite shorts. I have them in every colour.

I love these as well. I pick up a few pairs every summer. They’re relaxed but still look chic. I took a black pair on holiday and they’re as useful for the beach as they are paired with a black vest and gold jewelry for an evening out. H&M have loads of shorts, including funky ones, at a range of price points, so the website is well worth a look.

furimosa · 20/06/2026 06:13

@langnebmydear they are lovely & actually flattering looking. Thanks I’m going to order.

Tootandcomeinagain · 20/06/2026 06:17

Just to derail the thread here slightly but where are people finding decent scoop vests to go with these. I prefer a slightly looser top but everything is quite tight fitting

Nowthatshuge · 20/06/2026 07:08

Thanks everyone, very helpful!
I’ve gone for a couple of pairs of Adidas shorts and a couple of skorts.
i like the look of the h and m ones but they seem to be sold out, I’ll keep looking x

M&S. I spent hours going round the shops looking for decent vest tops and it was very difficult to find anything decent. I actually sized down in M&S because I prefer a more fitted look.
