What spring/summer tops do you wear with jeans if you have a bit of a spare tyre!?

Short sleeves or 3/4 suit me well and I like tops that are round/scoop neck and are made from material that hangs nicely (which ‘normal’ t-shirts don’t seem to! They just cling to my fat bits 😂). I have some (Next/F+F) that are a linen mix/broderie anglais or sort of fine knit on the front and then a cotton back which are nice. I have a nice viscose top and another that’s polyester and cotton which hangs great-from boobs and doesn’t cling anywhere else on the way down!

If you are a similar shape-quite big boobs but a bit of podge around the middle-what tops have you bought recently that looks nice?! Any recommendations would be brilliant!

@Shinyandnew1 peplum shaped is your friend, look here for ideas 😊

TurnipsAndParsnips · 06/03/2026 05:23

I have some tee shirts from Ralph Lauren that are cotton, but a thick and silky feeling cotton, with a scoop neck. They seem to hang “just right” over the spare tyre, skimming rather than clinging, and giving you a slimmer silhouette. They last for years and still look like new.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 06/03/2026 05:48

Have you tried balloon hem style?

I have two broderie anglaise cotton blouses that are short and fairly generously cut, one Next and one John Lewis. The standard cheap Next T shirts are quite loose and don't cling unless you buy them too small.

Shinyandnew1 · 06/03/2026 08:56

Thank you.

I have tried both balloon hem and peplum and they make me look worse! I think it’s about the fabric. I will have a look in John Lewis. Broderie anglaise works well, so maybe a stiffer sort of fabric?!

I have a lot of shirts and blouses in cotton and linen. More relaxed, floaty, cool. You need to spend £ though to get nice ones. White Co linen tshirt are nice and relaxed fit. Crew clothing linen shirts. I get the v necks due to big boobs too.

I recently bought T-shirts from Boden, very tight fit with square necks. Very flattering because they are double layered and hold you in. So complete opposite of the floaty aesthetic.

Peplum, balloon, round necks, synthetic fabrics all a big no, no.

Linen shirts with a vest top or a scoop neck t shirt is.my uniform.in warmer weather.

Nothungrycat · 06/03/2026 09:48

Uniqlo do some great linen shirts in a style that they call skipper collar, which I find really flattering - they're fairly loose around the front. I've got a couple and they wear really well. www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E483872-000/00?colorDisplayCode=72&sizeDisplayCode=003

Don’t they get really crumpled if you’ve been wearing a seatbelt or even just leaning back in a chair? Linen clothes look so lovely on the hangers but whenever I buy any they always look awful after I’ve had them on for half an hour.j

YetAnotherAlias62 · 06/03/2026 10:24

Have a look at Seasalt - I've now got their Appletree top in 6 different colours/patterns as I find it so flattering (and I've got more than just a "bit of a spare tyre" !!)
They hide my belly and also wash really well 😀

I've decided to embrace the crumple and make it part of my overall casual-yet- stylish summer look (I may be deluded of course..)

Next have got some heavier t-shirts in both long and short sleeve that I find really flattering - https://www.next.co.uk/style/su383578/668828 and https://www.next.co.uk/style/su314890/v28517

I tend to like a vest top with a linen or cotton shirt worn open over it

or embroidered or broderie ‘popover’ type tops - boho stuff

The flowy kind. V neck!

I love that shape, but I need more length in the arms - I have bat wing arms, so I like to be covered to the elbow or close to it. Do you happen to know of any similar tops, lightweight, but with more arm coverage?

Sorry no, I overheat all the time so only wear very short sleeves or no sleeves 🙄

Ducksbehindthesofa · 06/03/2026 17:23

Size 20/22 here with a big bust and enough rolls to challenge the Michelin man. I've got three of these tops - they are just lovely, no clinging, soft linen mix, airy and a little longer than they look in the picture. I had the scenic print, ecru/orange map print and white. Thinking of ordering a black one too now!

This is flattering. www.next.co.uk/style/su885068/g05677

Also next do cap sleeve t shirts that I find a nice non-clingy material and neckline is slightly wider than a round neck.

damelza · 06/03/2026 18:00

I usually size up for T shirts now. I also have a lovely roly poly bit. I cannot stand anything fitted to skin, I just keep either pulling it down or adjusting it. And yes I know sometimes the shoulders aren't perfect when sizing up, but depending on the type of top, it often doesn't matter!

This is my go to. Have the top few buttons undone to make a v (good for big boobs) and show the vest top… I don’t have big boobs but I think it could work as well. You could try cinching in with a belt. I do that some of the time as I think it makes me look slimmer and still covers the tummy. Belts are ‘in’ atm, apparently sales are up because so many people are on weight loss drugs.

Tiedbutchorestodo · 07/03/2026 08:26

Always V neck as I find higher or rounder necks makes big boobs look bigger / a bit matronly

I’ve always found Hush v neck t-shirts good for this kind of cut. They’re flattering on my meno belly.
