Are these dresses suitable for a London wedding guest, brown or red?

Are these dresses ok for wedding guest attire, or a bit dull!? And brown or red? 🙏
The wedding, which is soon, is an afternoon and evening in London. Not super formal.

I just never know what to wear for events anymore, and lack confidence - and cash.

Neither fit properly and neither look very festive/weddingy

JennyForeigner · Yesterday 06:15

I like the brown but if you have to buy the right accessories to make it wedding-ey, including shoes, it would be cheaper to buy a new dress.

Formal stuff is hard to sell on vinted IMHO, so often very good value.

Bluegreenbird · Yesterday 06:21

Bit dull but definitely the brown and with that figure and hair colour you’ll look lovely.

C080889 · Yesterday 06:29

Vinted have some amazingly priced Never Fully Dressed dresses

Beachwalker66 · Yesterday 06:31

The brown is more appropriate I think.

Both are a bit drab and the red one is dowdy. The brown one at a push if they are the only options but it doesn’t fit you on the top.

I agree.

Brown with gold jewellery/ accessories. V good

Netaporter · Yesterday 06:36

@Thatsnotmynamee You definitely suit brown as a colour, but the dress you’ve chosen is not quite the right tone I think. I nearly bought my DD this dress last week - not too expensive and would be a more flattering fit for your figure. I’d add a blazer over the top for the afternoon and then you’re ready to go for the evening. I’d go with gold accessories and shoes. Zara also had some lovely bags - this one was particularly nice in real life.

They are not too informal, anything from Nobody's Child in that vein is totally wedding appropriate when ironed and worn work smart shoes and jewellery. When you find the one that suits and fits you it will look lovely. You don't have to be in satin or a polyester blazer. I disagree they are 'work' dresses - I might wear them to work on a warm day when everyone is in a summer mood.

Look like work dresses so if it's informal I'm sure they'll be fine

The brown dress is a halterneck with open back. It's not a work dress

@Thatsnotmynamee

Neither of these dresses are the one-as I think you may have realised from comments above.

People willl post loads of links but hard to tell what you want-do you have a colour/style preference?
You are obviously in a changing room so are looking to buy-what is your budget?
We will help sort you out!!
What if anything from here appeals?

I think the red one is nicer, but both are OK. Think about other instances where you could wear them, don't buy for single or low use.

Daffodilsinthespring · Yesterday 07:14

The brown one is lovely. The red one is too big and boring.

Mummadeze · Yesterday 07:46

I think you can dress up the brown one with gold shoes and jewellery and it looks good. I would put some fake tan on though if it were me in that dress.

CurlsLDN · Yesterday 07:46

I agree with others, they are too big and fit would help a lot.

have a look at hope & ivy, they have lots of stunning dresses in their sale under £100,
https://hopeandivy.co.uk/collections/sale

for instance I think either of these would look gorgeous with your colouring and suitable for the wedding you’ve described

Thanks all! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by choice and indecision. I have small kids and find it hard to find time to go shopping alone - am going to try again tomorrow. I just don't really know where to start, as I'll need to buy shoes and bag too, and then maybe a bloody jacket as well... More suggestions welcome, it's better than me searching!

Really, unless you live in Mayfair and have a budget to match, you’re much better off shopping online. Far better range of options beyond your local High S / shopping mall. You need to browse with a tape measure to hand, and pay attention to fabric content and all the size / measurement guidance for each individual item on any website.

(If you’ll forgive me, you’re not finding in person shopping helpful - the red dress is very clearly too big.)

You can browse online once your children are asleep - so you’ll have time to concentrate properly.

EscapadeVelocity · Yesterday 09:37

What is your approximate dress size? (Maybe you’re not entirely sure?)

What is your maximum budget for a wedding outfit? (Are you sure you don’t already have suitable shoes or a bag? Could you borrow from anyone?

What’s the wedding context? Inside / outside? How soon?

Very happy to help, but need an idea of budget!! Also what size are you?
I might even have something in my Vinted stash that would work!

PortSalutPlease · Yesterday 10:00

you could do so much better - neither are very nice and they don’t seem to fit you very exactly.

Cricketashes · Yesterday 10:03

They are dull but also they don't fit you. Have you lost weight and are dressing for a new body size? I feel like you don't know your clothes size.

Teddleshon1 · Yesterday 10:03

I prefer the brown but think you can do better for a wedding - you have a fantastic figure.

somburd · Yesterday 10:07

The brown is better but it doesn't fit you on the bust.

WednesdaysChild73 · Yesterday 10:08

The red one, no. The brown one definitely has potential with the right accessories. If I’m trying to get an outfit and I’ve mentioned it on here before use chat GPT.

PurpleAndYellowIris · Yesterday 10:09

You look too good to be swamped in them drab dresses
you’ve got great figure and lovely hair
