Gave done the majority of my switch today. Goodbye jumpers and thermals and hello summer dresses.

Everything stays rammed and
crushed in my wardrobe all year long!

Same

SailingYachty · 19/04/2026 21:09

Definitely still too cold for me! I made the mistake of not wearing a jacket today, big mistake!

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2026 21:11

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 19/04/2026 21:07

Where do you live to get 33 C? Marbella or something?

No, but I guess the point is that I hardly ever go out without a jacket. I will need it by the evening.

Pinkgin00 · 19/04/2026 21:14

Yes I did mine on Saturday , I have always done this. My wardrobe looks less cluttered and I haven't got the luxury of storage in my house. All the big thick jumpers and winter coats have gone up in the loft this weekend, and I have brought down the shorts and summer dresses. Things like t shirts and jeans stay in my wardrobe all year round.

Placestogo · 19/04/2026 21:18

I did during easter, i even got an alteration done already on one of my summer dress! Cant wait to wear it.
i also put lots of stuff on vinted and made a bag for charity. Quite cathartic to say the least!
i have two dresses (one winter and one summer) that are waiting for a quick sewing job.

Empress13 · 19/04/2026 21:20

Yep done mine but I do still need more wardrobe space !

FairViewRosie25 · 19/04/2026 21:23

Had shorts on but had to add a hoodie as it’s freezing here

Silverbirchleaf · 19/04/2026 21:24

Just about finished. Winter jumpers, long sleeve tops, winter coats, thermals etc go up in the loft Always surprises me how many bin bags I fill between dh and I. Summer dresses, summer jackets, vest tops, summer jumpers and shorts comedown. Jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sports gear, work clothes stay down all year around.

…and love that discovery of forgotten items, and having a whole ‘new’ wardrobe to wear.

What you have to do if you don't have a ginormous wardrobe. I've actually got quite a large wardrobe, but the other season's clothes still have to be in suitcases for half the year.

Oh I don’t really have seasonable clothes. I have a box of summer holiday clothes that come out once a year and a lot of other things get worn year round just with different layers. Also, it’s still April and bloody freezing!!

Justbreathagain · 20/04/2026 08:26

Yes i did it over the weekend. I also got rid of some clothes and managed to sell 8 items on vinted quids in bonus !

Celiathebanshee · 20/04/2026 08:39

Ooh no, not warm enough yet. It’s usually mid-May for me. Although I’d feel overdressed in boots now

MuggyBonehead · 20/04/2026 08:48

Not yet... ne'er cast a clout, till May be out

Screamingabdabz · 20/04/2026 09:06

Yep I’m another vote for it being too early. There is still a nip in the air and not quite bare legs weather yet.

That summer holiday box is your seasonal wardrobe I suppose.

In the winter (and spring and autumn) I wear thick socks, thermal and lined leggings and boots, big jumpers and my polo necks. These would look really silly in the summer.

In the summer I range from clothes that are still quite warm, jeans, denim dress, thinner black opaque tights (yes, summer still requires tights!) in the cooler days to sundresses, sandals, etc. in the hot days.

I could obviously not wear sandals when it's 0 degrees or my boots when it's 25.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/04/2026 12:49

you see I don't even own a sundress or pair of sandals @Gwenhwyfar !

clary · 21/04/2026 12:53

Well ladies as I drove along this morning I saw lots of may (hawthorn) out (in beautiful bloom) so please feel free to cast a clout (set aside your big coat and your gloves!)

I think the may is being a bit premature, myself! It is out here, too, but there is still a real bite to the wind. I'm going to give it a bit longer before I cast any clouts (although I have put my gloves away)

toddlermom1 · 19/04/2026 16:59

Can anyone recommend good quality vacuum bags for seasonal clothes?

I use Amazon Basics or IKEA. And Acana moth traps and Rentokil moth 'balls'. These 'balls' look like wrapped sweets, so if you have children, perhaps choose something else.

Ireolu · 21/04/2026 20:06

Daily clothes stay in wardrobe all year round.
I layer a fair amount, tank tops for layering in the winter months become summer tops.
Long jacket wool/cashmere jacket was put away in Feb
Shorter wool jacket is still in use on occasion will probably be put away in the coming weeks.
Cropped leather jacket and boxy denim jacket are out now for the warmer days.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/04/2026 20:51

" (although I have put my gloves away)"

I had my gloves on this morning with about 7 degrees walking to work.
Then by the afternoon I was sweating in all my layers, but that's April.

justasking111 · 21/04/2026 21:01

Cold Easterly wind too cold for dresses and sandals still.

I do need to cull but had second hip replacement five weeks ago so not risking doing anything that might cause issues.

TheChicDreamer · 21/04/2026 21:01

I didn’t know this was a thing until a friend said something once about doing it. My other friends who were part of the conversation and I all looked at each other with bemusement!
I’ve never met anyone else in RL who does.

I’ve got plenty of space between a large chest of drawers and the lion’s share of a walk in cupboard plus I clear out my clothes quite regularly so I’ve never felt the need for it. I simply don’t have enough clothes! 😆

BrennieGirl · 21/04/2026 22:19

I did mine today. It’s a job I hate though. I have far too many summer clothes and have to squash them onto the rail. I did manage to get rid of a few bits today.
I still think it’s a bit too early but I’m going to Spain in a couple of weeks so they needed to come out.

quirkychick · Today 18:12

I used to do this twice yearly, but really do it more with each season/gradually depending on the weather. So, my deep winter clothes are away, but I've still got plenty of warm layers for cooler days. It was very cold at about 9am this morning, but hot a couple of hours later.

I have some storage boxes at the top of the wardrobe - I used to use vacuum bags from Lakeland, but found they were not very durable and still had moths.

henlake7 · Today 20:26

Still too early for me (although I saw two girls today in short shorts and vest tops which completely baffled me)...meanwhile I'm still in vest, t shirt, flannel and cardie!

Although I will probably wash and put away all my heavy duty winter bits this week like puffer coats and Oodies, etc.
