M&S gladiator sandals

Are these awful? I really like them however my DC physically recoiled when I tried them on, they are slouchy teens so I kind of get it. I thought they were kind of cool and would be nice dressed up (flippy short skirt) or down (denim shorts). Gladiators

They do give hints of poor Victorian invalid wearing callipers to correct their rickety legs.

When I imagine Gladiator sandals I think more of a criss cross style.

hazeleyesJ · 11/06/2026 22:32

I have to say I find it hard to picture these looking flattering on anyone! I think it’s how high they seem to come up?

but if you love them, try them on instore, and bring a few clothing items in with you so you can see properly

Moveoverdarlin · 11/06/2026 22:34

I love a gladiator sandal. And if you have long, thin legs they look great. But I think you need to be ultra stylish to pull these off.

Ihatemondays1962 · 11/06/2026 22:38

Yes, they are awful.

Excellent description. Sorry, OP!

Arlanymor · 11/06/2026 22:43

I'm not stylish in the least, but ankle or bust as far as Gladiator sandals go... unless you're in a film or on stage. Also just checked them next to my little tan ones - shouldn't they be criss-crossed as opposed to straight?

SweetBaklava · 11/06/2026 22:59

WTAF!!!! No… just no 😂

Couldn't have said it better.

Sorry OP!

OhThePotential · 11/06/2026 23:04

I’m sorry, OP, they are horrible.

They look kind of incoherent….like they’re made of some leftover soles that were made for boots with some watch straps stuck on.

A lot of M&S shoes have an ‘awkward’ shape but this is extreme.

DrFoxtrot · 11/06/2026 23:05

Sorry, I agree with PP, gladiator sandals are hideous.

DrFoxtrot · 11/06/2026 23:06

Unless you are a gladiator

durdledoris · 11/06/2026 23:06

The good thing would be yoir teenagers won't nick or borrow them - seen my 14 year old eyeing up my new adidas trainers so will be watching her!!

That particular pair look cheap but I love gladiator sandals - I do have long legs that suit the style though.

Is everything ok at home?

Ah, you again. I thought that was quite funny - & visually pretty accurate! As did others.

How on earth is she "lying", & why are you so riled by perfectly innocuous humorous comments on MN? 🤷‍♀️

I really like gladiator sandals as a style, OP - & toga-style dresses! But these are not nice. They look really cheap too, when you zoom in - even though they're not. The finish is rubbish.

Also - think of the tan lines ...!!

I know they're brown, & three times the price, but these are much nicer ...!! I'm sure there are nicer black ones out there too.

Jesus.

EleanorMc67 · 12/06/2026 01:05

These are just a bit dearer, & have that type of zip back. Not my favourite, but better than the M&S ones IMO. This higher style does truncate the leg though.

But gladiator sandals generally look better when they don't come as high up the leg as the M&S ones - the high ones do tend to look best on long slim legs.

These Clark's ones are cheaper & will be a lot comfier, I bet.

These have the zip back too, & are also nicer (also dearer though). Supposedly tight-fitting.

If it's the height at the back & the extra straps that you like, OP - these are much much nicer. And you can see that the quality & finish is so much better - they actually look comfy!

Though they're quite a bit dearer ... but if you love the style there are loads more around. I just think you can do much better than the M&S ones (which I think will be in the sale very soon, for £20, in droves ...!).

I generally try to be positive on these threads but I might have recoiled as well when I opened the link. Sorry!

I agree. It's "Suzy Quatro's fat nan" syndrome. The same way jacquard dresses look like "my Nan's sofa" or bold floral is "my Nan's curtains" (other elderly female relatives are available)

Or the posters who seem to think "looks like an art teacher /librarian" is somehow undesirable.

And then there's the old faithfuls - Grayson Perry, Quakers and Handmaid's Tale.

The sandals are very ugly and look a lot cheaper than they are.
