What can I carry my keys and phone in now it's too hot for a coat??

I don't really want one of those teeny tiny phone bags but I also don't want a tote

Tbh I resent needing bags at all

What do men carry their stuff in when it's too hot for a coat actually?

I’ve got my phone in a case with a crossbody lanyard. It’s because I use crutches so I can’t have it in my hand and don’t always have a pocket to put it in. You might be able to clip your keys to one of those.

When I go on holiday, and want something smarter but don’t want a big bag, I use this

compactmotif · 22/05/2026 21:14

Cargo trousers? They're usually the only women's trousers that have pockets big enough for a phone (whereas all men's trousers have decent pockets). I realise that this is the style board but cargo trousers appear to be in fashion again.

If I can't be bothered with a handbag, I have been known to use my Barking Bags dog walking bags even if the dog isn't coming out with me. Original bag for purse, drink bottle etc and Diddy bag for phone and keys. 😁

compactmotif · 22/05/2026 21:18

Or what about something like this? It's suede.

I have the Uniqlo one in red. They’re great bags. They’re only about £15, light as a feather, wash beautifully, robust as hell, can be work crossbody or over shoulder. Holds my phone, keys, purse, and a packet of wine gums if I fancy it. It may not be the height of fashion anymore but they’re so practical, versatile, and cheap, you can’t really go wrong.

Nobody worried about being mistaken for a drug dealer with all these little cross body bags ?

I feel like there are two kinds of people on this thread. Those poring over the classy, understated brown leather bags and people like us Grin I bought a Loungefly grass-type Pokemon bag, can’t wait for it to arrive!

Very glad to be one of those people.

Pockets?

Womens clothes not generally built with proper pockets. Its why we have bags.

I very rarely use a bag these days. I just carry my keys and phone in my hand or pockets.

I am in London and my phone would get snatched out of my hand if I did that.

I use a Uniqlo bag.

Yes and a cross over so it can't be ripped off your shoulder as happened right in front of me last year.

BeardySchnauzer · 22/05/2026 21:54

A few years back my friend had a bag ripped from her shoulder by a man who went on the pavement with his motorbike. The police told her there had been a spate of them and one woman with a cross body bag was seriously injured because she was dragged. So important to have your wits about you!

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 22/05/2026 21:54

Are people not worried about their phones being stolen from their back pockets anymore? I see so many women now walking around with the phone in the jeans back pocket.

When very young, it was drilled into me not to put purse/wallet in the back pocket as it’s so easy to pickpocket from.

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 22/05/2026 21:54

Most men use a crossbody or manbag from what I've seen......I prefer a backpack (( ancient kanken one of dds, nothing special ))
Other than that I just use my pockets depending on which jeans I'm wearing.

Tortoisel · 22/05/2026 21:58

Shove it down the bum of your leggings.

TheDenimPoet · 22/05/2026 22:05

They carry them in our bags! You can get tiny bags. If you want to carry things with you, and you don't want to wear things with pockets, you obviously have to carry a bag.

Yetone · 22/05/2026 22:15

cottagecheese1 · 22/05/2026 19:04

My husband gives his stuff to me to put in my bag!

I don’t allow that.

Hedgehogbrown · 22/05/2026 22:17

Have you worn mens trousers before? Their pockets are fucking massive. You can fit a phone and have loads of extra space. I only buy mens shorts now because I have small children and can't be fucked with everything dropping out around me. Or I buy women's things which have big pockets but of course they don't really exist because women are not allowed pockets. Even when clothes have pockets they are a third of the size of mens. It's a fucking travesty and women need to get more angry about it.

Mumandcarer80 · 22/05/2026 22:19

Small cross body bag I have a habit of putting my bag down and forgetting it.

JillThePlantKiller · 22/05/2026 22:20

Pockets are non negotiable for me. I don’t care how nice something is, if it doesn’t have pockets, I won’t buy it.

I can’t do bags - I end up hoiking half drunk water bottles and half a rainforest worth of receipts around and still put my keys and phone in my pockets.

My BIL dropped his wallet out his back pocket didn’t even notice. We were in a park and I spotted it on the ground. Picked it up and said who’s lost a wallet? He still puts it in his back pocket.

Pistachiocake · 22/05/2026 22:27

A lot more clothes have pockets now, so just buy whatever you prefer, be that wide leg, shorts, leggings, dresses-you should be able to get them all with pockets now. If you've got lots of things already that have no pockets, just wear shorts with pockets too.

I’ve recently stopped carrying a bag! It’s so liberating - keys in pocket and hold my phone and purse, although to be honest these days I don’t think we even need to carry a purse when everything is on our phones. I don’t miss any of the crap I used to lug around 😂

me too. wallet in one jeans pocket, keys in the other, phone in my hand.

TheChosenTwo · 22/05/2026 22:31

Mostly still making do with pockets just in clothes rather than coat/jacket.
But have a Uniqlo cross body for days where my pesky clothes don’t have pockets.
I loathe taking a bag anywhere, I’ve got a tendency to have a dodgy back anyway and even having the cross body annoys me so I try and go hands and bag free as much as possible - quite easy as I’m fortunately very low maintenance and also drive so often have emergency things I might need in there (tampons in my glove box and a lip balm!).

I saw a women have her phone and wallet stolen out of her backpack on the stairs at a tube station - well i didn't actually see it, I saw her backpack was open and tapped her in the should to tell her but it was too late. Carrying valuables in back pockets or backpacks is madness. And yes if there are no decent pockets, I am not buying.

Perrygreen · 22/05/2026 22:47

Uniqlo cross body bag. I can get water, umbrella, purse, phone, keys, flapjack, lip balm, spare contacts, tissues and ear bud case in mine.
