Can’t afford a whole new routine but would like to introduce something - maybe a serum - to up my skincare game a bit.

Cerave foaming oil face wash.
Fantastic stuff.

WingBingo · 25/04/2026 08:28

Retinol, hands down.

MumzSuki · 25/04/2026 09:32

For people recommending retinol can you name your product? Is it retinol or retinal? I’m heard good things about Medik8 Crystal Retinal; intending to start with that but would like to hear other recommendations.

Where do you purchase your tretinoin from please? Is it from an online dermatologist? I have melasma and have read that Tret and hydroquinine might be a good combination?

As above - Dermatica, prescription only, managed by the dermatologists so that strength of the tret is built up slowly. It can be quite fierce.

GarlicFind · 25/04/2026 12:10

If literally only one product - olive oil. In fact, it was my only skincare product while I was very poor. Cleanse with it, using a flannel and hot water. That's usually enough but, if your skin's very dry, apply a little bit more and wipe off any excess after ten minutes.

100% natural and, even at over £8 a litre, it's hundreds of times cheaper than packaged skincare products.

SoapCollector · 25/04/2026 12:30

For me it would be coconut oil, I use it on my curly hair. As a cleanser, body and face moisturiser, lip balm, hand balm. Great space saver when traveling too.

Ceramides. Have really helped my 56 year old smokers skin feel and look sooo much softer and better

Lordofmyflies · 25/04/2026 18:03

Skin+Me Tret prescription cream. The dermatologist mixes it with other skincare products and it is dispatched monthly. Definitely makes a difference.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/04/2026 18:07

Sunday riley ceo vit c serum. My skin's too sensitive for ret/tret this is the onky thing that makes a difference that I can tolerate.

LOCOJDS · 25/04/2026 18:18

Protect and perfect No.7

Bokeitup · 22/04/2026 07:56

It goes up to 20.

That's retinal not retinol.

For some people! Ridiculous to make such a sweeping statement!

I couldn’t get in with tret at all. Never got past the dry peeling stage even after nearly a year.

Do you think this would help my neck and decolletage area? I'm in my 50s

Yes. I am using it every night at the moment and my skin drinks it up and looks less dry the next day. I put it on my face, neck and décolletage. Another moisturiser I like to use at night is Weleda Skin Food. The one in the tube not the facial pots. My skin always feels and looks better the next day with either of these.

Choux · 25/04/2026 22:32

Carpaccia · 24/04/2026 18:36

I think so. I've switched to the newer version, the Fermented Rosehip Seed Oil. I think it's slightly more firming, but not organic, like the original.

I also love Weleda Skin Food Night cream, they seem to work well together.

Have just read the full thread and see you are my skincare twin as we both love the same two products. What eye cream do you like? Am currently using ROC Multi Correxion in a blue tube but am open to other suggestions!

Wallaroo21 · 27/04/2026 10:04

Off the back of this thread I’ve introduced vitamin c serum and daily facial spf. I’ve recently turned 33 and suddenly seem to be noticing all my imperfections for the first time. I’ve recently started using caffeine eye cream in the morning, retinol in the evenings alternatively and retinol eye cream. Alongside regular cleansing balm, face wash and evening moisturiser. Hopefully this helps a bit!

AAT86 · 27/04/2026 19:52

Dermatica serum! It has tretinoin, retinol, & something else in and it completely changed my skin

Frumpitydoo · 27/04/2026 19:56

Palmer's Cocoa Butter oil and body lotion and the solid cream in pots. Just the best there is and multitasking.

PuzzledWatermelon · 27/04/2026 20:43

I haven’t read the full thread but I swear by Medik8 Crystal Retinal. I’m on my third tube and will continue using this.

I also use SPF which has Vit C in it.
There are other skincare products (ingredients I use) which you may wish to consider: peptides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Plenty of good quality sleep and drink water (I drink 2 to 3 litres per day, 3 litres on the days I exercise)

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 27/04/2026 21:41

Not sure if this counts or is a proper product but the Nothora balm is amazing! Almost ran out and will repurchase. Makes my skin look glowy and alive. Magic. 🪄

I use the ordinary one. Forget the strength. Very good and reasonable.

I use Cicaplast as the final "sandwich" to my Tret application at bedtime. It really helps avoid the dryness that Tret can cause.

If you're a fan of the brand, I'd recommend La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Serum after morning cleansing, followed by the Hyalu B5 suractivee face cream with SPF 30.

I think I used this when a beautician waxed my eyebrows but forget to ask if I used retinol and it cut and scabbed over. I was furious! But Cicaplast helped a lot. No scarring.

Do you think this would help my neck and decolletage area? I'm in my 50s

Yes.

RudolphTheReindeer · 27/04/2026 22:01

I was bought a No7 face oil and that definitely gives me a glow no other products I've tried does.

Dizzydrizzy · 27/04/2026 22:12

inkey list retinal 0.2 is mine

Allseeingallknowing · 27/04/2026 22:24

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/04/2026 00:09

Astral cream.
Bog-standard and cheap.
I'm nearly 70 and I swear by it; so does Joanna Lumley.

Amongst other things!
