Out of the blue I am being made redundant. I have managed to bag an interview for a senior role in an education charity. Director job title, working directly to the CEO. Charity does not work in schools and is more vocational education focused.

I have recently lost 8 stone and wasn't expecting to be job hunting so I don't have an interview outfit.

I need opinions please on these outfits. If they're not suitable I need to do an online shop now for delivery tomorrow or Saturday. I have six possibles so I will add 3 here and 3 in another comment:
Option 1: grey dress
Option 2: zig zag skirt
Option 3: snake print dress and lemon jacket

I think the grey dress looks the most professional

petitpasta · 28/05/2026 08:56

Next 3 options are all barrel trousers and blue blouse with

Option 4: cream jacket with fancy buttons (might be too wedding / evening?)
Option 5: plain cream jacket (but jacket is too big)
Option 6: blue jacket (think this might be too casual)

Out of the first 3 I like zigzag skirt option the best but all look great for interview. Good luck!!!

NellieElliePhant · 28/05/2026 08:56

I like the grey dress

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 28/05/2026 08:56

Out of these 3 the zig zag skirt I think!

good luck, and congrats on your weight loss!

GladEagle · 28/05/2026 08:56

Grey dress

vapourtrail · 28/05/2026 08:57

i also like the grey dress best. Good luck!

Grey dress, v professional, especially for senior role

I'm sticking with zigzag skirt. I think it looks smarter than the pants options

Izzasaurus · 28/05/2026 08:58

I think option 2 is lovely and I would feel very confident if I looked like you do in it! Option 1 would be perfectly nice provided it's not too warm but is quite low cut and gives me more evening vibes. Option 3 doesn't look as good.

Most importantly: massive congratulations on the interview, and on the weight loss, and good luck with everything!

Boopeedoop · 28/05/2026 08:59

Grey dress

ForAmpleMoose · 28/05/2026 09:00

Either option 2 or option 1. Whichever makes you feel the most fabulous and confident. Good luck!

TeaAndCake27 · 28/05/2026 09:01

Another vote for the grey dress. Good luck!!

FlossieKirkpatrick · 28/05/2026 09:02

option 2
you look great 😊

AImportantMermaid · 28/05/2026 09:05

The grey dress is most suitable for a director level role. I would wear that with a tan belt, tan shoes, and a tan leather handbag. Keep the makeup simple and wear a nice red lipstick or gloss.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/05/2026 09:05

Can you afford to get something new? If not then 1 is probably best.

If you can run to something new then my honest recommendation would be to do that. Some nicely cut trousers and a blouse. Not sure how tall you are but Hobbs do some great wide leg trousers and they will have blouses in the sale. You can get next day delivery to a Waitrose store via John Lewis.

Feel free to ignore me as I don’t think you won’t get the job based on what you are wearing I.e. none of these outfits create a bad impression and you look good in them. My industry is more formal than third sector which probably colours my view but none of these outfits would be right for an interview where I work.

Wreckinball · 28/05/2026 09:06

Grey dress is most professional- good luck!

WooWooWinnie · 28/05/2026 09:08

I love the zigzag skirt. Smart but shows some personality. I once read that it’s good to dress for interview how you would if you worked there - it helps the interviewers see you as someone who fits in to their organisation, because they can picture you there more easily.

WonderingWanda · 28/05/2026 09:10

I like the blazers with the top underneath but none of the skirts / trousers. Too much pattern and the trousers too casual. Could you get a plain skirt?

AllFours · 28/05/2026 09:12

The grey dress looks good, but it’s wrong for this time of year - too dark, too wintery. The zig zag skirt & blazer combo looks good and is much better for this season. Congrats on the interview & good luck! 💐

petitpasta · 28/05/2026 09:15

The comments on the trousers are interesting as they're from M&S's workwear range so I thought they'd be OK!

I like the grey dress best but when is the interview and what is the weather near you? You don’t want to be all hot a bothered before the interview starts and the office might not be any cooler than outside.

So I would go with grey dress is cool enough to be o, if not zigzag skirt and top, blazer optional depending on heat.

Too hot to wear tights so anti rub shorts/ tights/ pants are a must!

Favouritefruits · 28/05/2026 09:18

Zig zag skirt outfit, the grey dress will look strange in spring and hot weather.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 28/05/2026 09:18

Grey dress or zigzag skirt. Both look really nice, OP. Trouser combos all look a bit too casual for an interview. Good luck!

StretchingShantyJugg · 28/05/2026 09:18

The grey dress is perfect for that position.

Good luck!
