Beauty chat - freebies/gifts with purchase/offers THREAD FOURTEEN

OvaHere · 19/04/2026 09:03

Time for a new thread, our first in a MN Community Group. We've chatted and purchased beauty bargains so much we've become a literal tribe! 😂

In other news PLouise was out of the gate with ridiculous speed announcing the first advent calendar waitlist in April.

In celebration I thought I'd try out a poll. It runs for 7 days, there was only 6 options so comment in the thread for those that come under 'Other'.

As always, welcome back long standing beauty bargain hunters and hi to anyone new who would like to join. Usual caveats about the threads being bad for you wallet still apply, but enjoy anyway. 🤗

Hello - lurker, joining (to be enabled)
I have used chat gpt to go through my heaving bathroom cupboard to discard anything that isn't helpful towards my goals (boots £10 Tuesday has a lot to answer for) I've stashed anything mini for occasional travel and have committed to a medik8 heavy new regime, while working through the remaining stash from last year's liberty advent and beauty drop. I'm introducing a decent retinol after faffing around with nipfab and the ordinary for a couple of years and will be taking it slow.
I'm committed to liberty advent because beauty drop but was a bit meh at the fragrance heavy last year and am eyeing SpaceNK.
I'm lured by TikTok and have got to the point of running the contents of beauty boxes through chat gpt (I know, I can't make a decent decision on my own...) to see if it fits my goals, or whether I am being gaslit by heavy discounts (I am, I know I am) eg: cult beauty chasing the sun edit. While that has a full-size medik8 hydra8 b5, which justifies the pricetag, the rest doesn't fit in with my goals, so I am passing (for now)

Snapespeare · 21/04/2026 08:53

Arguably, what I should be doing is snapping up the boxes with the medik8 I use and then banging the rest of the box on vinted as a bundle.
Oh piss, I've enabled myself!

OvaHere · 21/04/2026 08:59

Welcome @Snapespeare I can totally relate!

@Snapespeare a lot of this resonates with me. I think you have a good plan. Welcome to the thread.

keepincool · 21/04/2026 09:19

Welcome @Snapespeare . I only joined the threads last summer via the AC thread - it's been a bumpy and expensive ride! I doubt you'll find a nicer corner of Mumsnet though 😍

user593 · 21/04/2026 09:26

I found a Kevyn Aucoin powder blush I’d forgotten I had and decided to wear it this morning (it was untouched!). I may be falling a little bit in love with powder blushes again 😅 Now my skin has improved it goes on really nicely.

OvaHere · 21/04/2026 09:44

Email from Sephora. They've got various discounts (20-30%) on Skin and Body Care inc 30% off BoJ.

Welcome @Snapespeare
As someone who loves the Medik8 B5 hydr8, I’d recommend stocking up on the edit and selling off the rest of the products that you won’t use. I tend to buy at least 2 when there’s something I really want, though I would typically use some of the other products then sell the remaining to recoup my money.

I like the idea of using ChatGPT to support your regime. I have only just started using it to help with some work documents, so still finding my feet with it

JoRaRaRa · 21/04/2026 10:14

Welcome @Snapespeare
I'm also a fan of medik8, and also buying with the justification that I'll sell the rest on (although it doesn't always work out like that 🤣).

There's a few things I like the sound of in that LF box, especially the kp stuff. It's an easy no for the Liberty gwp, why is it all the same stuff all the time?! 😔

I'd like to try the MZ mask but it's only 20ml (although that amount is still pricey) and I like the BioEffect Mask. There's 4 things I'm not bothered about at all - Sunscreen, Avene and the First Aid products.

I think I'm going to resist. I know deep down it's not a sensible purchase.

There are a few Medik8 B5's on Vinted for around £25 (non from Ofairy1 though)

I had a YSL plumping lip oil arrive today and had an allergic reaction - within seconds of putting it on my whole face swelled up! It's fine now I've washed it off but thought I'd warn others. I remember someone else having something similar but I can't remember who or what the product was. I obviously have stupidly sensitive skin, but I've never had a problem with a lip product before

That's disappointing for you. It was @IlovePond who had a reaction to a lip product from a BAC.

Beautyfox · 21/04/2026 15:33

My CB sun edit has arrived. This edit is all about the medik8 serum. If you are not interested in this then the rest of the edit really isn’t worth it as they are tiny sizes. However I love the serum so for me it was a bargain and I’m delighted.

IlovePond · 21/04/2026 18:31

Yes, it was me! That’s awful @namechange0998776554799000

I don’t have particularly sensitive skin myself, but anything mint/plumping on my lips is a no no. I’m not allergic to mint, so it’s obviously the chemical substitute I am reacting to. I wish I knew what it was 🤷‍♀️

Re: Lips - mine have been so sore for weeks - I think I had some kind of reaction to something - maybe a sleep oil. I think they are now finally getting back to normal 🤞

I hope you are ok now @namechange0998776554799000

namechange0998776554799000 · 21/04/2026 18:38

I'm fine now thanks. I've used other plumping/minty lip products with no problems, so there must be something specific in this one.

AI tells me these are the most likely allergens:

Rosin (Colophonium) Rosin (or Colophony) is a substance derived from coniferous trees. It is frequently cited as a top allergen in lip care products, often leading to delayed allergic reactions like redness or scaling.

  • Methyl Nicotinate: A vasodilator that increases blood flow, often causing a strong tingling or burning sensation.
  • Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract (Pepper Extract): Contains capsaicin, which can cause significant irritation on sensitive skin.
  • Zingiber Officinale Root Oil (Ginger Root Oil): A natural oil that provides scent but is also a potential sensitiser for some users.

I shall have to cross reference with my many other lip products! (I am not going to count them 😆)

IlovePond · 21/04/2026 18:50

Thanks @namechange0998776554799000

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 21/04/2026 18:57

hi all. I’ve missed a few threads, been working too much. Then I came on to read through and catch up a few days ago and within moments had purchased the SpaceNK bridal edit (+ that quite good hair GWP for the benefit of exam-stressed DD) and the CB sun edit. I really like the Allies SPF, so for me that helped swing it. Feel I should now be steering clear of CB for a bit though, given what some of you have experienced recently.

Quite keen to get out all my blushes and count them, but I’ve got to do some more work first tonight. 😒

This is helpful thanks.
My skin is sensitive and I sudmffer with rosacea. I have the red marks at the side if my mouth. I cant recall the correct term. Not a lot but im fair so can see it.
Says online too many actives and changing products too much. Guilty on both counts. Need to cut back of everything.
Im not counting blushes. Ive too many to count and then feel guilty. Not many full price usually from advents, gwp, edits etc so they dont count. Right? 🤣
Im debating whether now is a good time to open my typology advent as supposed to be good for sensitive skin. Not loads of ingredients. I font want to love the products too much as addicted to buying beauty. 🤣

OvaHere · 21/04/2026 19:29

Not sure if this is a new product or just new to ASOS. Banila (a k beauty brand) have some Rhode looking dupes that look interesting.

I bought one of these in Thailand. I don’t love it but I’m trying to find a way to make it work - totally different texture, kind of like a matte mousse blush but in a stick.

Thanks, sounds a bit like the Fwee pots but in a stick. I do think they look cute but I don't need one then.

They look a bit like something you'd see on Dr who or star wars 🤣

I tried to purchase the Fwee in ‘Without’ in Thailand but they were sold out. Didn’t realise they sold them here - tempted all over again now!
