Striped trousers - nice or Andy Pandy?

Or do they just look like pyjamas?

I’ve bought the thin striped ones but am unsure.

There are different colours as well. Red green and brown with neutral background

Hmm last time I tried some my lovely DS called them “mummy’s clown trousers”. 😱. I never wore them again after that.

weareallqueens · 01/05/2026 20:09

I struggle with any printed trousers. I love them on other people but can’t get over the pyjama thing myself.

EspanaPorfavor · 01/05/2026 20:10

I bought some striped jeans and my kids thought they were pajamas but then some teenagers complimented me on my outfit so jury’s out!

canyon2000 · 01/05/2026 20:10

I think they are nice!

LastHotel · 01/05/2026 20:11

I think the ones with the wider stripe are easier to wear.

OneGiddyPombear · 01/05/2026 20:14

They both look like pyjamas to me, I basically have the first ones from a pyjama set from years ago.

CheeseWisely · 01/05/2026 20:15

My pyjamas are very similar to the pair on the right, so sadly it’s pyjamas for me, although I love the concept of striped trousers.

Charlenedickens · 01/05/2026 20:16

The small stripe one’s pyjamas, the thick stripe clown trousers.

tobee · 01/05/2026 20:17

Hmm. Yes. Now I’ve just got the Andy Pandy theme going round my head. Bit of a giveaway as to my age as well lol.

My adult dd is autistic and she’s quite likely to be somewhat direct!

it’s all about the styling. If you pair with an oversized t shirts it’s pjs. Fitted top, jewellery , jacket, large bag not pjs.

mustwashmycurtains · 01/05/2026 20:19

a couple of times recently I’ve genuinely had to double take to see if these were trousers or if the wearers have forgotten to get out of their PJs. It’s a no from me.

tobee · 01/05/2026 20:20

I also got plain white ones; similar shape so they might be more of a goer. And some with large blue polka dots. Could be the same verdict as the striped

Tell you what, I knew this question would get rapid responses!! 😉

Even though I agree I might have to be doing returns. I’ve lost 2 stone so wanted something to waft about in for summer!

They're both nice but yep, pyjamas. Soz.

Interestingly I’ve seen some fitted striped ones more like jeans so someone’s going all out for stripes and polka dots this season

I used to love Andy Pandy! I would not wear blue and white trousers except for pyjamas.

I’ve been pondering this too - I think you need be very thin and long to make it work

If the first pair are from M&S, I have them from last year and was worried about looking pyjama-y but they really don’t in real life.

I really like the second pair too but it depends on the fabric.

LameStrangeNameChange · 01/05/2026 23:35

They look like pyjamas to me. So do the checked ones. Just this morning I saw someone in loose checked trousers and i wasn’t sure if they were pyjamas or not.

I like striped and checked trousers in skinny or flares, but if they’re barrel or wide they just look like clown’s trousers or PJs.

HugoThatway · 01/05/2026 23:37

First reply nailed it.

Gowlett · 01/05/2026 23:49

I had a pair, aged 25. And I thought my bum looked fat in them. Bum is now 25 years older, so I don’t think I’d risk it again…

Gettingbysomehow · Yesterday 01:59

I like them but last time I wore some similar ones somebody said I looked like Sinbad the Sailor.

Silverbirchleaf · Yesterday 04:13

At a festival this weekend, and they’re being worn by everyone, of all ages. Plus every shop is stocking them.

Monty27 · Yesterday 04:19

I wear them in linen, striped, muted blue, green (sort of teal), white and peach. Understated and I can take them anywhere.
Love them.
