Summery clothing without exposing legs

PineappleAndGrapefruitLilt · 25/04/2026 09:05

Hi I'm looking for ideas for lower half clothing during the warmer days in summer. Everyone seems to get the shorts out here when the weather gets to 20 degrees but because of a skin condition, I prefer to cover up my legs.

I tend to wear leggings and longer tops but I'm fed up with that, does anyone have any good suggestions?

Thanks all, you've given me some great ideas. Good to hear Tu have some nice things in, they've been a bit of a go-to for me.

I never show my legs either as i have lots of thread veins. It’s rubbish! I wear light maxi skirts and dresses, long linen trousers or light jeans.

I've got ugly veins so in hot weather (over 25, not over 20) I wear long dresses or if it's a bit cooler a shorter/midi dress with flesh coloured tights. I'm now thinking about getting my veins lasered though so I don't have to worry about it.

I have a collection of brightly coloured tights that I wear under shorts and dresses.
I have a red birth mark that takes up most of one thigh, am very pale and hate it when the backs of my knees get sweaty

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/04/2026 10:10

It was #tapsaff here yesterday with the sun out - even though it was only about 11 degrees. People get over-excited!

PP have given good suggestions, but just to add the Cos barrel leg trousers to the mix too. I do like dresses/skirts, but these are fab, and I personally quite enjoy the pj style stripy linen pant look, especially with a graphic t-shirt.

I wear M and S pure cotton elasticated leg trousers in white. I hate linen. It creases so badly. These trousers are cool wideish without being a ship in full sale and super comfortable. Tu clothing also has some really nice stuff this year. I bought their orange pattern handkerchief wide leg trousers because I love orange.
I just want to stay cool. No heavy fabrics.

Not elasticate leg!!!! Elasticated waist 😂

Gettingbysomehow · 25/04/2026 10:16

I love balloon trousers and harem pants.

Aparecium · 25/04/2026 10:23

I keep an eye out for maxi skirts, maxi dresses, and loose trousers, all in natural fabrics. I like linen and am willing to iron, but it looks dreadful within a few minutes. Linen-viscose mix is a good compromise. Also lighter and cheaper than pure linen.

I have found all sorts of surprises n unexpected shops, such as long cotton dresses in Sainsbury’s, ditto linen-viscose trousers in gorgeous colours, and a maxi skirt in a really nice, heavy, cotton jersey in Mountain Warehouse. Just keep an eye open and look at everything.

@Gwenhwyfar I’ve had mine lasered. It cost hundreds of pounds and didn’t work. Lasers aren’t that effective for leg veins. I’ve also had sclerotherapy-again useless. I now just cover up with Sally Hansen leg make up if I’m ever showing my legs. It’s amazing!

I've had friends who've done. I presumed they could back, but then just thought you had to do it again every year a bit like Botox?

I never understand why people wear shorts when it gets hot ? They restrict around the waist and crotch when you need fresh air in those areas 😂 Stick to a dress.

Thighs don't usually rub together and chafe in shorts!

Yes it could be batic temperatures and the shorts are still out! Saying that, I know people who wear shorts in winter, even when it's snowing

I only wear shorts when it hits 30 degrees, so I know what you mean!

Otherwise, I wear chinos, wide legged trousers, culottes or 3/4 length cropped trousers.

Or how about a long floaty skirt? I can't wear them due to chub rub.

You can buy chub rub shorts. Long knickers also work.

@mcmuffin22 those look nice.

A tip for long links is to delete everything from the ? mark onwards - so your link would become:
https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/trousers/cuffed-trousers/black-tapered-balloon-parachute-trousers/p/948776301

Friends don't send friends the tracking data part of the link, which is the stuff after the ? in this instance.

dudsville · 25/04/2026 11:13

I used to not wear dresses, then I came across a style I love, so comfortable. Linen, midi oversized. I also have some loose or wide leg linen trousers. This fabric is good for keeping you covered but really allowing any breeze to come through the fabric.

RampantIvy · 25/04/2026 11:14

I have a couple of pairs of linen/viscose mix trousers. They don't crease anything like as badly as linen yet are cool and comfortable. In fact, I bought this pair from Next yesterday.

Thighs don't usually rub together and chafe in shorts!

Shorts look bad on 99% of people. Linen trousers too - crumpled , often see through if a light colour and show that bum bit which is ugly if too tight.

I search online, Next, Asda, Matalan, TU etc from April for wide leg, Co-Ords. I usually find around four sets. I don't mind midi dresses, so usually find enough adding in Yumi and Roman.

Summerhillsquare · 25/04/2026 13:47

Some nice coords in Zara, cool and stylish.

catsaremyfavoirite · 25/04/2026 13:50

Linen trousers. Not all of them crease, I have some from M&S that are fine.

Like the look of these. I keep buying linen then remember I hate the creases and how hard it is to keep them crease free!

ToadRage · 25/04/2026 14:09

I tend to wear pretty summer dresses with leggings. I am not confident about my legs and I manage not to get too hot. Do love my shorts but am thinking about trying out some light trousers.
