Are these dresses suitable for a London wedding guest, brown or red?

Are these dresses ok for wedding guest attire, or a bit dull!? And brown or red? 🙏
The wedding, which is soon, is an afternoon and evening in London. Not super formal.

I just never know what to wear for events anymore, and lack confidence - and cash.

I LOVE the brown dress. It is so flattering and goes so well with your hair colour. Really like the classic front and snazzy back! Perfect for the occasion imo.

AgingLikeGazpacho · 24/04/2026 21:36

I think either would be fine, although it seems that neither is fitting you properly around the bust and waist. Have you tried a smaller size?

IamEarthymama · 24/04/2026 21:37

The brown dress is lovely!
It really suits you.

Hannaseed · 24/04/2026 21:37

Do people in London have a different dress code? The brown one is a bit dull.

Doggymummar · 24/04/2026 21:38

Look like work dresses so if it's informal I'm sure they'll be fine

mondaytosunday · 24/04/2026 21:45

The red doesn’t fit you and is too casual. The brown is ok.

MyBigBoots · 24/04/2026 21:49

They both look good. The brown one looks really lovely with your hair colour.

benten54 · 24/04/2026 21:50

Both are a bit drab and the red one is dowdy. The brown one at a push if they are the only options but it doesn’t fit you on the top.

Katjolo · 24/04/2026 21:53

Very informal

PuppyMonkey · 24/04/2026 21:55

London?

NorthFacingGardener · 24/04/2026 21:56

The brown one is really nice and definitely wedding appropriate with a block heel or something, it really suits you.
The red one does feel a bit more casual summer holiday vibe.

Tulipvase · 24/04/2026 21:56

I think the brown one is better but is too big for you.

Haha, no! And I didn't actually choose the thread title, it was mumsnet 😆

Brown is better, but it looks awful
in photos.

Thatsnotmynamee · 24/04/2026 22:33

I think both are not quite right :/

Brown looks awful in photos? 😱

The red is too big in the bodice. Size down, or alteration?

The brown is oddly a bit stark. Do you have some jewellery and good accessories?

Peclet · 24/04/2026 22:38

Ythe red one is bad. About 2 sizes 2 big. Bad.

brown is great colour on you and the back is nice but it’s too big at the bust.

what’s your budget. Nobody’s child has some nice dresses.

Woodfiresareamazing2 · 24/04/2026 22:42

Thatsnotmynamee · 24/04/2026 22:33

I would agree.

Of the two, the brown one is much better.
The red one is, I'm sorry to say, pretty awful, and doesn't fit you at all.

What's your budget? And what size are you?

Teacakeswithmeltedbutter · 24/04/2026 22:46

Not answering your question, I know, but you have the most amazing hair colour OP! I'd love hair that thick and that colour 😊

Thatsnotmynamee · 24/04/2026 23:32

What would people suggest then? Yeah, I love Nobody's Child - although sometimes feel a bit drowned by their dresses.

A bit dull? Very dull. The red is much nicer.

Fooledaroundandfellinlove · Yesterday 00:34

Red is definitely not right, brown is better but looks too big. There’s another thread about a London wedding that has some great suggestions on.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 01:01

The red one is too much of a picnic frock.

The brown one is nicer.

ElixirOfLife · Yesterday 04:44

The brown one by far. Might be the shape that makes it lmore appropriate for a wedding. The red one has no shape.
