Best daily SPF

Hit me up with your best daily SPFs recommendations! I’m looking for true spfs which are ideally easy on my bank account.

I had a skin cancer removed from my face earlier this year which was a fright as I have used daily moisturiser with Spa since my early 20’s and factor 50 when on holiday. However I am fair skinned and have been sunburnt in the past. My dermatologist recently said that SPFs in moisturisers are no good as you’d need a really thick layer for them to provide true protection and I should use a specialist SPF daily. She was not able to recommend as apparently not alllowed….

The internet is saturated with products claiming to contain SPF - I just don’t know what to believe anymore! Can anyone recommend a product that I can use daily in UK over (or under) makeup and not end up looking greasy etc?

I use the heliocare AK fluid which is spf 100+ and it's had the added benefit of getting rid of a couple of seborrheic keratoses and random blemishes. It's not greasy and soaks in well I find

For everyday UK use, SPF30+ broad-spectrum is ideal. From an ingredient perspective, look for lightweight hydrating gel formulas, calming ingredients like centella, or mineral filters such as zinc oxide. Yes your dermatologist is right, SPF in moisturizers is often not enough.

I love the Caudalie Vinosun Lightweight Cream. It is exactly that. Factor 50 and no chemical nasties. I use it instead of moisturiser as it’s very light and non greasy.

Babyitscoldoutsideinmyoffice · 06/04/2026 20:09

I’ve tried them all and Beauty Of Joseon is my ride or die. Knocks spots off LRP in my humble opinion! (The usual one, not the tinted one, although that’s fine but the OG is the best)

TheGreenBow · 06/04/2026 20:45

I now only use the Beauty pie spf50 one. It works as a brilliant base for make up, doesn’t sting my eyes and does seem to protect my skin from the sun.

cannaethink · 07/04/2026 10:16

I’ve recently started using Beauty of Joseon, it’s really nice and light, and sits perfectly under make up. Haven’t had much sun to test it out on yet though! It’s 20% off in M&S at the moment.
I was using Nivea shine control for a few years which is a bit thicker but I still found it good under make up and the sun protection was excellent.

FrodoBiggins · 07/04/2026 10:23

@cannaethink thank you for the tip! Just ordered from M&S. I usually use that one as well. I have tested it out last summer in very bright south Europe sunshine (I'm reasonably pale) and it held up really well. I prefer supergoop but it's able 3x as expensive and BoJ is really good. Thanks again!

I have just switched to Nivea Sun UV Face Sensitive spf 50. It sits really well under my make up, doesn’t sting my eyes or leave a white cast. No perfume and rubs in well without leaving any tackiness. Doesn’t make me oily or cling to dry patches. No breakouts so far despite me having very sensitive skin. It has an 4 star UVA rating and also scores well on the Yuka app for ingredient safety (if you’re interested in that) and only costs £8.50. I’m a convert!

GameOfJones · 07/04/2026 10:31

L'Oréal Revitalift SPF 50 for me, you can usually get it for less than a tenner from Amazon but it's available most places. It doesn't leave me greasy and sits well under my make-up.... I'm oily skinned so most SPFs I tried in the past just made me oilier. I wear it every single day and wouldn't be without it.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 07/04/2026 10:57

has been ultra violette spf 50 for me for the last few years but I’ve recently tried the beauty of Joseon and it’s great so will swap to that. I’m using the lighter of the two

UmberMoose · 07/04/2026 10:59

Initially I was using cerave but then shifted to la roche posay and I feel it's great for my sensitive skin and it also sits well on makeups. Will share that my routine with that:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
LRP spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

fancytoes · 07/04/2026 11:51

Another vote for La Roche Posay the specific face one.

Morepositivemum · 07/04/2026 12:02

Another for le Roche posay!

Did this really do as it said on the tin, i.e. zap the seborrheic keratoses?

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 07/04/2026 13:41

Those who are recommending LRP, do you not find it stains pale clothes badly? I will not use it again because of this, so am keen on recommendations that don’t stain!

Isheacheatingbastardthen · 07/04/2026 13:46

Have a look at Altruitst

Kayemm · 07/04/2026 13:48

How often does SPF in moisturiser need reapplying?

Thanks! It's on order.

I have a slight beauty box addiction. There are usually some great summer boxes, featuring spf creams, a great chance to try some different brands at a very reasonable price. Look Fantastic / Latest in Beauty etc worth keeping an eye on.

user593 · 07/04/2026 17:39

Beauty of Joseon. I’ve tried a lot, including much more expensive ones, and this is the best.

GlasgowGal2014 · 07/04/2026 17:43

I use cerave facial moisturising lotion with SPF50 which sits really well under makeup and I carry a can of Garnier over makeup SPF 50 spray in my bag for a top-up during the day. If I'm not wearing makeup then I use one of the Nivea UV 50 SPFs, which is a bit cheaper than cerave, has a lovely holiday smell but is a bit heavy under makeup.

Hallywally · 07/04/2026 17:54

La Roche Posay factor 50 is lovely- very thin & doesn’t pill under other skin care/make up.

MrsKateColumbo · 07/04/2026 17:57

I find LRP slides off my oily skin
Beauty of joesen works perfectly

Overtherainbowandfaraway · 07/04/2026 18:01

I used Nivea Sun UV Face spf 50 for about a year, under make up it made my face a bit Dewy looking.
I've now been using beauty of Josean for about a month and love it, it's so light weight and my make up sits lovely on top of it. I have quite dry skin, mid 30s and relatively pale. I was concerned it might not be moisterising enough as it's quite thin but it's brilliant.
