Summery clothing without exposing legs

PineappleAndGrapefruitLilt · 25/04/2026 09:05

Hi I'm looking for ideas for lower half clothing during the warmer days in summer. Everyone seems to get the shorts out here when the weather gets to 20 degrees but because of a skin condition, I prefer to cover up my legs.

I tend to wear leggings and longer tops but I'm fed up with that, does anyone have any good suggestions?

Tbh I applaud people who have the guts to wear shorts and I wish that was me but unfortunately all the not-so-complimentary comments I've had over the years about my legs have destroyed my confidence

I find shorts very unflattering. So live in maxi skirts like this.

Another vite for TU linen mix. I recently got a fab purple pair (even though they said blue, they are like a cadbury purple!!). Also had luck with matalan harem pants. Loose/wide leg full length keep me coolest. As a fair skinned fat person, shorts are not my friend. I haven't exposed my bare legs since I was a teenager nearly 30 years ago and am not about to start now. I also don't wear dresses or skirts without tights.

I disagree, let's not buy into the misogyny of women's clothing please. They should (and do) wear what they're comfortable in.

Thank you. I put shorts on today and nearly went back and changed. Then thought, no. I'm wearing what I want.
Judges can sod off.

I've got a lovely midi skirt from Apricot. Next have a few to choose from.

H and M. I just picked a random shop. I got similar from Uniqlo as they do petite lengths too.

JustBack · 27/04/2026 18:54

Uniqlo. 100% cotton and in regular, short and tall lengths.

I also got a lovely comfy dress after posting on here I think last year or so.

Kit and Kaboodle. Some are not my thing, I don't like garish colours and pattern but there's some nice linen ones ..with pockets!

Kit and Kaboodle have gone into administration i think.

People( which includes men) can wear whatever they like of course. However that does not mean that other people can't have opinions about what they look like in said clothing.

I can be as judgemental as I like about anything I want, which includes clothing as well as other things. It doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to the person, because I would never say it to them. Do you seriously think that when I see a teenage girl with her buttocks hanging out of her too short shorts I say what I think of her outfit? That would make me appear insane! Do you think that when I see a fat woman( I'm fat and own it so I can call people fat) in thin beige skintight shorts I shout out that there are plenty of other much more flattering choices? Of course not!

I really don't believe that people don't judge other people's appearances, of course they do, all the time. I fully expect that people would judge me for being fat, for having grey hair or numerous other things. But because I don't know about their judgement I don't give a flying fuck and even if I did know I couldn't care less. I presume other people feel the same way so I really don't know why people fuss so much about someone thinking that someone else doesn't look great in their clothes, when after all, what looks good to someone, looks awful to someone else.

No way! I didn't know that. Site looks normal.

Def check out Snag they have some cooling tights and cropped tights, the latter I like to wear under a dress.

This was on another MN thread a few weeks ago - https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/2180105/uk-clothes-business-administration but I just googled and it looks like the original owners have left and someone else has taken on the business. Lots of poor recent reviews though.

Branleuse · 27/04/2026 22:13

I like the cuffed pants from fat face and alexa trousers from Lucy and yak as summer trousers

Peony1985 · 27/04/2026 22:29

@ExOptimist of course we are all judgey.
But it’s also true that fashion isn’t truth.
Why do men rarely wear white floaty trousers to cover their bad legs? Is it because white and floaty is impractical?

Look how dated and aging stiletto’s seem when once they were considered very enhancing.
I am appalled by up the crack bikini bottoms however toned or wobbly the arse is. But, that’s because it’s the sexualised nature of swimwear rather than looking at the rear end itself.
Shorts are just practical summer wear. Not everything has to be about showing off body parts.

Sequentino · 27/04/2026 22:31

Maxi / Midi dress would be good contender here.
There are dresses with splits with zipper or buttons so, when you want to expose your legs, That will be another options.

Sadly you can't see the misogyny in your posts, and I really can't be bothered.

Nickelouch · 28/04/2026 10:14

Long bias cut skirts with a vest top is my summer go-to. Loads in Zara and often Tesco.

I Like wide loose trousers but hard no to cropped trousers, I’d feel like my MiL.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 29/04/2026 00:31

Harem and balloon trousers make me think of "jobby catchers", the cuffed tracksuit bottoms worn by young men who style them with a matching zipped tracksuit jacket and a baseball cap.

French tourists turned away from Edinburgh pub for wearing 'jobby catchers'

The man's black Kappa tracksuit bottoms were deemed 'inappropriate'.

Palazzo style trews in a light fabric might work. I have a few pairs myself, in a cotton/ linen blend.

I also have some maxi skirts. They're nice because they let a little breeze blow in around you.

BeardofHagrid · 29/04/2026 07:41

I was looking at these trousers yesterday. It’s a shame they aren’t 100% cotton or linen but I really like them

Daftypants · 29/04/2026 20:45

I wear linen trousers, tapered or wide/ straight leg ( not too wide and flappy )
Also wear midaxi length dresses which mostly cover my legs .
my legs are a nice length and shape but I have veins and a couple of varicose veins so I don’t want to show bare legs .
in winter I do wear shorter dresses with Opaque tights

CatA27 · 02/05/2026 18:02

I have always worn wide leg palazzo pants through the summer, stops chub rub but are lovely and cool 😍
