What can I carry my keys and phone in now it's too hot for a coat??

I don't really want one of those teeny tiny phone bags but I also don't want a tote

Tbh I resent needing bags at all

What do men carry their stuff in when it's too hot for a coat actually?

I have a wrist chain thing on my phone which also has my keys on it. Like a giant key ring

Yetone · 22/05/2026 22:15

I don’t allow that.

I don't mind as he always gets me to put all my stuff in his rucksack on hikes so I don't have to carry one.

In your bra.

Sgtmajormummy · Yesterday 06:47

It’s the phone that limits the size of your bag.
Otherwise a runner’s wristlet has room for a key and some cash or a card.

I have a wide variety of keys and keep a pegboard near the front door. As I leave home I slip the ones I need that day onto my carabiner clip. It helps focus on what I have to do and stops me carrying unnecessary weight.

A carabiner clip on a belt loop? If you like the Victorian housekeeper/jailor look?

Asda sell a t-shirt with a breast pocket. I am wearing mine to do Parkrun this morning. Tesco leggings have/had a phone pocket. I know a woman who keeps her phone in her bra.

All the men I know use their pockets

except my dad - he puts his stuff in my mums handbag. I’m amazed they’ve managed to stay married for over 50 years!

My dad did that too.

Although now more men than women seem to carry handbags, I hope their female partners give them things to put in them.

When not in the office I live in M&S cargo pants or walking trousers, which have enough pockets for phone and keys at least. Like a PP, I hate carrying stuff around in my hands.

Uniglo cross body bag. Keys,purse,glasses/sunglasses, tissues, lip balm, powder compact with mirror, lipstick, touche eclat, sample size of moisturiser with SPF, comb, mints, small perfume atomiser, small pack of wet ones, plasters.travel toothpaste/tooth brush/mouth wash, pen and charger.

Do you really carry all that with you on a day out?

Try Zara jeans - they have big deep pockets.

Or wear cargo pants? I love the pockets on my M and S cargoes. The ones on the legs have buttons.

My BIL dropped his wallet out his back pocket didn’t even notice. We were in a park and I spotted it on the ground. Picked it up and said who’s lost a wallet? He still puts it in his back pocket.

Whatever happened to mens trousers with a small loop and button on the right back pocket to stop that? I distinctly remember my dad having trousers like that.

HelloPossible · Yesterday 09:36

Nike have some good looking cross body bags and waist packs. They are made with activities in mind so tend to be light and well designed. I am a big fan of their bags as a gym bag I bought from them got random compliments from people when I was travelling around ( metallic silver 80s style).

Just bought a cross body bag from them and it’s perfectly weighted to wear low and is a game changer as I was carrying too much stuff in my pockets and a bigger bag would be annoying.

That's a feature of traditional trousers but jeans don't have it.

I hate having things in ‘bottoms’ pockets as it makes me feel weighed down

so if no jacket I use a bag. Will try the Uniqlo one as it has so many positive comments here!

I saw a women have her phone and wallet stolen out of her backpack on the stairs at a tube station - well i didn't actually see it, I saw her backpack was open and tapped her in the should to tell her but it was too late. Carrying valuables in back pockets or backpacks is madness. And yes if there are no decent pockets, I am not buying.

Edited

Yes I carry a backpack when out and about. I only put water bottles snacks and waterproofs in the backpack. My purse and phone goes in my small cross body bag.

I remember my ex’s work trousers having them on.

I'm a handbag hater, but I like the roka willesden crossbody bag for casual things, and the pompom Mayfair cross body for slightly smarter things. Both hold an astonishing amount if required.

allthegoldicouldeat · Yesterday 13:04

Yet another vote for the Uniqlo cross body bag.

My husband gives his stuff to me to put in my bag!

Lol, I use my DP's pockets instead of a bag- me and your DH are lucky to have accommodating partners😁

BeardySchnauzer · Yesterday 13:19

In the interests of research I have just purchased the Uniqlo bag and I already love it. Lightweight, roomy and you can get it to sit wherever you’re happiest. Can already tell it will be fab for dog walking. And only £14. Might get it in another colour at this rate!!

A crossbody phone lanyard that has a separate wee purse to put your keys in (pictured) - I use one on cruises when I can’t be bothered with a handbag and need somewhere to keep my cruise card. Or if you need a wee bit more storage, a small crossbody like MiaTui Bali Sling or the more trad small square-shape crossbody Lottie.

I do like my cross body bag and mostly use that.

Otherwise, I will use a bum bag (you do know what that is) and I find they are pretty secure too.

Pockets. I know women's clothes are not renowned for having great pockets but I actually refuse to buy anything that doesn't. I am very fussy about that if I am shopping for new jeans, shorts, trousers, jackets and sometimes also cardigans. If it doesn't have good pockets rather than silly little ones then I don't buy.

I learned all of this when I had small children and dogs too. Having decent pockets was a must then and I have never looked back.

Queen Elizabeth's 'professional model' moment staff feared would 'bring the monarchy down'

The late Queen Elizabeth II posed with her hands in her pockets in 2019, a royal first. This picture was widely discussed amongst the monarch's staff at the time.

I’m a big fan of Mia Tui bags as well cheap and practical.
I have quite a few of them
