The red stripe smock from the sale is also a fail, it is too big and way too long in m.

MsDastardley · 11/07/2026 14:28

@ScottishMouse it’s not what I expected. Sorry your order was disappointing. I’ve ordered the cropped denim trousers so will let you know how I get on with them.

ScottishMouse · 11/07/2026 15:36

I tried so the cropped denim trousers again @MsDastardley but they just don't work on me. They are fab though, I hope you like them.
I’m going to order the oat linen barrel leg trousers which I love but returned previously to because the fabric is quite sheer. I will just have to rethink underwear for days I wear them. I am also going to order the navy striped barrel leg trousers too, and the placket white shirt and the same one in denim (although that one isn’t going to be in stock until end of next week). I am moving on from the sale and concentrating on wardrobe gaps for neutral items rather than being tempted by bargains 😂

MsDastardley · 11/07/2026 15:47

Thanks @ScottishMouse 🤞🏻. I’ve got the linen barrel trousers in green and love them. I’ve also got the side pocket ones from last year, which I like a lot, but I feel those have too much fabric around stomach.

I do like the stripe barrel, but might have to rein it in! Just about to start a course of dental work and it’s going to be ££££

ScottishMouse · 11/07/2026 16:11

The linen barrel leg are just easy for this time of year @MsDastardley. I had them in navy a couple of years ago but sold them on as I had bought the wrong size. I will get a lot of wear out of the striped ones, less so out of the oat but they are a classic for summer. I also have the ones with the side pockets in navy check from last year, but I have hardly worn them. They just feel a little too pyjama like, or at least I cannot get the balance right of what to wear with them. I should try again or sell them on.

MsDastardley · 11/07/2026 16:24

@ScottishMouse maybe you should sell them on. I wore mine last week, but it was because I was having a lazy day on the sofa recovering from dental surgery. Definitely a pyjama vibe

OftenOrange · 11/07/2026 16:25

Further to the recommendations for the. Shorts jumpsuit in the sale, thankyou to those who confirmed that it needed to be tried.
It arrived this morning fand went straight on to go to Toast with returns. The sapphire blue is lovely and wearable because of the low neck.
Also happy with the simple linen vest top in navy , it is the same navy/as the navy linen balloon trousers which is brilliant .
@ScottishMouse I remember that post and. also saved it for a while. So true that thing about feeling like me.

Does anyone else have a problem with mirrors? I dress and check that I’m happy in my mirror here before leaving home , but when I catch sight in a shop mirror later , I’m often disappointed how nothing looks quite right ; maybe the clothes don’t actually fit well and they move around ….

ScottishMouse · 11/07/2026 17:26

Oh this happens to me often @OftenOrange . It’s very disconcerting.

MsDastardley · 11/07/2026 18:10

@OftenOrange I can empathise with that! Worst thing is catching sight of myself in a shop window and I don’t recognise myself. Don’t get me started on selfies. My daughter tells me there is a knack, but I haven’t learned it!

ScottishMouse · 11/07/2026 18:23

Does anyone have the white embroidered cotton voile shirt? I tried it in too large a size a few weeks back and it is so beautiful. Lovely sleeves and great lightweight fabric for warm weather. I felt like the neck was very high, this is usually just a me problem as I have a short neck (what would that live presenter whose name I have forgotten say!), but I note some reviews say the same. I wonder if it would be ok with a couple of buttons open, the fabric at the front though is a little stiff with the embroidered panel so I don’t know if it would sit easily like this. Anyone have experience of it?

CakeAndJazz · 11/07/2026 19:37

ScottishMouse · 11/07/2026 10:46

So many lovely parks and outdoor spaces @CakeAndJazz. It’s a very outdoor-feeling city, especially because of all the water. One of my fave outdoor spots is Assistens Cemetery - that sounds weird but it is lovely and more like a park. You can also see where Søren Kierkegaard and Hans Christian Andersen are buried.

Thanks again @ScottishMouse, will seek it out. I’ll just be in the city on this visit. If I do like it, I’d want to do another trip and venture out more (with relocating with my family there in mind, though the red tape that that requires post-Brexit makes me weep and quite possibly impossible).

Bimblesalong · 11/07/2026 21:42

@ScottishMouse thank you for sharing this advice from a wise poster. I think we’ve all had our moments with our sale buys (& other). These garments are special purchases. My mantra is “if in doubt, out!” I like the comment about feeling “you” in the garment too.

