They are like 80 quid new, I judge you for paying this much for house slippers

I had my Birkenstocks for about 20 years before they fell apart. They went everywhere. I got my moneys worth many times over.

Judging other people for what they wear. All year round this is not a good look.

Theres no clothing industry without it. What people choose to put on is their own judgement. Whether that is, “can’t be arsed” or “show my arse because that’s the current trend” it’s their choice.

@Magicpaintbrush l was just going to post something similar. Those vest tops on men are hideous, aren’t they, especially when coupled with hairy armpits. They are often paired with shorts that are too short and tight, revealing a massive, hairy beer belly and horrible hairy legs. I don’t much like vest tops on women, either, as they nearly always seem to have at least one bra strap on show. Unfortunately, they are worn all too often by overweight, older women, who do not wear a supportive bra. Shorts are fine on young, slim people but should not be worn by the vast majority of the British population, who, even if they are slim, often have varicose veins and most of us do not have slender, toned legs. Finally, bikinis on anyone larger than size twelve should be banned completely. Flabby stomachs over bikini bottoms look dreadful. Before anyone accuses me of being judgmental, I hold myself to the same standards as l would not want to inflict the worst parts of my body on anyone else. I have kept myself comfortable today in a t-shirt, midaxi skirt and sandals.

Topless men is obviously heinous.

My less obvious ban is for block colours not styled properly. Particularly black 3/4 trousers with a lemon vest top (I would ban that shade of yellow altogether actually). Or with pastel pink. No idea why people think black goes with any old top . A basic red vest top with “smart” white shorts. It’s so jarring.

Neutrals with other neutrals, brights with other strong colours. Whew. Thank you.

Bright colours top and bottom? I genuinely want tips on how to do that without looking like Timmy Mallett.

Black and white aren't colours; they go with everything. Why is that wrong?

Yeah I have one of those ready to go (heard about them over on Sporner Corner) but you need a good two weeks without nice weather in order to go past the peeling stage. No way am I going to use a Footner peel while it's so hot, I'll have to wear closed shoes!

Also, and this is very disappointing, the results are epic initially, but you get the hard skin back in record time.

They don't peel for a whole 2 weeks, it might just take up to 2 weeks after application for peeling to start. Mine stared on Saturday, all done now.

The cream does help maintain them if you're not as lazy as me though!

A PP said no toes on show, so what should be worn with a long dress? I don't wear open toes atm as have persistent fungal infection 😣 so trainers it is.

I don't like those sandals that are like flip flops, but just have one strap up the middle of the foot. Too much foot on show.

You mean these? Me too!

It's not exactly that there's too much foot on show for me - bare feet are absolutely fine (if clean & presentable). It's the fact that there's a thin thong cutting between the big & second toe, which makes me feel nauseous - & then without a strap across the foot at the front, the toes seem to look weirdly naked, more so than if no sandals at all were worn.

Oh...actually, in most cases I don't actually think the arse cheeks are for men. I think they're really for fashion. Not so much "look at me men, do you think I'm sexy" so much as "look how daring, fashion forward and statement-y I am".

I think you’re right. Most fashion is women trying to out do each other to be cooler, sharper, richer, more attractive etc. Essentially ‘look at me, I’m a winner’. So getting your arse cheeks out is one sure fire way of achieving getting attention - approving or disapproving. And then when cheeky arse shorts aren’t ’unique’ enough, go for a thong under a mini skirt, and when that isn’t enough, just pants in Tescos. And eventually we arrive at Bianca Cessori.

EleanorMc67 · 25/05/2026 22:45

And versions of these thong mules (with less silly heels) are everywhere right now - & I hate them! This is at Copenhagen Fashion Week - look at that wee pink clawed toe hanging on for dear life!

I am wearing white wide leg trousers with a loose pale blue linen t.shirt and have had many compliments on both how comfortable and nice I look.

Oh God, wide leg trousers come a close second for me in the banning stakes! 😬

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2026 22:49

I expect the exposing sunburnt skin again is to do with the "I need to go red first before I get a tan" myth.

Strappy sundresses with a tee shirt underneath. Also strappy sundresses with bra straps showing

How are those of us who are larger than an A cup supposed to wear strappy sundresses then?

Auroragirl · 25/05/2026 22:50

Nude colour anything, bikinis swim suits leggings shorts . Make people look naked .

I hate Birkenstock Gizehs for this reason. The way it makes the foot look weird. Other Birkenstocks are fine.

Ha ha! Just as well we all have different tastes.
I am tall and slim and I think they look good on me.

ScruffMuffin · 25/05/2026 21:10

This.

Went to the beach today - am ginger and pale, so know full well there is no prospect of ever getting a tan. I kept slathering myself in factor 50, and when I was waiting for my husband to get back from a walk and help to apply cream to my back, I covered myself with a towel.

Around midday, this woman came and sat in front of me. She removed her shirt to reveal this horrific-looking sunburn, presumably from the weekend... then proceeded to expose it to the afternoon sun. She was sti there when we left at 4.

I have nothing against people who want to sunbathe or get a tan (or boil themselves like lobsters). I just kept thinking about how much it must hurt, and how ill she is probably going to be feeling later. No matter how careful I am, I occasionally miss an area with the factor 50, and have been burnt a few times - but never as badly or over such a large area as this. It really does hurt, and there's no way I'd have wanted to expose my sunburn to the midday sun. Even for somebody who tans eventually, surely no suntan is worth that amount of discomfort!

You would think doctors were keeping quiet about the connection between sunburn and melanoma wouldn't you!

VeganSteakAndFries · 25/05/2026 22:56

Men in flip flops. Just stop it.

Booboobagins · 25/05/2026 22:57

Urgh god this in spades! I hate feet so much, I love summer and have happily spent the day in my own garden with no shoes on but the minute I leave the house my feet are fully covered - I wish everyone else would do the same, feet are ugly 😂
also I don’t mind tops off or bikini tops but again, in your own gardens please!

Edited

Ugh - no! Feet encased in shoes or trainers in really hot weather? Gross!!

Maybe if they're canvas pumps or similar. But otherwise it brings to mind that painfully awkward scene in The Talented Mr Ripley, where Tom Ripley has nothing to wear on the beach except lime green trunks & brown brogues ...

They look like they are the most uncomfortable shoes ever!

gillefc82 · 25/05/2026 23:18

Ugly footwear: sandals, flip flops, trainers etc.

The number of posts I see on the S&B topic asking “Are these sandals/shoes ugly?” I always choose not to respond…..because the answer is always “YES” and in many cases “YES, they’re fooking hideous, the only way to style them is in the frigging bin!”

It genuinely makes me question if people have some kind of axe to grind against feet (either in general or their own specifically), as that’s the only reasonable explanation for subjecting your lower ambulatory extremities to having to sport such sartorial abominations!

Out of all the styles of clothing (or lack of) that people say they hate seeing in hot weather, this is the least inoffensive.

Basic bitch was a dismissive unpleasant phrase when a drunk Kate Moss used it with an air stewardess. It's still dismissive & unpleasant now.

LochLoughton · 25/05/2026 23:19

Vests on anyone, men or women.

Babies under 12 months get a free vest pass.

That's it.

Mapleandleaves · 25/05/2026 23:20

Men wearing t-shirt shirts. I absolutely cannot stand them. Wear a t-shirt or wear a shirt and roll the sleeves up, but t-shirt shirts should be banned. It's irrational, I know!
