Why do they do this? Branding

I absolutely love these shoes. Hate the visible branding. I find it so annoying

But I didn't ask if people like them or not. I like them (other than the branding). I dgaf if others do or not.

So I'm not insulted. Just perplexed as to what people get out of coming onto a thread, to not answer the question, but apparently for the sole purpose of being rude about someone else's taste.

If my op had been, what do people think of these? Then, yes, I think they're horrible is a perfectly legitimate answer. But I didn't. So it's just egregious unpleasantness.

You didn’t ask anything at all

you made a statement

if that statement wasn’t inviting comment then it was a fairly pointless post

Title of the post: Why do they do this? Branding

It's S&B. They're all fairly pointless posts. Doesn't mean people need to be rude.

And now, I'm up too late. Night all.

The OP did ask a question. The thread is titled

Why do they do this?

Are you saying it was a rhetorical question? Even if it was, a rhetorical question is intended to make a point or provoke discussion.

My answer, I don't know. Presumably some people are happy to be walking advertisements and I'd be interested to know why. I wouldn't buy anything with obvious branding.

Obeseandashamed · 28/02/2026 01:24

FWIW, I’ve always found anything with gold foiling tends to fade after a while so if you love them, get them and wait for the foil to rub off as it usually does eventually! I have a saint laurent tote that the gold rubbed off on not that long ago.

I think they’re horrible- but you wouldn’t see the name once your feet are in them.

Personally I just find branding on clothes to be tacky. I really don’t mind a small discreet logo, I’m wearing Levi’s jeans today and they have a small red tab on the back pocket which if you had Levi’s you know that they said Levi’s and if you’d never seen jeans by that brand before you’d struggle to read them and identify where they’re from. They also have a badge thing on the waistband but because I’m wearing a belt you can’t see it.
Anything with large font with the brand name on is a no no for me.
trainers are a bit different for me, I will wear branded trainers but my trousers often cover most of them anyway!

same - odd about the trainers really but I’m buying for comfort and it seems unavoidable as I don’t wear anything else on my feet.

To me fashion seems restrictive and frustrating unless you a very particular height and shape.

I buy things based on comfort and whether its the style I need.
If it’s suitable and good quality then it’s worth the cost to me whether it’s the £2.50 primark t shirts I like that , or the stupidly expensive trainers that are incredibly comfortable that I can only get in one shop.

I thoroughly approve of dupes as long as they make the buyer happy.

somuchbedding · 28/02/2026 06:48

If you post about a piece of clothing on style and beauty it’s to be expected that people will share their opinion on that item of clothing.

I disagree, if someone asks for an opinion of an item then by all means give an opinion but the OP didn’t.

@oneoneone you made the mistake of posting on a Friday afternoon!

It just seems kind of pointless and unpleasant to bother typing out a post to offer an unasked for opinion for the sole purpose of shitting on someone else's taste. But ok.

It's a pair of shoes, not your newborn baby.

To be fair, the pp did (having not seen the little logo on the front) comment on the issue of the branding. So saying the shoes weren't to her taste wasn't her sole purpose, just an aside.

Personally, thong footwear makes my toes feel violated and Prada is light-years out of my price range, but I agree with you that visible branding is a scourge on society. Why on earth do people want to look like walking advertisements? Ironically, it just seems cheap.

It's pretty rare for everyone on a thread to stick to answering the question in the original post . People are just chatting a lot of the time, saying what comes to mind. Saw the shoes, didn't like them, and said so.
I don't like branding either BTW, it can spoil the look of an attractive item.

Edited

Whether the title was intended rhetorically is irrelevant; the thread has treated it as such, given that as far as I can see no one answered it before you.

Discussions drift. OPs court validation. Expecting strict adherence only to the original prompt, or complaining about posts that are not sufficiently affirmative suggests a misunderstanding of how forums operate and leads to a rather dull echo chamber.

somuchbedding · 28/02/2026 10:21

It’s a style & beauty board not bloody politics 🙄.

It’s like the threads where someone asks “which designer bag shall I buy” & there is a raft of responses along the lines of “I don’t use bags” or “I could never spend more than £50 on a bag”. Such positive & helpful
discourse!

WestEaste · 28/02/2026 10:21

To be honest, even the front logo is not going to be that visible when on?

UpAndDownAllTheTime · 28/02/2026 13:16

WestEaste · 28/02/2026 10:21

To be honest, even the front logo is not going to be that visible when on?

But it's visible to everybody else.

It's to do with insecurity, imo. People feel "safe" that they've spent money on a thing when there's a logo on it. They know who they are, and they want other people to know that they've spent the money. "Quiet luxury" is not for them.

ETA: And to actually answer the OP's question! [faints in shock] The brands do it because people want to buy the logo. They need the validation.
