Wedding Guest Outfit - BOLD dress code

Wedding in August. Garden wedding, not going to be huge but one half is Irish.

I'm planning on wearing some gold block heels (no stilettos becuase of the garden).

The dress code is BOLD. Now, I'm more of a classic wedding guest dresser so this has thrown me a bit.

I'm 5'4'', blonde balayage hair, blue eyes (do not suit purples, yellows or orange). Late 30's, size 12-14 with a bit of a mum-tum.

I have ordered this jumpsuit but I don't love it - very heavy polyester which might not be great in August: https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/nc-x-lisou-pink-crepe-one-shoulder-jay-draped-jumpsuit-p255571pnk?_gl=15643js_upMQ.._gs*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgr_NBhDFARIsAHiUWr4LtMTBA6jYu3cfM27m_iEhgVf8WFMb3aHtg4MEN0RaQE522HBYUqkaAjP_EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&gbraid=0AAAAADQCJIUMRZZKn5E7qngOHFvwhROfq

There is also a part of me that's considering turning myself into a human disco ball:

I know some people hate dress codes, but they are such a fun couple that I really want to do the dress code proud and have some fun.

So would the Irish wear stuff more like evening wear, whereas the English are more likely to wear day dresses?

No. That's not it.
Irish weddings are just more... stylish? Theres a line and some cross it into tacky but on the whole everyone looks amazing.

Occasion wear but make it flattering and chic. Nothing too short but not dowdy. We aren't afraid of bright colours. It's fine to wear red or black or white with a pattern etc.

What the English would wear to a wedding we would wear to a christening. Make sense?

I’m reading ‘bold’ as bright and loud. Being glittery in a muted colour doesn’t quite fit the description for me. The jumpsuit is perfect with some metallic esska shoes perhaps

I read "bold" as something completely different and standout. A one shoulder jumpsuit isn't "bold" regardless of the colour. My go to for bold would be Klements, already posted, Kindred of Ireland or possibly Sister Jane

The Orla Dress | Kindred Of Ireland

The centrepiece of our AW24 collection, this stunning dress is crafted from beetled metallic gold linen, catching the light with every movement. Every element, from the shimmer of the fabric to the details, comes together to create a dress that is both...

Just wear a white lace long gown. Now that would be bold.

That's not what it means. Trust me. That's never what it means.

Yes that dress is probably high fashion but most of us realise that what looks cool on a runway looks ridiculous in real life.

No I don't trust you. The disco ball dress is bold. The Klements dress (which I have in 2 different patterns) is bold. The Kindred of Ireland dresses are bold.

The jumpsuit is not bold. It's a very ordinary wedding outfit.

I'm talking about Irish weddings here.

It just means fun over classy. Get very dressed up and wear a bit of colour (unless of course the bride and groom are known for dressing eccentrically).

I still can't see the disco ball dresses and I also didn't like the jumpsuit. Bold colour, bit of drama, but not nice.

I love the dress code and the jumpsuit x

Mrsmessyhairdontcare · 30/04/2026 11:12

LOVE LOVE LOVE the jumpsuit - fits the bill perfectly...

Winederlust · 30/04/2026 11:25

I think you'll see from the replies OP that the term 'bold' is quite subjective and I for one think that's a good thing as it gives you loads of options to play with!
Personally I'd view it as wearing something a bit different to what everyone else will be wearing. I can imagine you'll see plenty of colourful jumpsuits and bright floral frocks so for me something more along the lines of the sequins or playing with unusual shapes and detail would be the better way to go...but as long as you're comfortable in what you're wearing that's the main thing.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 30/04/2026 11:31

You’re very confident to wear something like any of those outfits!

Dress codes for weddings do my head in.
I always think - what are they gonna do- stand there with a clipboard, marking you out of 10??

But, like you say, you like the couple, so you don’t mind indulging them with this.

The jumpsuit looks great for a wedding.
Have fun!

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/04/2026 12:20

Whatever you decide, if you're paying more than fifty quid for it, make sure it's something you could get more wear out of.

RomeWasVisitedInADay · 30/04/2026 12:32

What an absolutely fantastic dress code! I wish I was coming!

I like your ASOS ones, what a fantastic opportunity to really go to town with something a bit out there, or even just a fabulous bold colour like your jumpsuit.

No specific suggestions off the top of my head but Wolf and Badger tend to have some pretty bold outfits, thought some a bit pricey: Women's Wedding Guest Dresses | Wolf & Badger - obviously you don't have to just look in the wedding guest section.

Have fun!

LadyShrek2k19 · 30/04/2026 12:56

Not sure if they've been mentioned before, but I LOVE Twisted Wunder dresses - really easy to wear, have a few of them and wear them for weddings, but also good for dressing down.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 30/04/2026 13:32

I really like that dress. Some polyester but at least below 50%, so might be doable in summer…

I wouldn’t call this “bold” but it’s really lovely!

soontobeamama · 30/04/2026 13:33

The jumpsuit is amazing and fits the brief, see how you feel once it is on.

If you are still not sure, keep looking.

I think the jumpsuit would be more suitable than the sequinned dresses you have linked (to me they are more evening dress or for inside, I think you would feel warmer in them too).

RascalQueen · 30/04/2026 06:39

Oh and in response to this one - Irish weddings that I’ve been to tend to be formal/dressy than a typical English garden wedding (half my family is Irish so this has just been my experience of weddings in Ireland)

A dress code for a wedding is a suggestion not mandatory. They’re not going to turn you away if wear something they don’t consider as bold. Wear something you already have and like wearing.

But where’s the fun in that?!

OP sounds excited to be shopping for something out of the ordinary and I’m all for it.

eatreadsleeprepeat · 30/04/2026 14:21

I would have read bold as referring to bold colours not style.

Sparkletastic · 30/04/2026 14:27

The Farm Rio suggestion is absolutely gorgeous. I think the jumpsuit will be sweaty and you’ll get into a panic every time you need to go to the loo. The sequins look crunchy and uncomfortable.

JanBlues2026 · 30/04/2026 15:24

I think you are on the right lines with the pink jumpsuit, the dresses are lovely but aren’t bold in colour

bluecloudme · 30/04/2026 15:52

GU24Mum · 29/04/2026 19:33

I’d wear what you want and say that you decided to be bold and ignore the dress code!

Love this!!!

I loathe dress codes for weddings. Unless it was somebody REALLY close I’d be away or something.

FeliciaFancybottom · 30/04/2026 16:22

The gold Kindred dress is awful, she looks like a Christmas cracker and the bad joke is the dress itself.
