Can’t afford a whole new routine but would like to introduce something - maybe a serum - to up my skincare game a bit.

I only use E45.

Other skin care is baby soap and baby head to toe body wash and vaseline, thats it.

Roc retinol correction night serum capsules. They make such a difference to my skin, it feels so smooth and plump the next morning.

St Ives Apricot scrub. I have tried different products over the years but always return to my Apricot scrub. In my teens I swore by Witch wipes but not used them in years. I like Johnsons or Soap and Glory wipes now.

Whowhenwhatwear · 22/04/2026 20:37

Spf for sure.

Have just started with vitamin c so hoping to seem so brightening, skin tone evening results!

TheLette · 22/04/2026 20:39

Medik8 crystal retinal, it has made a massive difference to my skin.

Agree with this. I use a cheap £2 moisturiser on my skin, no fancy skincare. I'm mid 40s and don't have one wrinkle. I drink so much water, always have done. Could be that, who knows

@Cricketashes would you mind sharing which moisturizer you use? And any skincare routine tips please 🙂

For some people! Ridiculous to make such a sweeping statement!

What the Tret or the SPF?

Everyone is saying what they think is the best product for skincare. This is the one for me and many, many other people. And dermatologists...

So bog off with your outrage, you drama llama.

I just use the Clean &Clear dual action moisturiser. No other skin care tips to share I'm afraid!

Elmis cleansing balm. I bought a 200g pot at the beginning of November use twice a day and it is just getting to the end. I only use a dot smaller than my little finger nail. Warm between my hands.

Profhilo amazing but costly

CreepingCrone · 23/04/2026 22:02

I've always had eczema, which was especially bad in my teens. It flares up in Spring and Winter with central heating. I used to really like Olay 7 signs of ageing moisturiser, but ended up buying the Q10 one from Aldi. Omg! I love it. When my skin is dry, I top off 5he Q10 cream with Nursem Caring Skin Fix, which is a hand cream supposedly. In combination, brilliant stuff. A matt base for make up, and makes my skin feel great!

My absolute favourite product is the serum by RockRoseBeauty. It’s made in Hastings with all natural products and feels so divine on my skin. Lots of my friends are now using it as it is so good.

Unbelievably painful and had zero results on my skin.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/04/2026 00:09

Astral cream.
Bog-standard and cheap.
I'm nearly 70 and I swear by it; so does Joanna Lumley.

MyJustCat · 24/04/2026 00:40

Science tells us that only tret and sunscreen works, but I swear by Nivea Creme - the one in the blue tin.

magiciansgirlonce · 24/04/2026 00:47

I avoid the sun as it makes me feel ill..I still have managed to get a sun skin problem on my leg so sun block you can get face sun block is your best beauty friend.

Snippit · 24/04/2026 00:58

I use Rosehip oil from The Ordinary, it’s so good. My skin looks and feels lovely with a glow. It’s packed full of goodness and pretty cheap 🤗

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume, apply before bed as a night mask of sorts. Have never ONCE woke up and my skin not looked 10x better with this stuff. Amazing with sunburn too.
I am very careful with my skin barrier, so im looking at all these other suggestions with interest - if anyone whose skin gets on really well with La Roche Posay Cicaplast or Effaclar, and has found any other serums etc that work for their skin, im all ears!

I use Clinique redness solutions range of products.
However I had a friend to stay with me for a week and noticed she used Estée Lauder Night repair serum .
And while her skin did age quickly earlier on in her life , it seemed like this had temporarily stopped that 😳
I bought myself a very small trial size , used it at night after my cleansing but before my moisturiser .
i saw a difference within a couple of weeks .
the other thing is I wear spf 50 sunscreen daily

SpainToday · 24/04/2026 07:57

Clarins Double Serum - I now have soft, smooth skin again and get lots of compliments (I am in my 50s)

Wallaroo21 · 24/04/2026 09:02

Interested in all the vitamin c suggestions. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth it for the vitamin c or more of the suncream element? GARNIER VITAMIN C DAILY UV BRIGHTENING FLUID INVISIBLE SPF 50+ 40ML

GameOfJones · 22/04/2026 10:16

The only answer really is a proper SPF every day so I'll take that as a given.

The other product that has made a noticeable difference to me is Vitamin C serum in the mornings. I use other skincare products but the Vitamin C is the only one that I've really noticed having an effect. The rest e.g my milky toner and night cream I just use because they're nice and hopefully 70 year old me will be glad I did!

Which one do you use?

quirkychick · 24/04/2026 09:33

I'm mid-50s and was recently asked by some friends in their 40s what my skincare regime is. I agree retinol and spf/staying out of the sun.

Currently, I oil cleanse with almond oil, add rosehip oil and spf. At night similar, but with ordinary retinol and moisturiser. I tend to favour simple, natural products and routines. I have used Weleda skin food, Neal's Yard rose moisturiser, Gallinée moisturiser and currently using a Holistic Heritage Tallow balm - all good on my menopausal skin.

Petrine · 24/04/2026 09:38

Nivea in the blue tin. I’ve used it my entire adult life on face and body.
