I don't really want one of those teeny tiny phone bags but I also don't want a tote

Tbh I resent needing bags at all

What do men carry their stuff in when it's too hot for a coat actually?

Pockets. If your pockets are tiny, which women's pockets invariably are, get handy with a sewing needle and scrap fabric and make them bigger, pockets can be put into dresses too if you find a matching (or closely matching) fabric, just open a side seam and whack one in. It's a revalation not having to cart a bag around when it's boiling hot

Plenty still called bum bags, when you google.

Yep bumbags - never heard it called a hip bag.

Pockets, or for the rare time I have no pockets or I need my things to be more secure, I have a Honey & Toast half moon bag. Got a small conker (brown) colour one and a black one, they go with most things and look small and neat but can fit a fair amount in and the leather softens really beautifully. They come up on vinted from time to time a lot cheaper.

I think they're more commonly called hip bags now - I wear this to the rugby because it's so much more convenient to not have something on my shoulder. Not that I have had many reasons to stand up and wave my arms in the air recently very sadly...

In America they call them Fanny Packs. I've always known them as a Bumbag.

Pockets?

Most women's clothes don't have decent pockets and I have a hard enough time finding things I like, and fit without adding an extra complication in that it needs to have suitable pockets.

Plus unless you're not going far, you often need stuff that warrants taking a bag anyway.

Nobody worried about being mistaken for a drug dealer with all these little cross body bags ?

I have a Roka sling bag , no dealer round my neck of the woods with an ounce of street cred would use a Roka .

I have no style
I have no intention to deal

I love the secret secure pocket for my Oyster Card

I use a bum bag especially when out walking the dog. I don’t have a bough pockets for phone, keys, poo bags, treats etc. and I quite like have my arms free to hold the lead. If it’s a longer walk I take a back pack so I can take a bottle of water and if needed a jumper as well

I'm sure there are. I think hip bag/pack is a more modern term that is growing.

As long as it’s not called a ‘fanny pack’ (American lingo)

But for me - I have a smallish cross body bag and I’ve been tempted by the Uniqlo viral one

I have several of the Uniqlos, I’m a bit hooked on them - they’re the perfect size/shape for what I need to lug around most days, they leave my hands free, but what I also love is that they’re almost weightless. (I’m not on commission from Uniqlo btw 😄 - I genuinely just really like the bags.)

Having said that, I’ve been lusting after the Honey & Toast one posted upthread for ages, but can’t justify the cost, especially as I also have Mint Velvet and Radley half-moon bags - bags are a real weakness of mine. 😊

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 11:52

I’ve got a fantastic little multi-pocket bag with a long strap, green sort of canvas-y material. It was from the National Trust shop, but I’m old, so that’s OK. 🙂

Have you seen the little wrist purses on Temu and Shein, They just look like sweat bands but have a zip so you can stash lippy, keys and cash , many colours and cheap enough to pick up a few , to match clothes. very handy on holiday .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · Today 15:12

Thanks to this thread I have been eyeing up the Roka Chelsea BUT , I went upstairs to look at my bag collection and noticed I have a couple I'd forgotten about . So they've been sorted through , emptied and organised .
And I found a pair of Tweezerman tweezers in one bag Grin

SeeYouThroughACameraFlash · Today 15:38

I usually just put my phone and keys in my pocket or use a small cross body bag. I like Uniqlo and Ollie and Nic. I have a flipbelt for running and hiking.

BigGapMum · Today 15:38

A running belt, if it's just for phone and keys.

Bubblewrapart · Today 18:43

Haven't rtft but have you seen the lanyard style phone holders? Basically means you're 'wearing' your phone like a crossbody bag. Could get a phone case which can hold a few cards (or put them in your Google wallet?!) then minimise the number of keys (I just take a house key and a car key) which can also then attach then to the cord.

Honestly most of the time I leave everything in the car inc the phone and just take my car key. Living like the 90's!

DH uses his pockets but never has more than his phone, cards in the phone case and an absolute minimum number of keys. Most of my outfits don't have pockets which would handle that, so I use the lanyard and travel light.

When you start adding a water bottle, suncream, hat, sunglasses etc then sure you need a bag. I like a crossbody one
