Beauty chat - freebies/gifts with purchase/offers THREAD FOURTEEN

OvaHere · 19/04/2026 09:03

Time for a new thread, our first in a MN Community Group. We've chatted and purchased beauty bargains so much we've become a literal tribe! 😂

In other news PLouise was out of the gate with ridiculous speed announcing the first advent calendar waitlist in April.

In celebration I thought I'd try out a poll. It runs for 7 days, there was only 6 options so comment in the thread for those that come under 'Other'.

As always, welcome back long standing beauty bargain hunters and hi to anyone new who would like to join. Usual caveats about the threads being bad for you wallet still apply, but enjoy anyway. 🤗

Im on WLIs as well. Part of the reason I've embarked on this beauty journey is that I'm starting to get my confidence back and believe I'm worth spending time and money on. I've got a way to go yet though, I had a lovely day out in Stamford today and kept walking past SNK but couldn't quite pluck up the courage to go in as I still struggle to think I 'belong' in places like that. I feel like a bit of an imposter still. Im three stone down since I started in November though and over halfway to my goal so hopefully the confidence will come. I did pick up a couple of lovely scents in Oliver Bonas of all places, at the grand total of £13 for both so at least my lack of confidence saved me some money 😅

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 24/04/2026 19:17

@ClutteredPalace I know exactly what you mean about feeling you don't belong in SNK etc. I haven't actually been into a real life store and would definitely feel ready to sprint out of there if a sales person looked directly at me.

I wonder how many of us feel like this! Maybe we should set ourselves a challenge. I live out in the countryside so it's really unlikely I'll encounter sephora or snk in real life.

ClutteredPalace · 24/04/2026 19:25

@DidILeaveTheGasOn I'm in a small village about 40 minutes away from my nearest SNK so don't get much opportunity to practice either. I did say to my dp that part of the reason I didnt want to go in is that it was too quiet and I didnt want to be pounced on by sales assistants. I've come home to browse their website instead. I do think I need to challenge myself to go in next time.

I used to feel the same about SNK, beauty counters in John Lewis, boots etc but a few months ago I plucked up the courage to go in and I go all the time now! My tip is to go the first time with a specific idea of what you want, check online that they have it in store (you can do this easily on the SNK or JL apps), ideally something with a couple of options you want to try out. Eg my first time in SNK I wanted an HG phantom glossy balm, I had one and wanted another but couldn't decide between a few shades. I went straight to the HG counter, swatched a few, was inevitably approached by a salesperson and told them what shade I wanted. They got it out for me, I paid, all done 😁 Once I'd done it that first time I found it way easier the next time and now I love it for trying foundation shades, getting advice etc.

ClutteredPalace · 24/04/2026 19:36

Thanks for this @namechange0998776554799000, that's a really good idea. I think part of the problem today was that I just wanted to browse and didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted. I'll try going armed with a wishlist next time.

Thelifeofawife · 24/04/2026 19:41

My weight loss is also due to WLI. I really struggled to lose weight in other ways, particularly once I turned 40. I had already started to up my skincare regime but have definitely gotten more into it in the past year or so. I’m definitely finding myself spending more on skincare and make up now that I’m not buying clothes, but I’m happy with it.

@JoRaRaRa Never mind your husband, I nearly had a heart attack when you listed what you’d bought/spent 🤣
I love the idea of losing weight to fund your BACs - that’s some dedication 🙌😅

@Insuffishcakes I love how you approach the BACs, I am definitely going to give this a try! I also didn’t know that you could donate unwanted products in Boots, so I’ll be looking into that 😃

@DidILeaveTheGasOn @ClutteredPalace I know what you mean about feeling awkward in places like SNK, I was like that the first couple of times but I forced myself to go in and pretend I knew what I was talking about and soon realised it’s not how you think, well not in SNK anyway. Every store of theirs I have visited has been welcoming, the staff are so lovely and not pushy at all; they will offer assistance but if you say you’re okay or just browsing they step back and leave you to it.

I second this! I did the exact same. The first time I wanted a HG concealer, the next time I wanted a blush, and the time after I just wandered in for a look and the sales assistant offered me a mini makeover with some of the products I was interested in, I was having a rubbish day so I took her up on it. I bought one of the products and probably a week later bought a couple more things that she had used on me.
Now I go in and test a ton of fragrances and make up to decide which I want to keep from edits 😅 I just waltz around the place 😁

Thelifeofawife · 24/04/2026 19:53

On an unrelated topic, I bought a few cheap dresses from Shein to tide me over, and some other random stuff because it’s just that kind of website. Anyway, goodness knows what Evri have done with my parcel! I contacted Shein about it, got an immediate response and resolution, and they gave me 2 discount codes (30% off and 45% off) by way of an apology for my bad experience (that wasn’t even their fault)…why can’t all customer service be like this!!

If you just want to browse or find you freeze when surrounded by so many goodies then I find it’s a good idea to first head to the fragrance section and try a sample or two. Gives you time to orient yourself plus gives time for the frag to develop as you look around. The staff are not pushy so while they will ask if you want help, they go away if you say no thanks.

Oh and if you do buy something in store and you already have an Ndulge account then make sure you have the card saved to an online wallet or have a SNK email on your phone (your account barcode is at the bottom) that you can show at the till.

@BakeOffRewatch I was just looking at it. Tempted for the make up items. It's a decent price.

Thanks @BakeOffRewatch - I went to buy it, only yo remember why I haven’t bought from Jarrolds before - I signed up to their loyalty scheme but it will never give me the loyalty discount!

OvaHere · 24/04/2026 20:25

I think this is the bag included. There isn't a good pic of it with the edit but it looks nice. These type of bags are useful.

I won’t buy it if I should be able to get £5 off but can’t for whatever 🤷‍♀️

It’s £13 on John Lewis at the moment if anyone wants just the bag. It’s a good bag!

Another who can’t seem to get the Jarrolds to show with the £5 off, I am logged into my account and still showing £40.

If anyone can get it to show as £35 please can you post the link as think that is what worked last time we had this

Have you tried messaging their customer service? I don’t think their systems are that sophisticated. I placed one order and it was a few hours before I received any email about it. Which is unusual these days.

Is there a way to get free delivery with Jarrolds before I start adding more things to my basket to make it up? 😅

Also not aware of any and ending up paying the postage as they don’t have the one thing left on my wanted list which is a green Chanel eyeshadow

Thelifeofawife · 24/04/2026 21:58

I’m looking at a Charlotte Tilbury highlighter to bump it up. I don’t need it but it looks like one I will use at some point.

I should really take it as a sign to not make a purchase, but my CB ban has saved me quite a lot of money recently 😅

Another one who finds the space nk staff very laid back, have been in at least 4 branches and the same for all
