What spring/summer tops do you wear with jeans if you have a bit of a spare tyre!?

Short sleeves or 3/4 suit me well and I like tops that are round/scoop neck and are made from material that hangs nicely (which ‘normal’ t-shirts don’t seem to! They just cling to my fat bits 😂). I have some (Next/F+F) that are a linen mix/broderie anglais or sort of fine knit on the front and then a cotton back which are nice. I have a nice viscose top and another that’s polyester and cotton which hangs great-from boobs and doesn’t cling anywhere else on the way down!

If you are a similar shape-quite big boobs but a bit of podge around the middle-what tops have you bought recently that looks nice?! Any recommendations would be brilliant!

My 3 buys for Spring are all v necks, so may not be for you, but all flattering over a tummy and all have that t-shirt back that you like - the John Lewis one looks better with the sleeves pulled up to 3/4 length

A plain cotton t-shirt with sleeves, usual fitting. Not tight nor baggy. So you can wear any bra underneath it.

Then add a strappy a-line camisole top which flares and drapes. Light poplin cotton or silky/satin fabrics are ideal. Not a clingy/stretchy fabric. The cami can be in a toning or contrasting colour/print.

It flatters because it breaks up the (fuller) bustline, like a v-neck. But with zero potential cleavage! And it glides flatteringly over the stomach area.

The attached shows a Next white tee and silky chocolate cami set, £30 for both. But you'll probably already have a white tee. The second pic is a cream cami at £20.

(Edited for missing full stop.)

I am a similar shape to you by the sound of it. I just got this top from Next today and I think it’s quite flattering!

Seasalt ‘sailor’ tops. I’ve got at least half a dozen.

I have some tee shirts from Ralph Lauren that are cotton, but a thick and silky feeling cotton, with a scoop neck. They seem to hang “just right” over the spare tyre, skimming rather than clinging, and giving you a slimmer silhouette. They last for years and still look like new.

I agree with this approach. When I was the same shape you describe, I quickly realised that everything that was designed to 'disguise' my middle just emphasised it. The loose/floaty stuff just hung off my boobs, making me look bigger and very top-heavy.

A better cut, neater silhouette and good fabrics were WAY more flattering. I think its worth having basic tee shirts tailored to sit just at the right hip height etc.

I use loose fitting cami's and a thin crochet cardigan over them, where the holes let in the breeze in the summer. Or longline tops a size too big as I hate clinging. Mine's not so much the belly but the hips, I have one noticeably bigger than the other so I can't wear anything fitted, has to skim over.

There is a 20% discount code for Jigsaw at the moment, so it brings the t shirts down to £28 - I know this because I’ve just ordered a brown and a navy one to go with my old white and black ones!

Overtheatlantic · 08/03/2026 02:43

I just bought the red but considering the brown as well.

minnowonthesay · 08/03/2026 05:41

I think the brown will be a great buy for Summer @Overtheatlantic
I’mgoing to wear mine with white jeans/linens and brown sandals
I’ve also got cream barrel leg joggers and brown trainers to wear it with now and a brown fleece
My third outfit which I can wear now is my mid denim ankle grazer jeans, brown suede boots and my light taupe broderie anglais edged jacket from H & M last year

What’s the code? There’s a T-shirt on there that I’d like, but it’s £69 which is a bit steep.

Whitestuff elodie v neck top. They are a light knitted linen, so not clingy

That jacket is fabulous. I wish I had seen it before.

These Uniqlo linen tees are great.
Also Rapanui relaxed fit tees.
I also wear linen shirts open over vest tops.

Uniqlo do some great linen shirts in a style that they call skipper collar, which I find really flattering - they're fairly loose around the front. I've got a couple and they wear really well. www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E483872-000/00?colorDisplayCode=72&sizeDisplayCode=003

I have these in nearly every colour to hide the big boobs. Look so good with jeans!

These are nice, but shuddering at the ironing!

I dread the summer with the ironing! T shirts just cling though 😭

Have a look at Seasalt - I've now got their Appletree top in 6 different colours/patterns as I find it so flattering (and I've got more than just a "bit of a spare tyre" !!)
They hide my belly and also wash really well 😀

I’ve just ordered these!

Tunic tops cover the belly and the bottom

Fiftyand · 08/03/2026 22:36

Lovephil · 06/03/2026 09:59

Don’t they get really crumpled if you’ve been wearing a seatbelt or even just leaning back in a chair? Linen clothes look so lovely on the hangers but whenever I buy any they always look awful after I’ve had them on for half an hour.j

I’ve got one of these t-shirts and it doesn’t crease at all. Looks great on and can be dressed up or down.

Beesandhoney123 · 08/03/2026 22:42

Anything that's supposed to disguise like the balloon hem or peplum just makes me look even bigger. And the empire line tops make me look more pregnant that when I was actually pregnant.

I wear mid rise baggy jeans or cargos and the reiss tops mentioned by pp. They are long enough to skim but not tunics. Very thin linen cotton mix pull over tops with 3/4 sleeves from St tropez are good too.

MarchWindsAnd · 08/03/2026 22:57

I have several Seasalt Appletree tops, in fact I’m wearing one at the moment. They seem to bring them out season after season in different fabrics. Some of them come with below-the-elbow length sleeves. I have one in tunic length but I wear it less because it’s in a plain fabric so needs ironing.

On their EBay outlet there are three patterns with longer sleeves listed at £9.99 with free postage, but size 8 is currently the only one left.
