Best daily SPF

Hit me up with your best daily SPFs recommendations! I’m looking for true spfs which are ideally easy on my bank account.

I had a skin cancer removed from my face earlier this year which was a fright as I have used daily moisturiser with Spa since my early 20’s and factor 50 when on holiday. However I am fair skinned and have been sunburnt in the past. My dermatologist recently said that SPFs in moisturisers are no good as you’d need a really thick layer for them to provide true protection and I should use a specialist SPF daily. She was not able to recommend as apparently not alllowed….

The internet is saturated with products claiming to contain SPF - I just don’t know what to believe anymore! Can anyone recommend a product that I can use daily in UK over (or under) makeup and not end up looking greasy etc?

LRP or Nivea Face Sensitive factor 50.

livinginanightmare89 · 07/04/2026 18:08

I use Clarins sun stick - you can put it on over make up and it doesn't smudge at all. Smells lovely too

Lndnmummy · 07/04/2026 18:09

I only use tinted ones as I cant be asked with lots of different layers. I use ultrasun tinted, ultraviolette, and supergoop or whatever its called. My skin is pretty good so it means I can just put on said spf with no need for moisturiser spft and foundation. I just cleanse and put tinted spf on. Done

Beauty of Joseon. I use the ‘aqua light’ one in summer and it’s lovely.

I’ve tried them all and Beauty Of Joseon is my ride or die. Knocks spots off LRP in my humble opinion! (The usual one, not the tinted one, although that’s fine but the OG is the best)

It's the only one I have ever been able to tolerate .

Hi OP. Your derma is right. SPF in moisturizers usually isn’t enough. Look for SPF 30 or 50+ broad spectrum (UVA + UVB), and with a texture you’ll actually wear daily (this matters more than brand actually!). You can apply SPF as your Last skincare step before makeup. Also, always remember Consistency is the most important. Hope this helps!

Can I jump on and ask if anyone is at all bothered by "blue light" UV radiation? A friend who is a beauty therapist is convinced we need to wear spf with blue light protection every day working from home, I tried a Nicea one which claimed to offer this protection but it only comes in spf50. I'm olive skinned anyway, tan really well, so although I need some spf I find spf50 here in Scotland really ends up stopping my melanin activating normally and I look like I'm a ghost - i go "too" pale (for me) and look as if I'm ill.

I like the P20 sensitive face one as it lasts 10 hours.

Greenwriter76 · 07/04/2026 20:56

Please can I ask everyone using this, how much do you apply and how often?
I’ve been using this for a few months, but the last couple of days after a couple or few hours in the warm sun my face has burnt. I feel it hasn’t really been tested until now with the nicer weather.
I was therefore thinking of switching to Garnier or Nivea as have had success with those in the past.

Huckleberries · 07/04/2026 20:57

I was chatting to some friends this weekendabout SPF in the winter

None of them uses it and they were all really surprised to hear theory about absorbing UVA if you sit next to a window which is something I read on here and obviously confirmed looking

I'm debating using an SPF moisturiser now the sun is out

I'm okay to use it in winter if it helps with anti-aging but otherwise I worry about clogging pores and so on

I might try the L'Oreal one mentioned

@LouScot do you mean blue light from your computer

Me too! I love the feel of it and it doesn’t break me out but I just don’t get the sun protection at all I’m so sad! Reapply it less than every few hours, more than when I have normal sun cream on anyway.

I tried harharu spf 50 after deciding i like the feel of Korean skin cream but that felt so different- heavy, greasy and stung my eyes; and also the Same poor protection with noticeable redness within an hour of being out in UV 7-8.

I’ve just bought the cerave stick for around my eyes two days ago which has been good so far no eye stinging or tightness and it’s been 25 degrees with strong UV but not sure of exact number today as didn’t check.

i also recently tried hello Sunday spf 50 serum ( I got given for free so not so bad) which feels terrible but does soak in after a few minutes and doesn’t break me out but again not long lasting spf. It is also hard to get a good amount in the drip stick to apply.

looking forward to seeing more suggestions for op

Which Beauty of Joseon are you buying? On M&S there's a stick and a lotion

user593 · 07/04/2026 23:39

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe This one - https://www.boots.com/beauty-of-joseon-relief-sun--rice-and-probiotics-50ml-10348088

I recently bought the BoJ SPF (with the blue lid), I love it but I had the same worry of will it actually work in proper sunshine? I actually googled how it can possibly be effective when it's so different to 'normal' sun cream and the answer I got was that Korean skincare is just so advanced they've figured out how to give effective protection while still feeling like skincare. I didn't find people complaining of getting burnt through it, which is why I went ahead and bought. But I've only tested it in the winter and given there are two people on this thread saying they've burnt through it I am feeling much more wary now!

user593 · 08/04/2026 07:38

@namechange0998776554799000 I’ve been using the BoJ (not the blue lid though, the other one) in full sun in Thailand for 10 days and I’ve not burnt 👍 I reapply every few hours though.

Sorry, yes, that’s the one I meant! No idea why the Boots link didn’t work but I’m on holiday so maybe that has something to do with it.

Slimtoddy · 08/04/2026 14:24

I really like the Beauty Of Joseon one but have tried other Korean ones and like them too. I am very pale. I also tend to use a bb cream which also has an SPF on top of the sunscreen. Belt and braces. I also almost always wear a hat and sunglasses. I think hats are excellent for protecting your face and to my mind look stylish.