Countmeout · 12/07/2026 08:25

Email - sale ends tomorrow

faustina · 12/07/2026 08:49

@Countmeout - I'm looking at my basket now, wondering if I have the energy for another order

Countmeout · 12/07/2026 08:53

Of course you have @faustina 🤣🤣🤣🤣

ScallopShellWalk · 12/07/2026 08:57

I still like another shirt but I’m not going to buy any more. I’ve bought loads already. Feels a bit mad. I wish they had a permanent sale section.

IlovePond · 12/07/2026 09:20

I’ve not kept one thing I have ordered from this sale, which has to be a first.

I feel bad for sending so much stuff back but I really wasn’t being ‘fussy’ - the things I ordered just weren’t good in reality and there’s not one thing I could actually have kept and worn. Even the glasses were faulty! The exception was the grey skirt - lovely but too similar to my grey linen dress, (which I should have realised in advance).

Meanwhile, a few things I wish I had ordered, never came back into stock. I think I chose poorly in terms of what to focus on and will try to be more careful in future.

The one thing I actually wanted was the poncho. Of course, I didn’t order it, (it felt silly to do so in a heatwave), and it never came back into stock 🙈

I have my soy blue check trousers on today and I am really tickled by them. I dismissed these in the shop as looking like pjs but they really are not. They remind me of my aunt from Canada who would wear this check in trousers. I think these might be my best sale purchase. They truly are cool in the heat too. Just thought I’d mention in case anyone wanted to try them in the sale. They are lovely.

IlovePond · 12/07/2026 09:29

Thanks @ScallopShellWalk I tried the dress - loved the top half but the bottom part created a huge stiff triangular tent effect. I agree the material and pattern are lovely.

I can’t believe how quickly this thread has filled up. I will set up another one once we get closer to the end.

Sod it - I've ordered another three pairs of trousers to try. Has anyone ordered the pleated front cotton trousers in natural? They've been on my list for a bit, but I've never tried them. I'm struggling to find things that work for me right now, especially trousers. I've lost some weight and don't have much left that fits.

Primrosespaw · 12/07/2026 09:58

it has been interesting to read all of your sales stories as always. Final tally for me is…

Silk linen wrap tops in indigo and tent green. Really useful as little jackets over tank tops.
checked linen barrel trousers.
Green, peacock fluffy jumper
ecru kaftan nightdress
charcoal cotton canvas wrap skirt - tiny waist, had to have the buttons moved.
japanese indigo jacket. Have washed this before wear and similar denim to a pair of Alix’s that have not caused lots of transfer problems, although might do in this blistering heat.
Fracap ola sandals. In olive, absolutely gorgeous.

Thats me done until the next sale, although have my eye on the blueberry linen wrap skirt, which I have in fig and love. Really need to behave now though.

I went to Copenhagan for the first time last year and going again in August. Loved it. Louisiana museum of modern art is just fantastic and so worth the train ride. I will definitely go again. It is such a wonderful city and a new European favourite. I am hoping there is no airport chaos with the new system, it was ridiculous in Croatia in May. Have a great time all who are visiting Denmark!

Primrosespaw · 12/07/2026 10:34

I should of added…

I have washed the indigo silk linen wrap top on rinse in my washing machine and air dried on the line, it has turned out absolutely fine. I was almost put off by dry clean only, but there is usually a way around it.

ShadowViolet · 12/07/2026 10:44

I only got two items in the sale - the patch pocket cord jacket and the large check boiled wool scarf - both of which I'm really looking forward to wearing when it's a little less hot. I totally agree with @ScottishMouse's advice and am a firm believer that if I can't see how something fits into my life, it's really not worth holding onto.

The 'does this colour suit me' question is interesting and it's something I've pondered a lot over the years. In the end I decided that as I love colour, it'd make me miserable to restrict myself to 'best colours' only. So I'm just staying away from pastels, which definitely wash me out, and very bright colours, to avoid an unintended clown look. Apart from that, all a colour needs to do is appeal to me in some way.

Whowhatwerewolf · 12/07/2026 10:46

Those check trousers do look nice @ScallopShellWalk I had never noticed them before. If they come back in stock in a small I shall order but probably not much chance at this stage. I've also been stalking the pleat front green skirt but it never restocked in my size. Ho hum.
