My DDs wedding is fast approaching and although I've tried on many dresses and have kind of got an ok dress, I'm not 100% sure it's the one. Wedding will be bright and colourful, church followed by gorgeous victorian conservatory venue reception. I'm 56, 5'8 Sz 14-16 with a largishbust/hourglass figure.
I want a block coloured magenta/,fuscia pink which i think will complement my hair which is salt& pepper but is being grey blended and styled before the big day.

Can I have your honest (but not too harsh) opinions please?
The one I think I'll go with is fron Wallis from vinted having exhausted my search for a new one online. I can upload the others that I have also bought.

Also to say I prefer longer length as I do have a pesky varicose vein in my calf that I'm a bit self conscious of.

As is this bright pink one. Both these eBay shops accept returns.

This cool dark green would be good on you. Too dark if you want to stand out?

@EleanorMc67 thank you for all those suggestions, as much as Id love to wear a sleeve i thinks it's going to be just too warm for it especially at the reception venue... at my time of life I run a bit hot most of the time!

Tie waists can be a bit unflattering on me as they accentuate the bust which I'd rather minimise and the same for a higher neckline.

Colourwise I do like the more subtle colours but have been told probably not green (and I love green!) But on this occasion I'll be in the company of some very Brightly attired guests.

I'm not too concerned with being high fashion as I'm not like that irl, just something that suits my body shape/age/ is comfortable.

@scoobs321

I think that you would look stunning in a green such as emerald, OP.

scoobs321 · 08/06/2026 08:58

@TheSquareMile yes me too!

I like the first dress!

friedaklein · 08/06/2026 09:02

I like nearly all @EleanorMc67 's suggestions, especially the Roksandas.

PeacheyPeach · 08/06/2026 09:03

I think you look amazing in the first dress, colour looks amazing and so does your figure. I would put a lovely facinator,/ hat with it and it would dress it up a bit more, a gorgeous pair of shoes and and bag would bring it all together. You could have add a beaded ,/ sequin bolero capelet to add some sparkle to it ,

I think the dress looks gorgeous on you, and agree with other posters silver accessories would be lovely. Your hair is so beautiful too - maybe a half up half down style with a silver clip? (The clip might be a step too far if you are wearing jewellery).
Have a lovely day

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 08/06/2026 12:05

You look great! I particularly like the first dress. nice colour, the cut really suits you and it would probably work for warm weather or a cold spurt with an appropriate jacket.

but why shouldn’t you wear green? The colour would probably suit you.

As for shoes: I don’t think you need heels but I‘m sure you’ll look fantastic wearing them. Will you be on a lawn / will any part of the wedding festivities take place outside? I’d probably go with a chunky heel or wedge in that case…

ItsDdayalloveragain · 08/06/2026 13:37

The first dress is perfect for you! Just add great hair and nails. Fabulous earrings and clutch bag. For the evening a very light organza silvery grey pashmina.
enjoy the day knowing you look great!😊

Delphiniumandlupins · 08/06/2026 13:38

Your first dress is lovely. Definitely take it with you to buy a bra. Then shoulders back and enjoy yourself.

TeaAndToastedCrumpets · 08/06/2026 14:08

The dress in the OP looks lovely on you and would also work with a small hat/fascinator. If you're considering cobalt blue, I think this would suit you.

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 08/06/2026 15:37

You look very nice in that first dress. Good bra and accessories and you’re sorted.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 08/06/2026 16:06

The first dress is beautiful. I wear it with a white fascinator, shoes and handbag!

Lovernotafighter83 · 08/06/2026 17:15

First dress definitely but I’d pair it with matching fascinator and bag plus a bolero to make wow.

BuntyBeaufort · 07/06/2026 12:23

I don’t think you need to look any further. The dress suits you beautifully - right colour and fit.
As others have said, the right accessories will take it to a whole new level. What about a satin head band if you don’t want a hat (don’t blame you tbh)?

This.

Have a great day OP!

TRS20 · 08/06/2026 18:37

Your first dress is lovely. Good bra and maybe some sleek control underwear. Silver shoes and accessories, lovely jewellery. Enjoy the day

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions I really do appreciate them.
I am keeping an eye open for other dresses but think I'll probably stick with what I've got eg the 1st dress in my op.
Loving the suggestions to go bold with silver jewellery /silver throw passing and shoes.
I've seen a bag like on vinted, if I was to go with chunky silver necklace, etc do you think this would suit?
