pyjamas vs nightdresses

dogsarebetterthanppl · 21/03/2026 04:26

hello, i've recently rediscovered nightdresses after years of wearing pyjamas (always nightdresses before that, and through insomnia induced boredom wondered what people tended to wear as the only other die hard nightdress fan i know is my gran. so, pyjamas or nightdresses and reasons why pleaseGrin

reasons:

  1. feels lovely after a leg wax
  2. i feel they look better
  3. i have health issues which often give me bowel/bladder pain and the lack of waistband somewhat helps
  4. pyjamas feel - imo - quite generic and i've always been one to go against the grain lol

nightdresses - just above knee length - dislike my legs being covered.

i use cyberjammies shirt style

SouthernNights59 · 21/03/2026 04:51

I wear nightdresses (like oversized tees) in summer as I would get too hot in pjs, but I wear pjs (well, a top and leggings) in winter as it keeps me warmer.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/03/2026 05:24

I like both. Pyjamas in winter and the thinnest antique silk ones in summer so I can float about

PragmaticIsh · 21/03/2026 05:28

Neither.

thistimelastweek · 21/03/2026 05:28

A cotton t-shirt to which I add pj bottoms in the depths of winter.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 21/03/2026 06:31

I hate pyjamas with a passion- prefer a nightie. I find with pyjamas I wake up feeling twisted in my clothes and like I’m getting a wedgie.

But I’m also a dress over pants person for the same reason.

StarlightLady · 21/03/2026 06:33

Limited voting options.

Unless l’m on heavy period (in which case it’s knickers), I always sleep naked. I hate the feeling of wearing anything in bed.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 21/03/2026 06:37

Nightshirt nightdress for me though I have pyjamas. I do have shorts style pyjamas to wear in summer.

These in all the colours

Moveyourbleedingarse · 21/03/2026 06:43

Fitted cotton vest and pj style jogging bottoms. Cannot bear wearing un cuffed. Can't abide anything riding up my body or twisting around in the night. No buttons. No ties.

I slept in a bamboo camisole style short nightie after surgery. It was helpful and also looked like a summer dress for when I needed to go for a walk when I got home during a heatwave!

But wouldn't wear it long term. I have to be covered in bed. Pants, and also socks in the winter.

pinkpony88 · 21/03/2026 07:06

Neither! They get all wrapped around me when I turn over and make me panic! If it’s very, very cold I might wear fluffy socks. That’s it 😉

OvernightBloats · 21/03/2026 07:07

Nighties always. I tried pyjamas and hated how the trousers became twisted in bed and tight around the crotch. My legs became far too hot as well.

Some nighties look so nice that they can pass as summer dresses. I sometimes wear one in the house in summer without being embarrassed if I have to answer the door wearing it!

Has to be cotton and I am not keen on the ones with childish motifs or sayings on them. I like them plain. George at Asda have done some really nice ones in the past. Also Sainsburys and John Lewis.

wendywoopywoo222 · 21/03/2026 07:10

Neither for me. Like to be completely unrestricted.

binnibonnieboo · 21/03/2026 08:09

Just a t shirt. Nighties ride up. Pyjamas are to much. So nothing on my bottom half.

Prophecy · 21/03/2026 08:19

I've just bought a nightdress from m&s and definitely felt like my nana 😂 but they are much more comfy. Pyjamas always ride up my bum or get twisted or I find they are the wrong length to what I want. I feel so free in a nightdress!

OnlyYellowRoses · 21/03/2026 08:28

I tend to wear tight soft legging type PJ trousers and either oversized T shirt or vest top in winter. Silky mid thigh length nightie in summer.

Weeelokthen · 21/03/2026 09:08

If you mean, for sleeping in. Nothing. Sleeping in clothes is just weird to me, so restrictive.
Wandering abour the hoose, pjs

BauhausOfEliott · 21/03/2026 09:40

I either sleep naked, or in knickers and a non-wired bra.

Pyjamas for lounging.

Wickedlittledancer · 21/03/2026 09:47

Gosh I’ve not worn a nightie since I was a child and not worn a nightshirt since the 90s.

i wear a silk camo and shorts, cool, comfy, not restrictive.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/03/2026 09:56

Depends on the temperature. At the moment I've still got the very thick winter duvet so I can get away with shorts or a nightdress (more of the long t-shirt type). When I change to summer duvet I may have cold legs for a bit so back to pjs like the middle of winter.

I wasn't sure what to vote...

Gwenhwyfar · 21/03/2026 09:58

Galliano · 21/03/2026 06:38

And for anyone who doesn't want to spend almost 80 quid on something so basic, I recommend the long T-shirts in Primark.

DelphiniumBlue · 21/03/2026 17:10

Cotton jersey nightdresses for me, preferably around knee length and lowish neck line as I seem to have a very hot neck and decolletage! In summer I'll go sleeveless or strappy, in winter short sleeved. Then a cardigan over the top if I'm sitting up reading in bed.
PJs are much to hot around my legs, although I can see the attraction for lounging around.

2chocolateoranges · 21/03/2026 17:11

Pyjamas are a must for me, nightdresses just end up at my neck with all the tossing and turning I do!

luckylavender · 21/03/2026 17:25

Nightdresses. PJs get all bunched up & I’m never sure whether to wear kickers or not and I have a large chest which looks worse in PJs.

MidnightMeltdown · 21/03/2026 17:35

Pyjamas. I find nightdresses too uncomfortable. They ride up in the night and end up in a bunch around my middle.
