I’ve fallen in love with a Givenchy dress…

PomegranateVase · 10/03/2026 08:49

Help me find one that’s as close in style as possible.

Ideally no more than £150 (the Givenchy one is £1500).

It could be black or navy.
It could be mini or midi length.

Thank you!

I could say it was internalised misogyny to want to present yourself as a sex object. I don't know if people think that's an extreme idea but you could certainly make a case for it.

You surely could intellectualize every item of clothing men and women have ever draped over themselves, conduct a full historical analysis, and reflect on the social, cultural, and economical conditions that produced each.

Or you could save that for a PhD, just wear what you like to wear, and actually manage to leave the house.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 11/03/2026 14:49

@InterIgnisyes and this is why I don't believe my views are misogynistic. It's a question of taste..

TheyreJustNormalCheeses · 11/03/2026 15:04

I hope you feel suitably chastened OP for trying to wear something that isn’t a shapeless, ankle-length sack. How dare you.

On a more serious note I second Vinted and hope you manage to find something. The dress is great and could look incredible.

It's ridiculous to suggest dresses that leave little to the imagination must be 'shapeless ankle length sacks' You just need to walk behind certain groups of women on a Friday night out wearing cut out dresses & skirts barely covering their bottoms & breasts out to see the extent of bad taste around. My niece 19 is stunning in every way & knows how to look sexy & attractive without going out for the evening semi naked. Some of the dupe dresses depicted here would certainly raise eyebrows & not in a good way.

Oh @Mistybluebay give it a rest, please!
I don't think you've realised this is S&B, not AIBU.
OP didn't ask for anyone's opinions on the dress, she asked for suggestions for a cheaper version.
Do you do this IRL? Barge into a conversation and go on about a different subject?

As much as they deny, it definitely IS jealousy. Of youth, of an amazing figure, of looking good.

I remember there was a thread a while back. OP was young and looked like a blooming supermodel. She really did. Not in that fake MN way, where a middle-aged woman size 16 is told how 'amazing' she looks and what a 'tiny waist' she has. No, the woman in question was young, tall, size 8, hourglass, legs for days, gorgeous. And she was wearing a red bodycon dress, midi length, just slightly booby, but not all-out. For a special occasion. She looked fantastic.

You won't believe the comments she got. Tacky, cheap, dated, desperate, try-hard, crying-laughing emojis, suggestions for Phase8, Hobbs and Toast-tents, the lot. She looked like Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street, just dark-haired. It WAS jealousy, 100%.

Incidentally, I'm myself very tall, size 6/8 an hourglass, an ex-model (back in the day). Want to know the single group of people who called me 'skin and bones', 'told me to eat a burger', etc? Hint: it's not slim women, it's not young women (whatever their figure), it's not any kind of figure men.

I never underestimate the effect jealousy has on women given I myself have been a victim to the point I avoid tables in restaurants where women of my age & younger glare at me. Its nothing to do with youth. It's all to do with your peer group & how they react towards you at any given stage of life. I love to mix with beautiful young women. It usually means they are less bitchy towards naturally pretty women regardless of age. Its also a lot to do with the face as much as the height & figure. The young woman you describe sounds very beautiful as I'm sure you are too.

I'm sorry to share this but Im sick of posters being accused of being jealous because they state they dislike certain styles. It's simply a matter of taste & how you like to present yourself, beautiful or not.

I never knew it was against the rules to defend yourself when you check in & find your getting accused of something your not & simply because you don't like a dress.

Something I've noticed since joining is like the playground there are posters who love to gang up on people.

DairyMilkFreeZone · 11/03/2026 18:13

Gosh I can't work out whether you have absolutely no self awareness, you're just plain rude or you're just on a wind up.

Nice stealth boasting there. I don’t personally agree with the criticism of this dress and why people want to wear it. Women should be able to wear what they want. However I also do not agree with telling people WHAT their feelings are. I’m getting bloody sick of the jealousy line being spouted just because someone expresses a different opinion. You have the right to believe what you want. You do NOT have the right to TELL someone why they have that opinion. You are not inside their head.

That's not a dress, it's a structural engineering project

If it is it's very much a work in progress...

Women can wear whatever they like! Legs or boobs is such old fashioned bullshit and designed to keep women in their box. Fashion is supposed to be fun!
Some of these comments reek of jealously and insecurity, once again, the OP didn’t ask for comments on the dress, she asked for a dupe!

It's really not old-fashioned bullshit to say 'legs or boobs' - it's about style and overall effect. Same with 'lips or eyes' where make-up is concerned, otherwise people end up looking like clowns!

That’s the point.

It’s taken mid-century Givenchy structuring and reconstructed it. It’s still a lot of tailoring.

Yes i agree- it seems acceptable to go out nowadays dressed in things that used to be reserved for the bedroom, swimming pool or beach! 🤦‍♀️

If someone has a great figure then good for them, by all means show it off, but there are ways of accentuating and appreciating that without exposing private parts!

Wow stunning dress!

I haven’t seen any dupes of it but Odd Muse is probably the best place to look for structured dresses. Also look at Nadine Merabi but they can be pricey! And maybe Oh Polly and Club L for the cheaper end.

Thank you for this - I’ll definitely have a look.

Nadine Merabi have some very architectural / structured dresses, and their sales are good
