pyjamas vs nightdresses

dogsarebetterthanppl · 21/03/2026 04:26

hello, i've recently rediscovered nightdresses after years of wearing pyjamas (always nightdresses before that, and through insomnia induced boredom wondered what people tended to wear as the only other die hard nightdress fan i know is my gran. so, pyjamas or nightdresses and reasons why pleaseGrin

reasons:

  1. feels lovely after a leg wax
  2. i feel they look better
  3. i have health issues which often give me bowel/bladder pain and the lack of waistband somewhat helps
  4. pyjamas feel - imo - quite generic and i've always been one to go against the grain lol

Can't stand pyjamas - all that material flapping round my legs is uncomfortable. I used to like nightshirts but you don't see them often now. I just wear a t-shirt and knickers as can't stand my legs and feet covered up, and if it is really cold I wear my jogging bottoms to keep warm.

PJs. Well, PJ bottoms with a T shirt top. Nightdresses tangle when I turn over and I find myself rotating within my clothing.

EEHHH · 21/03/2026 17:51

Pj bottoms and a t-shirt or t-shirt and boxers.
Never know when i have to get up and go.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 21/03/2026 17:52

Both, I find them as comfortable as each other. Pyjamas if I put them on in advance of bedtime though, for lounging around in.

hahabahbag · 21/03/2026 17:53

Neither! Don’t like clothes in bed

henlake7 · 21/03/2026 18:53

Pajamas.
Boyfriend style in the winter and shorts/vest style in the summer.
I do have a couple of big t shirt nighties but I rarely wear them, I hate my thighs rubbing together (reminds me of when I was much bigger).

And for anyone who doesn't want to spend almost 80 quid on something so basic, I recommend the long T-shirts in Primark.

I can feel a panic attack coming on just thinking about sleeping in that! Doesn’t it trap you every time you turn over? 😟

It's not me who sleeps in it. I would imagine it doesn't though because long night shirts usually just ride up in bed.

SuzieYellow · 21/03/2026 23:06

Night dress always. I hate a pyjama waistband, they always get twisted when you move from one side to the other

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/03/2026 23:07

I wear a nightshirt - an oversized cotton jersey t-shirt type one, usually from M&S. Always knickers and cosy socks too, I get such cold feet! I have pyjama trousers I wear for knocking about the house after work but change for bed.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 21/03/2026 23:41

Pyjamas for lounging around but always change into jersey shorts and vest for sleeping, I hate being hot in bed! Quite curious about a nightie though now considering how many of you like them.

puppyparent · 21/03/2026 23:53

Never understood the nightdress thing. They always ride up around my waist at night leaving me bare bottomed.

give me some long jersey PJ bottoms and and oversized tee please.

Shinyhappyapple · 22/03/2026 00:02

Always pyjamas, and always with long legs. I hate the feel of my legs rubbing together. I have different weights and top styles depending on temperature.

Claradubh · 22/03/2026 00:05

Nightdress all the way. Used to be pyjamas but as I get older, I feel I need to have more air about me down there. 😂

JustGiveMeReason · 22/03/2026 00:11

You need another option in your poll, for nightshirts / oversized t-shirts

mondaytosunday · 22/03/2026 02:05

I wear nightdresses - if you csll
an oversized long t shirt type thing a nightdress! I don’t want anything between my legs (don’t get why some people wear knickers) nor at my waist. However it does make it awkward if having to answer the door as I did today for a delivery - jammies would feel more ‘dressed’ I think. My son wears those flannel checked jammie bottoms and just throws a hoodie on and goes out to the shops.

Nat6999 · 22/03/2026 02:20

I wear a cropped top style bra & cycle shorts style bottoms to stop my sweaty thighs sticking together, if it is really cold I wear a pj's top as well, I don't like the whole of my legs being covered.

LunaTheCat · 22/03/2026 04:35

I wear nighties around hone at night but take them off whilst in. Ed.. I can’t stand clothes wrapping around me!

SemmaLina · 22/03/2026 07:40

I like a strappy nightie ( that’s what I’d know it as , anyway )
My recent best buy
Matalan call it a floral chemise ( and it’s only £12 , soft and comfy )

RampantIvy · 22/03/2026 07:43

My legs get too hot in pyjamas. Also, the legs are never long enough. Nighties for me as I'm too cold naked.

Steelworks · 22/03/2026 07:51

I wear both.

Ninerainbows · 22/03/2026 08:00

I wear short pyjamas from Chelsea Peers until I actually get in bed and then the bottoms have to come off. Ever since being pregnant I can't sleep in a waistband.

If I'm feeling fancy I like a Bravissimo nightie.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/03/2026 08:13

After decades of wearing XL tshirts to bed, I have perfected the “jump turn” to stop them twisting around me.
It annoys DH so much!

Whatineed · 22/03/2026 08:15

Pyjama sets with shorts here. I've got some lovely ones from B by Ted Baker on the Next Website. I like to wear them round the house with an adult DS so a nightie just doesn't feel right for me.

Peachmarmalade · 22/03/2026 08:15

I cannot stand nightdresses - they just remind me of when I was a teenager and worked for a bit in a nursing home. They are the bed wear of choice for people over 65. Nothing wrong with being over 65 of course but I don't wish to look much older than I am
